Just for future reference, and to try and save you some grief later on, you should probobly have posted that in a new thread. Anytime you want to start a new topic you should do it in a new thread. Otherwise you are hijacking someone elses thread, which normally isn\'t recieved well.

Traditional for Black Isle games, yes. BG, BG exp, BG 2, BG 2 exp, IWD, IWD exp, NWN, NWN exp 1 and 2, and all other of such games they made are pretty much D&D on computer. However dicerolling isn\'t D&D, it\'s used in all pen and paper RPGs, no matter which ruleset you use, and it\'ll be used in PS in some form or another. You will not necessarily have any part in rolling the dies, but they will be rolled anyhow, whether you want it or not. It\'s a part of the game mechanics.

Yes, things will be random... that is until we discover the creation of the universe... and then we will be able to predict the future! mwahahahaha

@icebr4kr : o.O

I think keeping the /roll command is a good idea, since using that, a player could invent a \"mini-game\" on their own and publish the ruleset... Wouldn\'t it be nice to have someone challenge you to a game of whatever and you could say \"Hey, I wrote the rules for that game!\"
It would also be nice if there were traditional playing cards (2-10 jack, queen, king, ace). Perhaps these and the dice could (at some later date, of course) be animated objects in the planeshift world. Ehehe, imagine what shuffling would be like...
Uh, oh.. this is tending slightly off-topic :P

There will be randomising, sure. This is what the dice are meant to represent, but of course they can\'t do this perfectly. That is why there are so many different dice around: to be able to get better greanularity. A Computer can easily randomise on odd numbers, whereas a 7 sided die will be hard to create IRL.

Amyway, the idea for player-created games is cool. However, how is that supposed to be implemented?
IMO, the player would need to code the rules in some sort of scripting language, and then submit it to the PS library of games. A potential player can then select from this library (or a subcategory). It would be nice if the games are only accessible if you have heared of them and been told the rules at least once (or read them).

The scripting language might be a deterrent for non-programmers, therefore, a simple alternative could be implemented. It would have some options and edit boxes, but of course you\'d probably not be able to implement the most flexible of system. poker and tic tac toe are somewhat dissimilar...

That\'s why I thought we\'d first only have a deck of cards and some dice (plus score card, could make yahtzee (IIRC they have it in Germany as well, called something like Kniffel (sp?)) but that could just be my overstuffed brain again) having to download graphics from the server (f.i. tic-tac-toe pieces) would be a royal pain in the patootie. The programming language is adding more structure to it (for the better, of course) than what I originally meant. I meant that even right now, here in MB, people could us ethe dice-roll feature and create rules around that to make a mini-game.. of course this makes it easier to create variations, but you have to actually know the rules (and remember them o.o)... This could be combined with a book-publishing job to publish rule manuals (more like pamphlets) that cost, say 2-3 tria and enable a choice on the games menu when in a tavern....

Sudden brainfart: These could also be used to settle disputes non-lethally... Whoever wins the game of Tavarisolitaire (Yes, Tavaris is my character...) gets the deed to the land... Wait, solitaire is a single-player game... nevermind...

Ya know, I kep seeing people say this, and apparently they haven\'t been to as many gaming cons as I have. http://shop.store.yahoo.com/gsonline/7sideddice.html
*edit- tried to put an image in and it didn\'t work*

Notice how the sides are different shapes, yet the same surface area = same probablity.

Well, the devs are working on some stuff I beleive. Acraig was talking about flags in the FPS sense, something that can be taged. And decks of cards as well as dice, but they were looking for suggestions for more simple things. As for a scripting language... let me just say \"player run quests\" and let you drool on that for a while :D

Oh, and as for games arleady being done, has everyone forgotten draklars combat system already? Ok, so it wasn\'t that detailed, and gave bonuses to older players, but it\'s something.
