Guide for contributors?
« on: July 17, 2004, 10:23:37 am »
I\'m new to Planeshift (2 days!) but I\'m keen to help out with (simple) 3d contributions.  (I\'m posting this in newbie help because these questions have probably already been answered :( )

I\'ve checked out Laanx\' Wheel of Wishes already.  I do, however, have some questions about contributing.  Is there already a guide out that answers the following:

1) What scale should 3d objects be contributed at?
2)  Must all objects be texturemapped, or will materials suffice (where appropriate)?
3)  Is transparency/translucency supported?  If so, is it just for texture alpha-maps or also for materials?
4)  Should/Must all meshes be completely triangulated/quadrangulated before submitting?
5)  Where/how should contributions be submitted? I\'ve already created a LWW account... (ignore this question!)

I sincerely apologise if the answers to these questions are already available, but I have had a good look for them.  And I didn\'t want to email Orogor or blueCommand because they probably get emails like this all too often.

Thanks,
Kastirin

Edit:  Ooops, I seem to have discovered how to submit meshes, but my other questions are still applicable =)

I\'m not sure I can answer any of those questions, however you are always free to visit #PlaneShift on irc.freenode.net - The devs hideout on IRC. They will most likely be able to answer whatever questions you have, just don\'t expect them to accept any of your work until after the upcoming release.

As a note to everyone else who reads this post, don\'t go there and ask when CB is out. They wont answer (we\'ve tried already). They wont share development secrets and they wont tell you how to complete quests (we\'ve tried both of those too). :)

Anyway, I hope you\'ll be able to get your questions answered. I know they\'re lacking a few people in the graphics department compared to coding.

Thanks for the information.  Looks like I\'ll have to consult the gods on this one ;)  It\'s only technical information I really need, I\'m more interested in working on 3d than playing Molecular Blue at this point.  And if they aren\'t taking anything until after CB is released, oh well, I\'ll have a nice little stash of objects by then, maybe they\'ll even use some of it :)
