If you are a student, I hear you can get a discount on 3DsMax so it will cost you about 500$ or is that Maya? I do not know?

If you are looking for a Free Legal alternative to 3DsMax then I hear that Blender is excellent: http://www.blender3d.org/
You could also try Milkshape & Wings3D

Ack, no not free, need to pay something at least. The company that lets you download along with the serial number does it legally. Think they made some kind of deal with Adobe and Microsoft on purchasing mass amounts of users and then sell those seats to us.
Kewl gunna check out the alternatives as the Maya demo cared not for my system. I had a free one but lost the copy to it during the moving around over the years, it was a really kewl program (Ryhno beta program) on getting supper detail on models.
As for the model I was thinking of making arenas for Unreal. The external enviroment\'s I plopped huge stones onto the surface, submerged some, to give that clump look to it. Could try making randomly sized rocks and layer them onto the back side. Kinda like one layer of rocks, chunky, then smooth them onto the surface with it\'s own texture. Rocks that are small to large, rotate each upon appling. Add more layers till reaching desired density with less smoothing as you get to the last layer so you have a smooth chunky rock appearance. I do remember Dreamscape allowing you to map in such a way that you can isolate multiple textures on the same surface. Not sure if your program has a feature of such.

Morgura pinned it but I can see how it would be hard to reverse the image to it\'s original bone structure. I\'ll throw in a skeleton model of the creature today for more detail for ya. Alot of it\'s bone structure was lost when I added all the flesh and rock to it. Best thing if anything would look at a frog thats stretched out on slab (belly up) kinda like back in school when ya bout to degut it >=)

First of all, it is not finished, & I agree come to think about it, but the Hands & Leg position can be fixed later easily. As for the position of the legs, I modeled them in a position that is easily Rigged (for a bones for Cal3D), like strait or 90*Angle. It makes it much easier this way, then you can reposition the them however you please with ease such as in a squatting position. The problem legs & arms I think it that if I have them to close to the body, the bones will drag some of the vertexes(points-in-3D) with the leg or arm & distort the model of the body to an undesirable effect?

I pre-wrote this right after Mogura?s post & wasn?t able to post it till now, (no hard feelings)
Constructive criticism makes thing better!

Well, I am finishing up with the model by making the back bumpier & starting to add some plants like in the Sketch:

Yes, the plant on it?s head doesn?t look like the Sketch exactly, it sort of reminds me of Rabbit ears, but they could function like eyebrows to give him a little more character? Anyway, after improving the back & adding a little bit of plants the total Polycount now comes to 1,155tri I think I am going to have the rocks on the back as part of the texture unless we want the polycount to be going into about 3-4k tri (average Character is about 1-2k I think)? But I could make the texture this way, plus dirt. I sort of wanted it to blend into it?s environment however?

I will try & finish the model tomorrow if possible, I have never fully modeled something like this, so it is sort of a learning experience right now, how am I doing?

The computer I was using to model with crashed yesterday, I hope to fix it, I don?t think that it is gone, but I may not get it back for a while, I could always start over but I am to lazy right now?

LOL, yeah I would be too, losing mass amounts of hours in a flash sucks man. I was working on a 3D model with Anim-8-or early today, dummy me didn\'t save jack and it already hit the 7 hour mark. *cries* F\'n storm rolled in, power flashed for just 1 second, gone. Few hours not much but man I had the face all setup to be placed in a head *cries* I was looking forward to finishing the head too.

Other than that I haven\'t been here in a few days, have some hackers around Aussie Land force feeding crap on to my system, so been off the net alot. Norton didn\'t even see the viruses and trojans, so I downloaded Stinger and whamm, it killed a bunch of them. Probably will need to check the system again after this post. Bastages are getting through me hardware firewall too, think I\'ll get 2 more and daisy chain them =/

PS finish the toad Z! =) Start over if ya need to, it was looking sweet man.

I actually prefer Mcaffe
It does a better job than Norton and it has a lot of featurs I like

It is easier to hate than it is to love.
