Complaint Department / Re: no climbing anymore? Great :(
« on: July 05, 2008, 03:08:42 pm »
Birot, when it digressed from the the issue at hand, Neko locked it. Ever since it has been dead on topic. It has been explained by testers and Doajoji. You'll survive, somehow, until the climbing skill is implemented, or the walls that prevent you from glitching are for whatever reason removed. And I would recommend going back and rereading your post. It reads like a direct attack to the devs over something that isn't game ruining, and has been explained.

An enkidukai posts a message on the door to Kada-Els:

Are you tired of passing out drunk onto the shoulder of destiny? Why not get something physical instead? Bored wandering the wilderness with the bandits chasing you as your only companions? Tired of being the only single person at your friends' weddings? Is the warmest relationship in your life that with your torch? Well, look no further! Tomorrow is Singles Night! Come alone, or bring friends, and meet people interested in striking up a relationship! A few Bards will be present to help keep the mood, and there will be lots of free beer and food! Come, and finally meet someone that can enjoy your companionship!

And if it comes to that, the Brazen Bards can also handle marriages...

[This event will happen on Tuesday, the 8th. Serq, and other Brazen Bards that can make it will hit the scene at about 1500-1600 GMT. We'll be managing it and distributing the food. It is a chance to meet someone in game, make some friendships, and maybe even find new people to rp with. Of course married, or dating people can come and enjoy the scene. Hope to meet you there!]

General Discussion / Re: Banned Last Name?
« on: June 30, 2008, 01:55:25 pm »
My first alt, Furnacespirit Monsterthing, had his name changed. I sat him inside of furnaces and demanded not to be smelted upon. He's Vobika now.

Sktn, that might be because that can either be interpretted as Want-to, Want-oh, or even want-ah. And Ziber's not exactly obvious.  :P But I doubt he'll be Wanto much longer.

You forgot something in the main post, that I found in th 30 seconds I was on. Might want to add it

You no longer have to type book0.txt when loading books. After saving a book, you can load it back by the book's name at the time of saving! I can load books as 'The Death Realm,' or 'Gurgontid!'  \\o//

General Discussion / Re: Approved guilds?

And what standard? :P

The standard of the settings  :P

Xillix: I'm sorry, but I don't know how easy it is to enforce naming standards. Is that obviously very easy to enforce, or was it a sarcastic reference to a bitterly debated subject?

I like the idea of every guild fulfilling a purpose to the settings, but there will be some problems. What will set about one guild full of vallient warriors from another guild of vallient warriors?

The Laanx temple has some secrets, and mentions the past, and I'll bet the priests will tell you what the gods are thinking...

Try putting the ingots back into the furnace until they melt into iron ore.

Forum ID: SerqFeht

In Game: Serq, and rarely Obsyd, Fideod, Vobika

Time Zome: GMT-8 (Western Pacific US)

Hours in game: 10+ hours a week

Hang-outs: Everywhere. Use /tells to locate me or you won't find me without some serious luck.

Religous Orientation: Gives respect to Gods, but refuses to blindly worship without a personal sign

Guild: Brazen Bards

Description: A tall, male Enkidukai passes by, muttering to himself. He wears bright, green, fine robes that betray his muscular, if somewhat chubby, structure. A small, bright badge on his right shoulders announces his name as Serq Feht, with the name 'Brazen Bards' carved underneath the name. Serq appears well groomed, although there are stray hairs, and his robes have become wrinkled. He has a small scar over his left eye. A fine staff is held in his right hand, but he also wears a belt containing two daggers. A large pouch is slung over his left shoulder, and loose papers and books can be seen through the opening. His eyes dart around ceaselessly. He appears energetic, but steps gingerly.

I don't really like this idea. Extending upon Marq's extended example, this permits powerleveling. It gives players permission to never have ic conversations. It promotes loling in main chat because what do they care? They're PLs!

Guides and Tutorials / Re: Advisors, Advising, and Advice
« on: June 26, 2008, 12:43:38 am »
Personally, when I advise, I will direct the seekers directly to the 4 major npcs (Harn, Trasok, Allelia, Brado). I feel this is ok, because you can't really do anything without first talking to them. And when I get questions, such as 'where can I get a pick?' I'll say something like, 'Toda is well known for supplying miners. She owns a shop near to Trasok.' Or something along that format. Again, following my definition, if it is required to play and enjoy the game, it can be spoiled. A new player can't earn much money without mining, and the other ways to make a living as a newbie (begging, leeching guilds, fighting rats for hides) are less than enjoyable. So it fits my criteria.

But I am interested in hearing dev and gm opinions on what qualifies as advisor spoilage, and if I hit their definition or not. But this makes sense to me, at least.

I do it when I get a chance.

Do GMs currently have the ability to relieve ineffective advisors? I saw it was in the bugtracker to ban them from advising. I only ever advised at the same time as one other person one time. They gave decent advice, but it could have been more fleshed out.

Thanks for the link! Most of those will go into mechanics and the GM rule section.

I'm glad the window is being updated. A few sessions have timed out while I was typing some long advice. Is it okay if I wait for this to be released, however? I don't want to confuse anyone that is advising for the first time by including things that haven't yet been implemented.

That's okay, but be careful, as you might be the only advisor. Then, people start realising there is an advisor for once, and the window gets flooded. I'll post some simple advice to give for basic questions on that advice for advisors page, so if you activate it and find yourself alone, you'll be able to survive.  ;)
