Segfault on World load
« on: July 20, 2004, 05:23:24 am »
Gidday,

When attempting to connect to server I get the following error:

Load TYPE plugin crystalspace.mesh.object.emit
WARNING! Object \'_p_laanx_entrance2hydlaa_plaza\' is not closed!
./psclient: line 6:  3275 Segmentation fault      ./psclient-bin

The connection client gets as far as loading world, the crashes out with the above segfault.

OS: Mandrake 10 Official
Game version: molecular Blue binaries for linux (downloaded - not complied)
Client Setup: 1024x768, software rendering (tried installing crystal space without success), no sounds.

Any suggestions (that do not involve compiling from scratch)?

why all people with mandrake have a lot of problems with this game?

I thinking to change to debian distro.

Debian apparently has problems as well...

The binaries are notorious for cryptic and weird errors o.o

I suggest compiling from source (See this guide: http://www16.brinkster.com/acraig/buildmb.html)
It is a learning experience to compile from source ;)

Edit: I thought I\'d add the setup I use to run MB

source compile with aineko\'s mods (keep a \'vanilla\' opy around to run psserver :P)
Gentoo Linux (Yeah!)
CS (ugh, old) from cvs
Has worked perfectly for me except when I was tinkering and broke something :P

Yeah i know, but i try to compile form cvs, from source, and always get diferent errors, that abord the compilation and i generali I don\'t undersatnd how to arrange it. Im not a programer, im not a god (ohhhhhh ;-) Im a player hehehe

There are 21 threats talking about this error:

Load TYPE plugin crystalspace.mesh.object.emit
WARNING! Object \'_p_laanx_entrance2hydlaa_plaza\' is not closed!
./psclient: line 6: 3275 Segmentation fault ./psclient-bin

There is no official help about it?
There is no official pacth?

I search in bug tracker in forum etc etc but there is no information about a solution.
The bin distro is the best way for people like my.

What im doing wrong?

I\'m getting the exact same error as Boneyard... has anyone been able to find a solution?

I\'m running FC2
Kernel: 2.6.6-1.435.2.3
ATI Radeon Mobility 9000

Dies on \"initiating world\"

I\'m suffering from the same problems. PS only results in a SIGSEG;

Load TYPE plugin crystalspace.mesh.object.emit
WARNING! Object \'_p_laanx_entrance2hydlaa_plaza\' is not closed!
./psclient: line 6: 3275 Segmentation fault ./psclient-bin

But I\'m running Slackware 10.0 (kernel 2.6.7) and have tried both the binary release and compiled from CVS source, to no avail.

Suse 9.1: same problem
« Reply #7 on: September 30, 2004, 03:13:34 am »
Hi everybody!

Just for information: happens on SuSE 9.1 too:

----------------------------
Load TYPE plugin crystalspace.mesh.object.emit
WARNING! Object \'_p_laanx_entrance2hydlaa_plaza\' is not closed!
./psclient: line 6:  8469 Speicherzugriffsfehler  ./psclient-bin
----------------------------

... that is after deactivating OpenGL rendering, which fails with the ps binaries and nVidia drivers (the seemingly well known lib loading prob...).

Just tried things out, haven\'t gotten around to compiling from source to see if this fixes things ...

The precompiled binaries don\'t work for most people, so you are really better off compiling the sources. In case you don\'t have the link yet:

Same problem

My PS crashes with the message below on a Slackware 10.1 box. I.e. the same problems as everyone else. I shouldn\'t have to compile everything myself. I\'d like to use some software instantly wihout a lot off fuzz.

cel.persist.classic: Adding PC \'pcinventory\' to Entity \'world\'
Before LoadMapFile: time=30065
Load TYPE plugin crystalspace.mesh.object.emit
WARNING! Object \'_p_laanx_entrance2hydlaa_plaza\' is not closed!
./psclient: line 6: 31845 Segmentation fault      ./psclient-bin
