Running the demo at different res.
« on: May 04, 2002, 02:22:22 pm »
Hi,
I would like to explain some of the parameters that you can change manually in the demo configuration.

If you look in the PlaneShift dir you will find a psclient.cfg.

Be sure to make a copy of it before making any changes.

In that file you can find some useful entries:

Video.ScreenWidth = 1024
Video.ScreenHeight = 768

You can change that to run the game at different res. Any number is allowed there, but if you are having speed problems I suggest you:

Video.ScreenWidth = 800
Video.ScreenHeight = 600

or:

Video.ScreenWidth = 640
Video.ScreenHeight = 480

Another useful option is:

Video.FullScreen = yes

You can set it to:

Video.FullScreen = no

to run the game in a window.

After making the changes to the file, save it and launch PS again.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the tip, that has helped speed things up a lot.

Now I have to get rid of all the freezes, and stop falling through the floor ;)

Something else a bit odd - when I close down the demo, my system resources keep being used up until finally it goes insane and tells me it can\'t even open Explorer due to insuffient memory - ah well I need to upgrade anyway, seems like the perfect time now :)

I am having that problem also. When I close the game, I try to open IE and I dont get that \"not enough memory\" thingy but it just wont open, comes up with a white screen and doesnt even say its \"downloading from site\" \"opening blah blah blah\" or whatever, at the bottom when you open IE. I have to restart my comp to get it to work again...
I dont seem to fall through the floor though, it seems more like up in the clouds the way the screen, looks really freaky.

Use your backup copy that you hopefully did Tigger, or you could extract the psclient from the downloaded zip file...

What I did is download the latest crystal space
binary and loading the world (roads35.zip) in the
walktest application. There I have my framerate.
I only had to change some texture references in
roads35.zip/world (removed the single quotes
around the texture file names)

Are you running Windows XP or 2k because windows ME and below had very bad memory managers that dont always dump the memory which is why its almost imposible to run Win98 for more then 2 days.
