SOME MAJOR IMPROOVEMENTS!!!!!
« on: July 10, 2004, 03:45:32 am »
ok first off iv play quite a bit of mmorpgs before and i no wut most ppl want

1.we should have a battle arena that you can just walk i to (no fancy registering for a one on one match or anything)

2.we should have a teleportation system (as the maps get bigger moving from a to b will be harder)

3.there should be bubbles ove someones head when the chat so you dont have to look at the main a nd chat screen at once

4.the way that you create a guild should be made so you can do it on the screen and not have to type everyting

5.most of the things you can do (commands and stuff) should be made so you dont have to type them

6.THE NPC SYSTEM MUST BE MADE EASYER (there anre people i know who cant do a quest because they cant say EXACTLY what they need to to the npc

this is all i have for now but i will have more

It is easier to hate than it is to love.

1. Already done.
2. Convince Paxx and you\'ll most likely have me convinced as well. Until then - no.
3. No. The chat works the way it works. No need to recode it just to suit some people\'s needs.
4. Already done.
5. No. This is a MMORPG crossbreeded with a MUD kind of thing. It will be impossible to have buttons for everything. First of all, they would take several screens, and second of all, it\'s a waste to do buttons when time can be spent on things like coding and making new maps.
6. Already done.

1. i think it would be cool to have like a main tournament when you have to do some fancy registering and a sub quest to qualify yourself to figth in the tournament against other players, this tournament will be held min one season or so, It would improve RP and increase the fun.

2. i would hate teleportation in a mmorpg but ways to move faster would be cool, since PS have two creatures that you can ride (fly).

3. that\'s too runescapy

4. troublesome  ;)

5. it wouldnt be that hard to make sub menus that is compact like the start menu on windows for some important things that isnt that chat involved.

6. how about fans making npc scripts and quest? will the tools be more \"fanny\" and more \"out there\".

Nooooooooooooooo! PLEASE no teleporting!!! Every MMORPG has that... and it suuuucks. It ruins the feeling of the game. Lets not be like all those other crappy MMORPGs with teleporting, PLEASE.

The main issue with teleporting is that it makes the world \"shrink\"... Sort of like modern transportation systems make you think \"Oh, Publix is 5 minutes away in the car...\" and then it takes 15 or 20 minutes when you go on foot. It just distorts the scale of the world and teleporting will make exploring all the \"interesting\" places (with quests and NPCs) take only a few days of play, and after that you will be overly impatient for more stuff to be added to the world... Plus, the work of the people who make the terrain in between point A and point B will be effectively wasted but for the few newbies who trek across it, lacking the smarts/money to use the teleportation system.

Summary: Teleporting is bad

Also, about the chat bubbles... You realize that mmorpg means Massively multiplayer role playing game. Imagine with hundreds of people in a market place, making it impossible to see at eye level. Even not being able to see at waist level if there are some particularly conversational dwarves around! :P

Summary: Chat bubbles are excess clutter and simply not practical in a Massively Multiplayer RPG.

About the \"Buttons for everything\" approach:
If I recall in the cvs there is an option to bind commands to \"programmable buttons\" (Haven\'t actually ad time to compile yet, but I gather as much from some of the XML files and the code comments) Or, maybe I\'m wrong and thats the keys.xml keybindings o.o

It isn\'t necessary really. And think what would happen \"I can win a battle by clicking buttons 1, 5, 6, and 2 in sequence! They are all bound to my leet spell of death.... But why does it say \"l4zyL4/\\/\\3r slaps the trepor around with a large trout before it casts t3h sp3ll? I will work more on my m4cr0s loool\" \"

Teleporting is alright if it is limited...if you are in one place and your trying to go to another place but its so bloodie far the teleport could bring you closer but not to the exact place so you would still have to go aways. Also if it was made that you had to do all these quests and had to be a certain lvl that was so high and you could only do it with one class then it wouldn\'t be so common for people to be able to teleport!

Yeah... I guess that would work. I think there should be a possibility of your teleport spell going awry and you end up in the middle of a lake or you get split in half (teleport to two places at once, facilitang a trip through the death realm :P)

Teleporting really isn\'t needed though. It makes the apparent size of the world shink like a piece of clothing in the washer :P

i am okey to allow teleporting only in one case
-the world became so big than it takes more than 40 minutes to go from one place to an other one
-teleporting must be done by somone who have already been there
-it takes like 10 minutes to cast
-you are not being teleported exacly where you want
-can only be casted by powerfull peoples (like a character being played since 6 months by a powergamer )
-the guy have almost no mana left when he finished casting

in a short i want it to be hazardous , expensive , rare

this said i think grono is right about everything but command line , with customizable shorcuts/macro , it possible to assign a command to a box and put it an a bar ( the way most serious mmorpgs does ), it have not to be done exacly the sae way in PS, but it s possible, and i think it will be done (check with a dev).
I did finaly found a work :))

Sorta, maybe 5 mins will suffice, however.

Make this depend on teleport skill level

Encouraging PG, are we?

ehm, so if you have 500 mana it\'ll cost 470, and if you have 3000 mana it\'ll cost 2970 for the exact same thing? I\'d prefer it to cost per distance travelled, so you can TP from one end to the other, or from surface to hydlaa with 10000 mana, but with 500 you can go from hydlaa level 8 to somewhere reasonylby far away but not _that_ far away.

One must definitely think thrice before deciding to TP.

Are you talking about any actions you can perform on an object? If yes, NWN did this by implementing richtclick-menus with submenus. Don\'t cascade _too_ deeply, though! :)
If the player char does something (like yawn), you simply rightclick on the player-char, like any other object. Same system everywhere, very intuitive and therefore good.
