The Hydlaa Plaza / Marketing Suggestion

The proliferation of YouTube Channels' stores, selling hats, coffee mugs, etc. using the Channel's logo made me think that that may not only be another easy revenue stream for the project but also great marketing for the PS Unreal launch. After getting a T-Shirt from roll20.net some time ago, it surprised me how many people commented on it and we actually connected online. As far as marketting goes, it worked!  :thumbup:

Complaint Department / Disappearing Mobs

Now what is one of the first things a new player is likely to do and do so on a regular basis?

Kill Mobs!

Somethings must really be done with those time out mobs. A new player may invest all they have in potions and/or ammo only to have the monster disappear moments away from death and that desired loot drop. This is annoying to me somewhat at my level and takes me out of immersion yet to a new player/character it would be hair pulling and enough to think this game is bug ridden (which by and large it is not).

This was brought up at the last Dev Q&A and it was brushed off suggesting that it may be dealt with with the Unreal release. It is hard for this programmer's brain to see how Unreal integration is going to fix a bug in the NPC code, yet it has literally been years since having the code compiled and running on my site and my guess is that that bug is likely hidden in the database equations at any rate.

My feeling is that this should be given a top priority as it distracts from the game in so many way.

While looking into this fix one might consider only sending the dead mobs to the Death Realm once the time has been met and the attacker is out of range of the corpse. Rushing against time to get the loot can be anxiety generating. Especially when they are hard to re-target for a plethora of reasons.

Roleplaying (Communitive Storywriting) / STEEM Blog PS Series

Since returning to PS after an absence it was happy news to hear that a relaunch after Unreal Engine integration was planned. My thought was to bring those following me on the STEEM Blockchain up to scratch about PS. The best way to bring them on board already expecting RP, it seemed to me, was to introduce them through the eyes of my character.

In that regard four different RP posts from the forum have been woven together in the first of my STEEM series, "An old obsession...". Enjoy!

Linux Specific Issues / It has been some time since logging into the game

It has been a very long stretch since logging into the game, yet it must be said that this has been the smoothest installation of the client ever performed by me. Kudos to those that have brought the client to this level of stability and ease of installation.

Linux Specific Issues / May have found where all the players are....

Been away for a while yet not new to planeshift. Even had the server compiled and running at one point. After a recent Ubuntu install thought it would be nice to check how things are going with PS. Grabbed a copy of PlaneShift-*.run and installed. That went smoothly. Loading the game, however, it was acting cantankerous so ran a repair. Low and behold it started downloading dll's and win exe stuff. Ran the setup again and got into the game yet had a flurry of "neveau <mem address>" in the term window and too lagged out to do anything.

No doubt some step was done wrong on my part... however if that was the case then it is very likely that others, less familiar with PS's workings, would have even more woes.

There had been great progress with in game development when last on. Perhaps a similar effort could be made with getting new players into the game in the first place.

Even with my history and interest in PS, after a number of attempts the effort ended up in the trash can and my gaming time back to Wesnoth.

General Discussion / Recent Ranged Mods (bows)

It appears that the range for my character has been seriously cut back. Can one expect that to increase as skill in range increases? She has 73 in range now which is not exactly a beginner.

As it is now it is not much better than her range in CW. At least Summon Missile does not cost an arm and a leg for arrows. Magic wins again?

This has taken all the thrill of the hunt out of range and one may as well be standing toe to toe with a sword. :(

Wish list / More Map Interaction

One area of game mechanics that all styles of players can relate to is being able to change the sandbox. With that in mind then some simple toggles on certain things could be neat. Turn out the torches in Oja. Light them again. Lighting the fire at the Stonehead and it running for a set time (if it does not already). Same with campfires wherever else found like Camp Banishment and the Outpost. Heck why not have parts of the BD torches toggle-able if the technology is written generically enough. All torches?  ::)

As many of my suggestions seem to be fire based, perhaps wood harvesting should be considered and camp fires temporarily craftable.

Something all styles of players could roast marshmellows on.

Wish list / Sheathing a bow

It seems to me that unless one is carrying arrows in one's hand at the same time as carrying a bow that the weapon is not notched and ready to be used.

Each time my character passes the Hydlaa gates with a bow in hand they tell me to "Sheath your weapon." Well first off you do not sheath a bow. Second what would you do with a bow if not carry it in your hand or over your back? 

It is my wish that the guards either ask me to put my bow away and not ask me to sheath it or not say anything if arrows are not being held, ie the bow is not armed and ready to be used as a weapon.

Small thing, yet brought to my attention each time entering or leaving the city.

Wish list / Some learn by doing...

It would be nice to see some learn by doing taking place through the game mechanics. As mounts ride and glide by my character it makes one wonder why she isn't building strength and/or endurance with all the cross country jogging which she does for ic reasons. Some learn by doings would go a long way to helping bring the game mechanics to those who would rather spend time rp-ing than grinding, as well.

Complaint Department / Forced Group Kills (so far only with magic users)

Thought this should go into complaints first in case it is not a bug.

The first time this happened thought it was just me... yet just now it was obvious that the software was allowing it.

While firing on a Maul with bow a magic user jumped in and the message was something like "<character name> group shares the attack" or something like that. The time this happened before the other character was using magic too.

If this is intentional then it is very frustrating. If it is not intentional then let me know so that a bug report can be made.
