My GC laser lens
«
on:

My lens for my gamecube got dust on it from my 5 year old cousin now I have to try like 20 times before I can play some of my games.
I would like to know what to use to clean it. I have heard that 99% alchohol and a q-tip works well but I have also heard it screws up the lens. Thanks for your help^^

Go into a shop and get it fixed if you want to get it done proffesionaly. Personaly i dont got an gamecube so i cant tell you if it works or not, I have an xbox instead.

I advise some compressed air blown
across
the lens. If you blow it straight on the lens it could force the mechanics inside down from the force of the air stream. That\'s just my suggestion if you haven\'t tried it already and it would probably be the easiest and AFAIK air can\'t screw up a lens
Not sure whether alcohol does, but I don\'t think I\'d try that...

I\'ve cleaned a few CD lenses with glasses cleaner and a glasses cleaning (towel? sheet?). Don\'t push hard, and don\'t spray onto the lense, and use at your own risk(it worked for me, but I don\'t guarantee that it will work for you).

My friend used the same method as well and it worked. Although if u want to get up close u might need to open up ur gamecube?

Compressed air is what I use on laptop cd/dvd drives where the lens is exposed... I can\'t imagine how a GC could be that much different, but then, I don\'t own one....

Glass cleaner or alcohol will both probably scratch the lens if you aren\'t very careful. My first PS2 had the same problem. I ended up taking the whole thing apart to clean it. Air wasn\'t getting rid of all the build up (the PS2 was old got it the day they came out), so I tried the glass cleaner method. It worked but only for a little while. I ended up putting some scratches on the lens and after it got dirty again I could never get it clean. Killed the PS2. Oh well I am using the case for the next computer I build. Going to make it a little media center type box.

If you\'re not 100% sure on what you are doing, have a professional look at it. It should be alot cheaper than buying a new one, unless of course you\'ll have to ship it to Japan or something.
