The dev channel on freenode is much nicer, but its not for you fans. Only us geeks exchanging witty banter whilst the devs work hard coding/testing :D.

I agree, it\'s called the public developer channel for a reason.

[rant]Ignore, it probably doesn\'t interest anyone in the slightest, just blowing off some steam. :)

In the past I have always personally prefered the developer channel to chat and generally hang out.

My reasons for this is quite simple really. The \"fan channel\" in Quakenet has a very large number of visitors every day. Half of these (or near enough half) would consist of people who I don\'t know, who are just visiting, or who are simply put: too darn serious about things.

I have nothing against people like Grakrim or Draklar who have a much more stern, \'upright\' behavour, as I can be like this myself sometimes also. But at least with Draklar, he knows when to let his hair down. He knows how to have fun. :) I think everyone needs to be able to do this sometimes, otherwise they\'re just plain boring.

But what about a more serious case... what about Axsyrus? I\'m afraid I have never, not on any single occasion, seen Axsyrus with a sense of humour. He can be nice. He can be civil. Helpful. Polite. But by Aliathi I have never seen that guy have fun. It saddens me that he seems to never break his boundaries... he never steps out of line... rules to him are like a cage and he doesn\'t even try to break out sometimes. Axsyrus is a hampster.

:P

So, combining those two things, you have a place where I just really wouldn\'t ever want to go.

And I have another reason now. If I were to join the channel again, I would be banned by Axsyrus. Why? ...you really want to know?

Because I joined the channel and then left. Twice by accident. Apparently this is bannable behavour.

One thing I can\'t really say much about is Tepsu, because I hardly know him. But at least with Axsyrus, well... is there anyone who can honestly say, in light of these truths, they want this fubar to continue to have any kind of power? :P

Wow, I\'m serious?  Thank you for bringing this to my attention.  I\'ve always considered myself a bit too silly and funloving, but hey, I suppose you know me best, right? ... Mustn\'t forget the emoticon :P

Axsyrus is the best OP I could ask for, personally. He keeps order in the channel, while not being so restrictive as to prevent any OT chat from occuring; in the ideal ratio for such a fan channel, as well.  As far as Axsyrus having no sense of humor, that\'s the most blatently false thing I\'ve ever heard.  Furthermore, you\'re in no posistion to make such a claim, considering you have never spent more than a few hours in #planeshift on QuakeNet as far as I can recall (or as far as I can find greping my logs, none).

Personally, can anyone with eyes unclouded truthfully say they want Seperot to have any kind of power?  Sure, he\'s a good friend of mine. But not the sort of friend that I would entrust much more than a ham sandwich to...

I wouldn\'t want to see Sep as an op there either. In all honesty, I wouldn\'t say \"oh yeah he\'d be great\" just because he\'s my bf. :P

Anyways, my opinions on Ax are from the dev channel mostly, and copypastes/remote assistance viewing of the fan channel. My opinion of you is based on the few times we\'ve met. You were by far the clearest example I could think of though... maybe I just met you on a bad day every time...?

But ya, it was a rant like I said. :P

If Grakrim and Axsyrus were so serious, how the hell  would they stand one second of me?  Seriously Mogura, have you ever tried talking to them?  I couldn\'t even think of a reply for a long while because it just made no sense, at all.

Come to think of it since this was brought up, I have never once seen you have fun, only mentioning it, that must make you serious as well...right?

Anyways, have fun in your channel...I don\'t see why it\'s worthy of such a commotion.  The post could have worked without attacking Axsyrus as an op.

Mogura: Your opinion of Axsyrus is biased. You\'ve seen him in the Dev channel, where he berated you about \"witty banter\" when the channel is supposed to be for the development of PS. If you haven\'t got anything un-codelike to say, don\'t.  Also, the copy and pastes would probably have been people trying to make fun of him, certainly biased again.

Axsy was my mentor as I entered the AO and I can honestly say that yes, he does have a sense of humor. He just chooses not to express it in the Dev channel, which, let\'s face it, is against the rules.

And that\'s another thing. It sort of worries me to hear a Moderator saying that stepping out of line is such an attractive trait in a person.

Also, some people tend to have an \"upright\" behaviour when they meet someone new. As you get to know them more, they begin to loosen up.

Actually, my opinion of Axsyrus (based solely on the dev channel) is that he is very mature and makes on-topic comments. Maybe it is just the context (him being in charge?) that makes him act in ways you describe, I can\'t be sure as I don\'t frequent the QuakeNet channel.

The dev channel is moderated well the times I\'m in it. The topic always relates to development (even non-technical aspects at times). The \"witty banter\" is not people disrupting the channel, it\'s the devs joking in between coding/testing (they are quite adept at this). Sorry, but a sense of humor is certainly permitted in the dev channel (if it is not disruptive to a conversation).

Banning for joining/leaving twice by accident is not right, though.

Mogura: You definitely went too far. There is no need to call people names, we are not in pre-school. Screw the rant, whats the point in posting it? Being a moderator (that deletes flames), that makes you look like a hypocrite. Release your anger in another way. And if you want to hang-out on the dev channel, do so. Theres no need to attack others.

Is it really necessary to divide our community like this? The name of the channel doesn\'t tell me \"fan channel\" either. If there were specific inappropriate behaviors, do report them. Don\'t report a generalization without concrete evidence. And do not attack the person as it only makes yourself look bad.

That is all.

Axsy would have banned Moogie for joining and leaving the fan channel because it was clear that she didn\'t want to be there. And from what I gather, she still doesn\'t want to be there. If he banned her, he would have saved her the bother of leaving, no? ;)

I would like to make a suggestion. In #paneshift, perhaps it would be best if only people who are Devs or not in a guild have the rights to be Ops. A lot of people feel that this might cause unfair bias. This is a Dev decision and probably one which would mean time off CB. So probably this would have to happen aftger CB is released, as the Devs will see having to de-op and whatnot as a waste of time.

My opinions are highly biased, I know. Axsyrus used to be a friend, I\'ve even still got his contact on MSN. Maybe that\'s why he riles me so much these days.

It is clear, however, that the rant was uncalled for and uneeded. It could\'ve been worded with alot more maturity. It was rather long at first, talking more about the size of the fan chan to begin with, so perhaps removing that made the rest of the post seem harsher and unfair.

Therefore I apologise to Axsyrus and Grakrim for their mentions in the rant and to anyone else who feels offended by it. It\'s not often I feel the need to \"attack\" people, and even then, it is more out of a feeling of sadness than hate. That the situation has come to this saddens me.

I\'m sorry.

Don\'t think any more really needs to be said. Maybe locking would be a good idea?

And:

Yah maybe it is time to end this bickering, normal threads like this would have been closed before a second post, but since important community people are so k33n to speak out it lasted longer :P
