If you experience trouble, you can get your old maps back by running the updater again, maybe with the repair option... Or just put your backups back... The fix is mostly aimed at windows users. They seem to benefit from this fix, after getting this bug.

What a lovely dark poem. I wonder what kind of music will come with it. Seems kinda suitable for deathmetal.  ;)

I have had the same problem, and have a, well, kinda fix.

New maps for Hydlaa plaza and Hydlaa East can be downloaded from http://planeshift.alphasys.nl and the problem lies in the lighting application of Crystal Space. Xordan is aware of this problem, and has already reported it in the bugtracker for CS. It's not a 100% fix, as Hydlaa will still be kinda dark, but at least it's not pitch black anymore.

Please make a backup of the two files before replacing them, as it's not guaranteed it will work for you, but it works for me, and at least two others I know of. If there are problems with other maps aswell, I might be able to tweak those in a similar manner, but let me know in this thread then.

General Discussion / Re: What is your character's race?
« on: November 10, 2008, 07:46:09 pm »
Answering Mythryndel:

If someone has multiple accounts (not multiple chars but accounts) and using them for mining, trading among chars, or doing anything else... There is no official way to stop it. It is discouraged though. If people have the resources at hand to logon twice, thrice, or even more... Well, happy happy joy joy! But personally I think they should use their computing power for something else... Like Seti@home or whatever... I'd like to see "mules" run as fast as regular chars when the mines get raided by ulbernauts, or whatnot. And we've been cutting slack on all of you there.

For your information: If we see it fit when we raid a mine, we can steal from your pouches. And no way you could stop that from happening.

Having more than one character is encouraged though. Albeit only when they are used as alternate personalities. When used as mules, they might get raided just aswell. The risk of that is kinda low, in perspective.

The more accounts one has on line, the more risk they take. When we decide to take stuff, the extra accounts are more likely to be targetted.

By the way... Banking is implemented, and usable. Just with trias. So sell the stuff and put it in the bank. That way you're assured of your personal wealth.

The Hydlaa Plaza / Re: Hiatus

Well Caarrie, can't say we really got along, but I wish you all the best. And in a way, I'll miss you.  :-[

Lately we had a number of reported crashes with wrong positional data. People trying to enter a new level and finding themselves on the air, or just with a box saying there's an error... Click OK and try again...

We are trying to understand more of the problem, so please make screenshots, even if the only thing you ever see is a box with mumbo-jumbo... Some people might make use of it! Check if a crash report is generated, provide it to us. Launch the psclient with --verbose --console and then look at the console to see if there is any visible error, copy paste it all and post it.

Most importantly please provide:
- your platform (windows, mac, linux)
- your video card (And drivers if you know like your version of Ati Catalyst or nVidia drivers)
- your position when it happened (can be hard at times, but you know)
- the last few actions you took in game (just walking? Trading? Talking to an NPC or player?)

Even the best developers can't figure out some of the bugs if you don't come forward with them or send in reports of it.

Take some time to look at the bugtracker, on http://hydlaaplaza.com/PlaneShift/flyspray/ and say your mind. Whatever crashes you, or you find faulty, look for a bug to fit it in, or make a new one with your special problem. And please do take the time to find a bug to put it in, we don't really like to see 100 bugreports on the same thing. So take up your responsibility and find bugs! And report them!

One message players got is: "Received out of bounds positional data, resetting your position." while being in the middle of Hydlaa Plaza. We are not sure if that's related to the other random crashes as well, but could be. Terrain is currently having issues, but will be fixed soon. Tell us if it's happening only on terrain or not.

Anything you have to report may be helpful to us, so please stop being just a player, and become a contributor, even if it just means reporting the 1000th instance of some sort of bug. Just put it in the right place, if you can. Your bugreport may lead to the path of fixing all the trouble we've experienced, of stop you from experiencing more bugs. Don't we all like an Yliakum that's sound? Help!

:D I like the song, best without the extension from Edicho imo. Having been a game moderator in other MMORPG's, I've seen it happen a lot. Made me chuckle anyway. If I'll ever find the time for it, I might even go for the extra points.  :sweatdrop:

Lolitra, get well soon.
Knowing the ordeal you're going through, a setback was expected. Just stay strong.
You'll overcome this. Hope to see you soon, so you can amaze me with your awesome role in Yliakum again.
I miss you.

Complaint Department / Re: #planeshift-gmtalk and "idling"
« on: January 01, 2008, 05:38:58 pm »
The non-idling rule is there to give people with a problem privacy while we investigate the problem. As we're usually in game aswell and in quite a few channels on IRC, it's best to call us by name, so we get alerted by a notice that someone is trying to get in contact.

Do keep in mind though, we're also policing, handling petitions, and involved in other tasks, chats, wikiupdates, forum replies and such. We can't always respond within a minute or so. Sometimes the notice gets drowned in other messages too.

Although for most players, we are invisible, and what we do is usually not noticable, we are busy people.

In general... Have a little patience. And first think if you really need direct hands-on response by a GM anyway. Bugreports and petitions usually work the best. One example of needing hands-on response is when your character got stuck, or can't logon with a character because it went out of bounds.

If you really need one of us, and don't get a response in, say, 5 minutes: Nudge again, maybe someone else?

This is a known problem, it's on the bugtracker, people are working on it.

Technical Help: IN GAME bugs (after loading world) / Re: Sword Skill Bug
« on: November 24, 2007, 09:24:01 am »
Just go back to your last swordtrainer, and start training again till you see in your status window you can't train any more. If that doesn't solve the problem, there may be something else the matter. I've had the problem with all skills. Magic, Mining, Metallurgy, Smithing. Specially after a relog I have to "retrain" some skills to start practicing again, usually only takes 2 or 3 clicks.

* Addition:

It was the swords Kartinitso was using. The problem was resolved after using standard weapons in stead of Longswords and claymores with fancy names.

Still remains, daggers seem to be much more effective now than swords, even when the level of training on swords is higher.
