about the website
« on: July 19, 2004, 04:01:45 pm »
Hi everybody !

I\'ve sent a mail, but having no answers, and considering you could be quite occupied at the moment, i fuigured i should also try the forums.

I was asking if i could be of any help with the website and some in-game interface design.

I can send back this mail ( that was much longer, providing the links and motivation you request ) if you think it\'s appropriate

My latest online game :

http://www.twokingdoms.com

( i did all the design, artwork, plus a major part on the coding )

Screenshots of the next upcoming game :

I understand if the position is already filled,

Please, let me know,

Regards

Lux

Hi lux! Nice to see fellow fk-ers here, small world? ;)

If anyone should get in the team it\'d be you. The fact that you\'ve got great artistic skill AND have applied them to games has got to be a good head start.

You might be better enquiring in the IRC dev channel:

irc.freenode.net #planeshift

( think that\'s it, I\'ve never used irc ?( ). Good luck with the application mate. Hope to see you around!

P.S. Everyone should check out 2K... one of the biggest/best flash games ever made! OK, enough pimping...

Hope you guys will be interested !

Thanks for any comment that can come,

Lux

IRC is the greatest way to reach us.
Otherwise you should perhaps consider a PM to Talad (That\'s Luca, project manager)
Email perhaps, I dunno if he has the time to read them though.

But i would suggest getting XChat and go to #planeshift on irc.freenode.net and talk to him there

----------------------
Sorry to do a long message, but i assume the more information the better, so here is the copy of the mail i sent to \"bboonneett\"

-------------------------------
Why do i want to join ?

As you might have seen, all the games I\'m devlopping are made in Flash : it is an excellent tool for my (poor) knowledge of coding, which means that i can understand and have a certain control on all the processes of the game creation - it is a priceless experience

though, i would really love to be commited in a less-oldschool, more up-to-date technology wise game. I am trying to expand some branches of my resume towards video-game conception, and  a 3D game is an experience that i still miss ... being involved in such a project would be great

---- How can i help you -----

Eventhough i can draw, i am not nessecerly ready to be in charge of character artwork : i could do some to help, but i\'m still feeling a bit weak, or un-original to handle this part

As an experienced, professionnal designer, i would be trilled to be in charge with any \'interface\' element in-game, as well as for the website.
So my proposition covers both the website design, and some in-game design.

--- When can i start, and Who am I ? ---

I am a French Designer, working in the industry for 7 years : i\'ve been Art Director assistant in advertising agencies such as Saatchi or RSCG, now being an Art Director for a small web agency.
I have strong skills in Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, HTML, PHP, MySQL and some Javascript - i also have a strong background in the Print industry

I am married with an american wife, that just got an Art Historian position in SCAD, Savannah (GA). So i\'m leaving my job to move to the States and try to find some job there. I will certainly take Maya/3DsMax classes at SCAD, as my wife\'s job allows me.

As i don\'t expect to find any serious job before some time, i will certainly have a lot of time on my hands for quite a while, from mid-September 2004

Let me know if you are interested by my proposition, and if you have any questions regarding my skills or anything else ...

Regards,

Luxregina, aka Cyril guichard

Hmmm...
I see I am not the only one with \"connection\" problems. *grin*
However, since my mails propable have dropped through the same roster Cyril\'s did, I\'ll just post my stuff here as well.

MMORPG: Everquest (5yrs), Asherons Call I (4 Mths), DAoC (3 Mths)

Related stuff: I\'m collecting Fantasy literature (some 600 books, including those I never got back after lending them... *sigh*)
I\'ve created 2 fully detailed fantasy, one sketchy SF universes, for my own use (Writing of stories)
I\'m currently starting to order the stuff i\'ve written over the years and trying to make a novel... well. let\'s see.
Gamemastering: I organised and mastered several 3 to 5 day RPG events of
some 20 to 35 people playing through an adventure of mine in 2 or more groups...
I had up to 4 SubGM\'s for this - great fun, especially when the groups set out against each other without ever meeting.

Short writing:
The stuff I\'ve been doing so far is all in German, so I write a short piece (very short) in English.

-------------------
\"Well...\", the old man, sitting crouched in the corner of the monastery tavern said.
Thomas waited.
Obviously the drunk had no intention to continue his sentence or answer the question.
He felt his face becoming hot.
\"Well what? Answer the question or you will answer the Abbot, drunken lout!\", Thomas shouted.

That got him a reaction. The man suddenly looked up into his eyes, which surprisingly made him step back.
\"If you want answers, boy, you\'ll better learn some politeness and patience, or someone will give you the thrashing that you deserve.\"

The man stood up and Thomas realised that he had been mistaken about some small details:
The stranger was a full head taller than he was and must have earned his money as a plough-horse, which was the only thing that could explain those shoulders.
The hilt of the longsword that became visible showed that this was not a man to be trifled with.
Grey hair or not.

He took another step back.

\"Well...\" the other looked into his eyes and started to grin broadly, obviously waiting for Thomas to continue.
Which he would not since even he recognised a baited trap when it jumped into his face.

\"...since you absolutely must know, the name is Gideon Twohands of the Sandtower people. My errands are my business and none of yours tough.\"
Thomas in this moment realized that this was a very good idea. As Brother Grindell often pointed out, it was not wise to stick one\'s nose into other
peoples businesses.
He was absolutely positive that he did not need to know what this fellow was about. Funny how that this thought had never been so obvious before...

In fact it really would be best if the Abbot decided this.

-------------------

Hmmm.
This encounter would propably lead to Gideon meeting the Abbot...
Possibly Thomas would be send along with Gideon, something like that.

However, this is a first on-the-run writing, so not very refined - there are still some (hefty) bumps in the flow of the reading.
If you want something different or an adventure from me, send word.

I\'ll try IRC - we\'ll see what happens.
;)

greetings to all
