Says user name is already on server

Hi there..

PlaneShift looks very exiting and I\'m loking forward to get a closer look..

Everything works fine, except one thing:

When I\'m ready to connect and \"upload\" my character (writing password and everything) a message window appears, saying that the name I\'m trying to register, is already in use.

At first I thought that this could actually be true, but after I have tried several different names, with odd spellings (nothing weird though), it still display the same message.

I have already run the update, which worked fine, but it didn\'t help me with my problem..

Could you please help me?

You may be linkdead or there might be some sort of problem with your connection to the server. Check your firewall/router, if you have one, and allow UDP access through port 13331. Also try rebooting, and try reconnecting if you\'re on dialup.

Heh, yeah I think you have to quit and run PS every time you try a new name.

I have tried everything you have mentioned, but it didn\'t work..

I have also read through all the \"Important\" Threads and tried the different options suggested there, but to no avail..

Perhaps I\'m just going to be patient until someone finds the solution to this problem..

In the meantime I\'ll try to log-on know and then..

It must be a troublesome burden for you, the game designers, to see your project getting bugged down by these annoying problems..

Also take into account that there are over 200 000 names already taken, so you may have to try something a bit more unusual than you have.

You can use this link http://planeshift.fragnetics.com/admin/form.html to see if a name you are interested is taken or not.  Just type in a name, and press \'check\'.  If it says it is vaild, it is taken, but if it says not an account, then its up for grabs.  Faster doing this than going through character creation several times
