I sure hope that there is a limit. If there is no limit, then depending on how it is coded you will a)get a negative skill, b)crash your client, c)crash the server, or d)crash everybodies clients untill the server gets cleaned out.

I think there is a limit, but it\'s so high that it\'s impossible to reach. For example - the limit is 100 000, but you\'d have to play for a year to get 100.

It would actually be quite easy to have an unreachable limit on the server and on the way to client side from what I have seen, because the data is transmited as a string. The data would only be limited by the database. On the client side it would eat a lot of RAM unless they found a way to make the data type change depending on the size.

I always figured with the \"if you don\'t use your skill it will diminish\" thing that there would be no hard limit but if skills diminish faster the higher the skill then you will reach a point where you need to continue crafting swords every second of every day just to keep your skill at that insanely high level.

If you dont like roleplayers, why are you here waiting for a mmoRPG (massive multplayer ROLE PLAY game, if you dident know) Hmm, maybe some of us roleplayers doesent have a life, or want to have two life at once? i dont know...
well, I am an musican, giving out an album now and again, I run my own musicstudio/computer-service company, and i realy love my life. well, then again, i dream of to bee an old Druid alone in a hut in a huge forest, so maybe you are right after all.. hmm, or maybe not, depending on wich people you meet, but Powergaming is for those to weak in real life, those who always was outsiders, and in an MMOG get a chance to pe powerfull....

well this is a long an cunfusing post, sorry for that lol

Ps. tell us why Planeshift was so popular in the begining... (answare: powerplaying) and then nearly lost all players after a while (thats because powerpaly isent, and will NEVER be fun in the long run)

Ehh, I don\'t think PS is the game for you then...

MB = roleplay
CB = even more roleplay

Role-playing is the entire point of RPG and MMORPG games. Better go play an FPS if that\'s your viewpoint on this.

Lmao that roleplaying comment is hilarious!

Role play... to play a different role.

Hmmm, when a person roleplays its usually just to play as something different, it actually takes brains to roleplay, history, description, playing as the character\'s attitudes and feelings, its just a different gaming experience...

In essence every game is roleplaying, you\'re playing as something different than you but not actually completly controlling how they act and feel.  Basketball games, playing as a star wars character, etc. etc.

Then I suggest you leave this game before you drown in tears.

Powergame or RP, what difference does it make?
« Reply #29 on: August 05, 2004, 05:35:22 pm »
I don\'t want this to break out into a flaming fest or something similar.

Boutus: It is impossible to play any rpg without some minor degree of roleplaying, okay? Roleplaying does NOT mean standing around, talking in character to people doing the same. You still adventure, sharpen your skills do whatever the hell you feel like... Roleplaying is taking the role of a protagonist in a story (the story being the game... PS in other words). It does not mean you spend your whole life thinking you are someone else. I suggest you clear up that little misinterpretation, before you DO get flamed.

Everyone else: if people want to powergame, let them... the game is as much theirs as it is yours, you have no right to stop them. Besides, prospects for powergaming seem minimal in a pre-alpha.. they\'ll get bored and leave eventually, leave us to rp to our hearts\' content, unmolested by \'evil\' powergamers.

I apologise for the length of this post. IMO people can play a game however they want... why should anyone have the right to stop someone else. My personal pref. is RP, powergaming bores me.

I like Red Jelly Beans!
