Non-Elemental Magic
« on: August 02, 2004, 07:07:30 am »
I\'m curious what Way of Magic would non-elemental magic fall under? Shouldn\'t non-elemental magic have its own way? Like the Gray Way or something?
My name is NOT pronounced, \"Kway-per,\" it\'s pronounced \"Kye-per.\"

I don\'t quite understand what you mean by \"non-elemental\". Four of the ways relate to the four classic elements, and the the other two relate to light and dark, but there is much more to each of the ways than element. Perhaps an example spell would help?

Like the spells Ultima and Flare from Final Fantasy series. They just did damage without any regards to elemental factors.

Well, those would be red magic, as they cause destruction and damage, just for the purpose of doing damage. Plus, flare is somewhat firey.

okay what about status effects magics like silence, blind, zombie or curse.

Then what about time magics like haste, slow, and stop?

Well I know what you mean but any spell you think of will fit under atleast 1 of the magic ways
In many games there are \'non-elemental\' spells but are really just destructive forces of things like light or crushing something with your mind, but is also sometimes an easyer way of saying \'several magic classes combined\' if thats what you are refering too

They would fall under azure way I think (isnt azure mind magic?)

I\'m not 100% sure, but blind and silence would be azure way, zombie and curse sound like dark way.
The last three are fairly advanced magics- most fantasy stories don\'t even allow time manipulation. Of course, similar effects could be caused, such as \'hold\'(azure again).
Keep in mind that the six ways are just a teaching tool that talad and and laanx built to teach magic to us poor souls. Time manipuation may even be beyond their reach.

OT: Zombie? ?( never heard of that status effect before. Hope I don\'t get afflicted with it any time soon  :P

okay I was just making sure.

Syzerian, azure is either mind magic or illusionary magic, or is that the blue way?

Your Zabeal your right about time magic being advanced. Time magic usually requires a lot of energy or MP, since well because its time. It makes you wonder iif time magic is implemented in Planeshift, I wonder how long it would take to acquire it. Hell, I\'m sure they\'d probably make some kind of quest to allow such powerful magic.

It\'s indeed the Azure way that is the mind and illusionary magic, blue is water I believe.

But what do you mean with time magic? the time going by faster or slower? That means all the other players should notice it too, because there are no ways to put time in the game as a dimension, in real life it\'s already very sophisticated to understand the concept of time and it\'s still a point on which scientists argue whether it\'s possible to have loops in time or not.
But unless a game has almost unlimited amount of mirrorworlds and a huge hard disk to record everything so they can play an event again for someone that returns in time, I don\'t have a clue of how time magic can work.

well in never winter nights there\'s the spell stop time
i also played on online servers where you could use this spell without problems
it just stops everyone on your screen and you can attack and cast spells freely, when time resumes all the spells you casted just take effect

for example time stops and you cast 3 magic misiles and a fireball
when time resumes the 3 magic misiles and fireball are cast and fly to the target to do damage its a very strong spell and it would be cool to see something like that in planeshift
as for haste and slow, those spell\'s are in every game
your character just attacks 2 times faster or 2 times slower
i think time magic should belong to azure way or something

Has anyone in here played .Hack?? They can impliment time spells into Planeshift like they do in that game. You dont cast a spell and it actually effects \"time\"....

Like you can cast a haste spell on one person..and characters speed will increase for a certian period of time.

Or you can cast a slow spell and their speed will decrease, even a spell where you make time stand still, you just make time for that person stand still, as they can\'t move.

And to the person who never heard about the spell Zombie....If i\'m most mistaken (which i probably am so someone please correct me) I think it either prevents you from doing any magic until it wears off, or it prevents you from doing like...a special super attack...I think it\'s the magic one though.

hmm i tought zombie is that you are weak against curative spells like cure or heal
cause you are turned undead so you can be attacked with white magic (at least in ff its so i thinks)
not being able to cast spells is silence.
