I got Muted
« on: June 28, 2004, 09:35:43 pm »
I was muted today and I am a bit offended. I have been playing for 4 days now, I have never asked a single question, I read the forums and all the newb guides, so I wouldn\'t pester anyone in-game about it. Today I\'m on for a few hours, and I make my first comment, along the lines of \"If would have been nice if the crystal spawns were random places, the only people who seem to get crystals are those who were here since the start and they just go from spawn point, to spawn point\" that was it, I was done talking, I understand it\'s in beta, I wasn\'t trying to bich, it\'s free, I love it. I just wished in the 4 days playing I could have at least found a 1 point crystal, lol. THEN some loudmouth Krixie or something close starts jumping on me in shouts and cussing at me in tells. I try to defend myself, i reply 2 times, then BAM Cad mutes me. Without a warning, an explanation, or anything. And this krixie guy keeps bashing me for like 30 minutes after I\'m muted, and harassing me in tells, and I can\'t tell this Cad person a damn thing cause I\'m mute. COMPLETELY ruined my fun I was having, I\'ve never ended a gaming session ANYWHERE because of the fact I was so pissed off, until today. Before everyone pops out and start giving me crap, if you don\'t care thats fine, I\'m not asking you to. I just hope maybe in the future admin. will at least talk to someone before punishing them. This is a classic case of admin. taking an older players side over a new persons point of view without question. I\'ll still be around (Unless Cad or someone feels me posting my thoughts warrants me getting kicked out, which at this point wouldnt suprise me) Sucks something this petty can ruin a whole day, I was having a great time playing and exploring.

As for why I posted this: The game is in testing, and I thought the issue of admins. being a little more thoughtful about the potential full-time players was worth talking about. Maybe having an admin. who is nothing but character relations would be worthwhile, they would have time to talk to people and see whats going on, intead of having to just make quick decisions, so they can get back to work. And no, it is not my hopes to piss off admin. talking about this, and I think reading the words I was unable to say in-game explain my intents are sincere. Thanks for your time.

First off Kixie is a known ass so dont worry \'bout that (and as a fellow admin id be more likely to take your side over his ;P =)
However it sounds to me like your \'replys\' will have been cussing or in shout mode (both?) which is why you will have been muted...
However just so you know, to speak again just log out and log back in and normal mute will be taken off =)

(If Kixie bothers you in the future take a screenshot of it and a copy of the log =)

And Cad does an all round great job as Gm , being very active and generally fair all round.

Perchance you replied with /shout rather than /tell?

And I don\'t think Cad would have taken Kixie\'s side since kixie isn\'t liked much by anyone...

Have (hopefuly more than today) fun!

I guess I was mainly upset because he was still harassing me and cussing me out in tells, even after I was muted, and i couldn\'t do anything or explain myself to Cad. I will deffinatly start using print screen now though, thanks for the suggestion. And I think maybe I let slip a shout or 2, in which case yeah I understand, because I wasn\'t backing down from him, and I was vocal. I will admit though, I didn\'t think what I said was bad at all compared to some shouting I\'ve seen, and deffinatly it was nothing compared to his tells to me. But whatever..I use F1 now, so I don\'t see his harassments, and I will never ask a single question or make a comment about anything in-game ever again. Unless it\'s comeone friendly, or needs help that I can provide.

These GMs were put in because we trust them, if you got muted by one of them! It was rightfully done so, no if, ands or buts! You will do your time for your crime :D

Like lambs to the slaughter, huh?

Yookie, you should download Aineko\'s mod. It logs the chat, and it got an ignore feature (among the other things). Both the logging and ignoring could be useful in your situation.

For the record, how Yookie is having fun.

[21:10:39] Yookie shouts: i have yet to find a single crystal
[21:10:43] Kixie shouts: good for yuo
[21:11:03] Yookie shouts: i think people have the spawns memorized and just go back and forth to them
[21:11:18] Kixie shouts: yeah... thats kind of the point
[21:11:49] Kixie shouts: is there some other way to do it? or is that wrong to do yookie?
[21:11:59] Gwythenek shouts: Any points of interest in this town?
[21:12:28] Kixie shouts: library, taver, dungeon, temple, gazeebo, brown towers
[21:12:42] Yookie shouts: should make it random sppawns in random places, the only people who get crystals are those who were here then the game first started and know where they are
[21:13:05] Yookie shouts: beta though, so whatever
[21:13:29] Yookie shouts: been looking for 4 days though and cant even find a 1 point crystal, grr
[21:13:31] Kixie shouts: um yookie you do know that the sytem you described is almost impossible with out crippling lag right?
[21:13:53] Kixie shouts: just STFU. you dont know what your talking about and your making my brain hurt with your noobish questions
[21:14:54] Yookie shouts: fuc k yo, you little prick, I was just commenting about something, I was done talking about it 5 minutes ago, moron
[21:15:08] Kixie shouts: no just shut up, go away
[21:16:05] Yookie shouts: how can it be a happy place when people bicth at you for asking a question, and making a simple comment
[21:16:26] Kixie shouts: because you need to stop being such a noob and ask people nicely or check the dang forums
[21:16:48] Yookie shouts: I was having a good time till Mr. Stick-up-his-ass started being a pain

Sorry to have put an end to it, but since nobody complained about your silence, I think no real harm was done ;)

Yookie, I admit Kixie is a real pain sometimes, and I\'m certainly don\'t take side, but he\'s making efforts to improve and is spending time helping people, instead of complaining. That\'s something to encourage, whereas behaving like you isn\'t. Listening to your whining for a while has probably made him lose his patience ;)

If someone bothers you, you talk to a GM, or you ignore the person. But using such a language will not be tolerated.

lol, that\'s the way!! :D You tell that kixie where to go!!

I\'m hoping that cb will have an optional language filter, so that people who don\'t care about swearing (me) can do so, and recieve, and those who don\'t, don\'t have to.

For mb, if you wanna tell someone where to go (or to Alt+F4;)), do it through pm\'s :D

Personally I would\'ve warned him once first before muting him, especially since his behavour was provoked, not spontaneous. Kixie/Whemy would\'ve got a harsh word also.

lol, yes. Cad does forget about warning people. :) Although I suppose being muted is a warning before being kicked which is a warning before being banned. ;)

I remember that one, Xordan  :)

Making fun of newbies and misleading them is not something that can be accepted, unfortunately, even if it sounds fun to you. If I had taken the time to warn you etc.., the poor guy would have been misleaded enough to format his hard disk by then  ;)

Just kidding of course, you reacted quite well and maybe in your case a warning would have been enough.

And about warnings, I was the first to promote this way of handling things. But my experience since then says that it serves no purpose, people in such cases are so upset they don\'t pay attention to them (especially when they\'re new). Moogie, you said exactly the same not long ago ;)

Maybe a visual effect should be added to the warning to emphasize it ?

In any case, given this kind of language I don\'t even bother anymore, a /mute is not the end of the world, it only takes a reload. That\'s something everyone of us is used to do a few times in a game session anyway.

Here there was visibly another part of the conversation in PMs between the both of them, and I was busy with something else at the same time - GMs haven\'t signed any contract to do this 100% of their time, they try their utmost to help people and calm down the situation, but they also are regular players. Muting Yookie seemed enough to calm down the situation, which was done.

Don\'t be fooled. I\'m not spending what little is left of my time posting this to try and justify the way I moderate, I don\'t care a bit of what offenders think of me once they have been punished. But I think it\'s important for them to realise why they have been punished, and for everyone to know there are GMs who are not kidding about what they are doing.

Amen. You did what you were there for, that is, laying down the law. And you went out of your way to clarify the reason you did so... I award you uhm, errm, a WhiteThing (tm)

(Hmm, Why did I post this... Perhaps I\'m subconciously trying to suck up to the bigwigs... :P Or am I trying to get my name at the top of \"Posts from the last 24 hrs? xD)

How in Gods name was that provoked? I would have told you where to stick it Yookie especially after your

[21:16:48] Yookie shouts: I was having a good time till Mr. Stick-up-his-ass started being a pain

speech!

Notice how Kixie only told you to shut up or stfu! Kinda holding back on calling you things i think! You surely went right on the offensive if anything you provoked Kixie , but looks like there was some self control on Kixies behalf unless this wasn\'t the end of the conversation!

If kixie/whelmy is trying to change ways, let it be done in peace and don\'t bring past events to judge in the future!
