The preassembled PS MB download is here:
http://www.fragnetics.com/files/PlaneShiftV0.2.010.exeI however think you don\'t need it, because if the installer works, chances are slim for something to be corrupt. Anyway, you may try.
As for your computer: if it has always hated DOS, then I believe there is something else wrong with it. Probably something that only creeps up in some cases, like some games don\'t work, some apps mysteriously crash, stuff like that. Sounds like defective hardware, maybe the leaking capacitor problem or a lightning strike (overvoltage), or just some faulty setup (the BIOS and windoze don\'t usually do the PnP configuration properly, at least they always fail for me).
Use the psconfig in the planeshift folder and set the stuff to minimum levels. Run the updater. If it still doesn\'t work, go to the ps directory, rightclick on it and select \"properties\". It should come up with
101 MB (106,573,190 bytes)
501 files, 38 folders
If yours differs greatly, the install did indeed not work and you need to reinstall completely, probably into a different folder.
Also, make sure that you have at least 500 MB of swapspace (check the free space on the drive windoze resides on unless you changed it, in which case you\'ll know where to look). Also, I\'m not sure if there needs to be free space on the drive PS is installed on, but just in case, there should also be 500 MB of free space. If both wiondoze and PS are on the same drive, sum both up, i.e. there must be at least 1GB of free space.
Make sure that you have the most recent graphics drivers (and DirectX? Don\'t know if it is required) installed.
