Title: Official Community Texture Contest 1
Post by: josephoenix on August 29, 2006, 11:11:24 pm
The contest has ended! See the bottom of this post for relevant links.

The PlaneShift team, in cooperation with the PS-MC (http://www.ps-mc.com/), has decided to host a texturing contest where players can submit new textures for existing models. We are holding a one-week texturing contest for an NPC variation, and looking for a winning texture of the Rat NPC model to appear in-game.

The best three new NPC textures will be given to Talad for the final selection - the winners will be announced here and on the PS-MC website!

A note of warning! A winner is not guaranteed in this contest. We certainly hope that all participants will wow us with their work, but the PlaneShift Team are looking for high-quality textures only - so do your best and prove that you have what it takes.

Legal notice: By participating in this contest you agree that upon winning your texture becomes for PlaneShift's use and PlaneShift's use only - under PlaneShift's License - and not to be used in any other work or project.

Here is the reference texture: Official Rat Texture (http://contests.ps-mc.com/ctc1/rat_texture.png). Use this to create yours.

Think you have what it takes? Read the guidelines and then submit your texture from that page. No posting entries in public please! That means no final entries, no WIPs (works in progress). If you need a critique or help, please use PMs.

Rules, Guidelines, and Upload Form (http://contests.ps-mc.com/ctc1/)

Two Entries Maximum per Applicant Please!

NEW CONTEST DEADLINE:

The contest will close at 11:59 PM GMT, Tuesday, September 19th, 2006[/color]

Good luck, PlaneShift community!

josePhoenix

Yep, this is an official contest and yes if there is a winner, his or her texture will be used in the game :] We're starting with something small to see how the community does - if you can make a simple rat look amazing, then it will prove to us that you have the skills to make something more complex look great as well. Sometimes it's the simple, small things that give us the hardest time instead of larger projects, and dealing with them successfully is a good sign.

Don't hesitate to submit an entry! I have a lot of confidence in our community artists.

Too bad that there's something wrong with the PC-MC domain  ::|
Neither the original texture, nor the Rules/Guidline/Upload-Page, nor the website www.ps-mc.com is reachable.

Greetings

EDIT: Works again  \\o//

Yeah, in the future, if we can't have the original file, we at least need a uv unwrap.  Can't match up seams if you don't know where they are...

The viewmesh stuff.

Hi,

To Jekkar: Hmm, using viewmesh isn't obligatory, but it helps. Karyuu made a nice guide for using viewmesh (http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=25146.msg278152#msg278152). If you still can't use it, try viewing the texture in PS by replacing the original rat skin.

Here's also rat texture area map for those who are interested in the competition, but not so good in reading-pre-made-textures. It's not quite as useful or exact as UV-map, but gives pretty good idea what is where.
http://users.tkk.fi/~vrantapu/PlaneShift/Diagnostics/rattexture_areas.png

Key:
Head = brown
Torso = pink
Fore limbs = light blue
Rear limbs = blue
Ears = violet
Claws = green
Tail = grey
Mouth = red
Teeth = yellow
Eye = orange
Excess space = white

In 3D:

Still few days left, good luck everyone. :)

The texture format is in dds but used to be in png. How am I supposed to replace the file if its not in the same format?
Title: Re: Official Community Texture Contest 1
Post by: Karyuu on September 05, 2006, 12:06:54 am
Jekkar: there is a link in the first post to the PNG rat skin (http://contests.ps-mc.com/ctc1/rat_texture.png). There is no need to work with DDS for the contest.

Also, replacing formats is easy. Edit the .cal3d file and change the name of the texture used, .PNG/.DDS ending included.

Just rename Your file (to finalrattexture.dds) and replace the original. CrystalSpace will recognize image format properly regardless of file extension.

And the other disappointing bit is that we have had 0 entries turned in so far. Is it unrealistic to hope that we will be flooded with them at the last minute?

Depending on how things go... this will either be extended for another week, or we'll throw up our hands and never listen to any complaints about a "lack of unofficial contributions" ever again ;P

A few comments,

You treat this as though it were for a prospect.  Now, that may well be all and good and stuff, but posting it here on the forum, and giving it to a prospect are a bit different.  For one, the amount of time.   A prospect knows that they will have a week to complete the tasks given to them ahead of time, so they can adjust thier schedule to make time to do it, or ask for an extention.  Here, no one was given that ahead notice, it was just dropped on people.  Probably some people knew how busy thier week was going to be, knew they couldn't get it done, so didn't even bother to start it all.  Perhaps if this was run more like how the fan art contests were run, giving the community a month's time, then people could prepare and get something done.  Surely, if a person planned to participate they could find the time to work on something in a month's time much easier than a week.

Another point I'd like to make, is that maybe 2d textures isn't what some people are interested in.  Maybe they are looking into something say more along the lines of 3d models, so they didn't participate.  Just becuase the first attempt was lackluster at best should call for the immeadiate discontinuation of the official contests.  That'd be like saying I'm never going to go to or surrport GM events becuase one event didn't go so well do to problems.  If the turnout isn't as great as you may have hoped it to be, that's a shame, but it shouldn't mean just giving up completey.  Perhaps try something differnt next time.  Mix it up a bit, give options, rather than one set subject to do.  Those community contests held not too long ago, produced some nice results, I'd hate to see that be all for naught.

Also, not really sure aobut this, but has this been advertised anywhere but here?  In IRC, maybe a MOTD on the game, or on the planeshift.it or someplace else, to reach a broader audiance than just the forums themselves.

Okay, I'll be a good menki and be quiet now, let the artists do their artisticy things without all my blabbering.

I tend to agree with neko.  I've been working on a tex as well but have been busy with the community modeling project as well.  Plus its possible many people didn't see this until there was far less time left.  Given a bit more time even I'd have had an entry, though I'll admit I am not fantastic with 2d design :D  Still though I'd like to have participated instead of habing a half finished texture on my pc

Of course I really should have mentiioned this before, but it never really occured do me.   Hindsight is always 20/20 though.

And a bit of advertising could be useful.  I'll see if I can poke some guildmates into participating as well.

I'd really hate to have you all base that off of one contest taht wasn't as successful as you'd like.  I love the idea of a competition like this and I still stand by my belief that this community holds the skills and abilities necessary .  I'll contine to work on my entry even beyond the deadline if it comes to that.

That is a shame that no one has submitted. I myself after reading this thread wondered where all of these people have gone who wanted to have a helping hand in the community and who whinned that the dev's and gm's never listen. With only giving a week, well I could understand that that wouldn't be enough time, but you would think if anyone was going to enter they would say something and request more time. Then Karyuu would just extend the time, as she has done now in hopes people will contribute. Really the time is not an issue, but people contributing is.

I hope people enter this contest and try at it because it would be nice to see the community spirit we had on these forums six months ago or so with people submitting their 3D and 2D art and showing their best. I came to love the art thread and thought this community had alot of talented players. Have we lost that? I surely hope not .......

I thought this contest was a great idea and I thank the dev's for giving the players a chance to have their work in game.

The reason a rat texture is the subject of this contest is because we actually need it. It's not an arbitrary pick of something random. Either the community does it, or the dev team does - but it needs to be done anyway :) So this is not only contributing, it's very much helping, instead of us asking for some 3D model we have no need of at the moment.

Talad was very pessimistic about contests like these, and I've wanted to show him that the community artists are better than that. So if we're extending the contest deadline, let's make sure it ends with a very awesome and rewarding bang.

How does two more weeks sound?

Arcane wanted to make some kind of lava rat.

Liten to any complaints about lack of unofficial contributions in the area of textures, you mean.  Granted, you'd like to see that this concept can work, but maybe textures wasnt the best place to start and draw a general conclusion from.

I mean, if someone is skilled enough to be a contributor to the PS project (which is implied they would have to be for their work to be the winner of such a competition to be included), and interested in being part of the team, why wouldnt they be already?  Either, theres too much red tape involved (possible?  I've never gone through the process of trying), or they dont have the time to contribute on a regular basis with deadlines and such.  Im guessing the second reason is more probable.  Therefore a competition like this with 1 week to make something would be better suited for looking for contributions from those wanting to be members, not from those who have the skills in the community to contribute but arent members.  I think some sort of area where contributions from the different sections could be accepted and then in time (depending on the avaliable time of whoever makes the desicions for content in that department) reviewed for possible inclusion would be more suitable.  Typically, a skilled community member will have periods where they are able to put alot of time into creating something awesome, and periods where they're too busy with real life.. thus an arbitary one week period might not fit in with their schedule, and so they cant contribute.

None the less I hope someone puts their hand up and creates and awesome texture for the game the use.  It would be an excellent start.

Hmmm. I have been watching this and wondering what would come of it. I have little in the way of arting skills, or I would have had a texture or two on the table already. But, something has occurred to me. Even though this contest is open to the community, it is still closed to the public. The artists are out there as lone individuals due to the rule of "No posting in public". This robs blooming artists of much needed feedback and critiquing such as this:

"That looks great, but if you were to smooth this area..."

"Your fur looks too flat. I found a tutorial that may help."

"That texture is too dark to use ingame."

Or simply "Good start, now add more details."

When submitting a project to Talad, is it done blindly, or do you nudge him once in a while with the WIP to see what would be better? Now, I know that would not work with this project, as he is a busy man, so I suggest that the community itself takes that role. Let the artists post thier works-in-progress in public and let the community do what they do best...tell them what they are doing wrong. ;)

Let this truly become a community project. As to the "Oooo and Ahhh" factor, lets face it, most players rarely come to this part of the forum and will never see it. Also, many more players that do will flood the sewers -just- to see something they had all created together, as they will see it. Then, they will kill it.

When people post in public, it can be both inspiring and discouraging. Seeing something amazing from someone can and often does stop those who think they will never match it, and who then give up. I'm always available here to give pointers through PMs, and asking for general help such as "Any good tips on creating fur?" or similar is more than welcome in this thread.

When I look at you and Gentar's artwork it doesn't discourage me. And for most americans out there, should encourage, unless they are the lazy useless people, because the american spirit is competitive to the last, in my opinion.

No posting contest entries or WIPs. This part of the rules is final. We are interested in what the (individual) artists can produce, not the entire community. If it was a "whole-community-participation-contest" where everyone could work on one entry on something, this would be different. People are free to ask each other for help, privately.

i would just like to say that this is simply great, gives PS much more of a cummunity feeling, like other games have (wesnoth).

If this first contest is not a huge success, dont be diapointed, ps does not have this tradition yet that the community helps creating the art, so i tink it will take some time, but when people acutaly see that those textures realy go ingame (well, if they are worth it), then im sure much more will help on the next contests.

anyways, good luck to anyone and thanks to the devs for this contests :-) ps realy needs it

I would just submit the rat on the deadline if I were you, if they think it's good I'm sure they'll allow you to finish it up a bit ;)

I would like to suggest not to use only the winning skin, but instead implement a technique to use a random skin on spawning -- Enkidukai have different skins too, so rats with random skins were just a perfect way to add a quant more of reality. ;)

People are getting a little over-enthusiastic :D

A reminder to folks: two entries maximum per applicant! This doesn't mean you need two. But it does mean that you can't submit three or more. If someone made that mistake, only the first two will be counted.

A friend just brought this "More than one way to skin a rat" contest to my attention.

Working strictly in 2D is like trying to paint a Mona Lisa through a keyhole, while standing up on a hammock...

But I will try again to get the viewing package to work on my winbox...

If I have any time left after that, and come up with anything worth looking at, I will share it.

Another option is to have another type of rat say called "Sewer Rat".  Many games overcome fewer monsters by making several skins for the same mesh and giving it different names.  Sort of like genus variation. Each rat would be a different species.  Some rat species could be more difficult and the differences in appearance should make it easy to distinguish.

On another note my first entry has been submitted.  I notice in the entry form that I can only submit it as myself but I want to make sure it is known that this was a joint effort between Jekkar and myself.

Induane - a new species would mean that all those spawns will always create the same texture variant.

I would prefer that the same spwan could create variants of the same species, which will add a random factor.

and, will our old friend the black rat still remain with us? or will they be completely supressed by the new breed(s) of super rat?

The contest will close at 11:59 PM GMT, Tuesday, September 19th. Calculate what time that is in your timezone and plan accordingly :} We're not going to be counting anything submitted after the deadline.

After the contest ends there is still judging to do, so don't expect results immediately :} A couple of days or more to sort through the entries and give Talad time to decide will probably be needed.

As for when exactly you will see these textures in game, I don't have that information - but you'll most likely find out when the winner is announced.

Well, my alarm just went off for 7:59 (11:59 GMT)... so

The contest has ended.

Thank you to everyone who submitted entries!

If you didn't enter, perhaps because texturing isn't your thing, or you don't like rats... there will be more contests, never fear. Keep an eye on PS-MC (http://ps-mc.com/) and the PlaneShift irc channel topic for more news. (Yes, I realize there is no post about this contest on the PS-MC page... this is my fault I suppose for forgetting ;) ). I will need to talk with Talad, but hopefully we can showcase everyone's submissions as soon as we find a winner. Fingers crossed.
But for now...

Do not post your entries publically (yet)!

Another thing: opinions or comments on the entry submission form? Did you think it was simpler than sending PMs? Feedback appreciated.

re: submission form
Very nicely done! Well-thought out, very professional.
It feels a lot more professional than a PM (and is probably very slightly easier to use)... more importantly, (I'm making some assumptions about what's happening on the back-end) it probably scales a lot better than a PM from your POV -- if you were inundated with hundreds of entries, I presume it's much easier to manage in this format.

YaY! fun contest!
(although I think it was a little nasty chosing a model which would likely have a heavily-textured skin running across seams...  ::)  )

It is really nice to see the community/fans taking an interest like this in helping to grow the game. :-)

Texturing alternative mobs is something we have now found that we can ask the community to do and which the community seems to be capable of.  This is good news for monster variety in the future. :-)

Congrats to all participants, winner or not.

I would like to say it again, this is great, for me the spirit of planeshift seems more open, less elite developers that have the ultimate power (well, they still have it, but at least there is the illusion that the community has some to ;-) ), and this is great for a open source game.

thank you, and good luck for the future!

Karyuu, I believe Baldur was referring to LARAGORN's post just before about how the winner won't be shown until after its in game since Talad doesn't like to show off in gme stuff bfore it is publicaly released.

I believe Baldur was trying to imply that they were wishing it wouldn't be shown, becuase that would mean that they won.

Not sure though, but thats what I got out of it.

Karyuu, as mentioned I submitted 3, show them all if you like, I'm shure I'll survive the "constructive critisim", but technically, my 3rd, a terrible attempt at a reptilian rat, is not a valid contest entry.

Electronically works just as well - snail mail isn't necessary for such things.

The texture is for PlaneShift and PlaneShift only. Those of you who somehow worry that it's going to be used for something else without your knowledge should put your fears to rest.

What I partly meant was exactly what I said "Don't show my texture" but coming to think of it the constructive would be good even if it was a killer, and i'm sure i'll get hanged ^_^

I didn't know what my texture looked like because I had no access to viewmesh because of a corrupted file from download(which I tried several times but to no avail). So I sent it because it looked fairly good, and I was impatient to see what they would think of it.

Now, Minetus had viewmesh and he offered me to show it to me. I was horrified by the lack of detail which I thought, in my mind, I had.

Next time i'm going to submit a much better texture and work it from the start.

At any time if you have something not working, the community's here for you :] I could've sent you the install file I had backed up, or the already-installed-folder-of-stuffs. If anyone's in need of anything, never worry about asking for it.

Every step is a learning process either way.

I had no fear the art would be used somewhere else.

I just wanted to know what would happen next, and when.

I tried very hard to make my rat fit in with the style of the rest of the artwork.

So I worked to correct things that were wrong with the original, rather than trying to create a new thought altogether.

I like my result very much.

I think my rat looks like something that belongs in PS, and it is hard to wait, rather than just share it.

Really, Karyuu?

You mean that a rat that looks out of place, and does not fit in with the style, color values, contrast and shading of the rest of the art, is more likely to be a winner?

Damn, I wish you had told me.

I thought that keeping the PS look, would be a good thing.

CrystalSpace supports a variety of skins, and modifications. There is no need for exactly one additional texture, there can be many more new skins at once. And if you are not satisfied with the choice... there are many alternatives out there! ;)

You are all winners.  You all got the experience of creating a texture.  Some were better than others, and will get in game (maybe?), but everyone definitely gained something from it.  Now lets all hug and say what we're thankful for.

Verliit: Keeping the PS look is important, and will likely play a role in deciding what gets in-game (if anything).  However, 'fixing' an already good texture is not the way to go about it.  It was given as a reference, to make it possible, and to demonstrate the level of quality of what is already in-game.  The goal of the contest was to create a completely new texture.  Considering this is an official PlaneShift contest, I think it's safe to say that keeping it within the PS style was implied.

Karyuu did everyone a huge favor and put all the textures on rats for display, which must have been a ton of work. Thank you Karyuu <3

Now without further ado, I present the...

Winners and Entries! (http://contests.ps-mc.com/ctc1/entries.html)

Congratulations to Moogie, Minetus + Induane, and Venae Rell. I have to agree with ArcaneFalcon, though:

Not bad... Funny to see that several people had similar ideas, but different results. For example, "albino" and "different eye count" must have been obvious variations.

How about collecting all the textures at ps-mc for those who would like to check them as mods?

*Hops in from a link Kary sent*

...Wow. I was really, really not expecting this. My first submission was a little tongue-in-cheek, and I was sure Talad wouldn't take it seriously because it looks kinda zombie-fied.. xD But actually I wrote them a little history that explains the appearance, they arn't really undead... erm, and as for the other one, that turned out rather plain, but I did like masking the third eye and pretending it wasn't there. Eeeevil third eye, thou dost not exist!!

I'd like to jump on the opportunity to say congrats to everyone else who entered, not just the other winners. These skins are fantastic work. There's so much hidden talent here, and I hope you guys had as much fun with this as I did. I particularly -love- Minetus's winning entry (those eyes are gorgeous!) and Krann Omins' one because it looks like a poisonus frog, which is so much different from the others. :) I have to admire Wired_Crawler's entry also because it looks like he put a huge amount of effort into lining the details up between different areas of texture, and I know that's a tough cookie to do. Kudos to you, dude.

I loved this contest idea, and it was nice to hop back in to PS and get involved with it again. There should definitely be many more contests in the future, not just for skinning, but perhaps music composition or meshbuilding or something. I think the extended deadline must have helped a lot of people, I know it helped me.

Thank you :)

The extended deadline did help a great deal I think.  Good work takes time as they say! :D  I really hope they continue these contests.  Its a good way to get some extra content without a ton of work from the 3d and 2d devs who are probably already at max workload and  I love the open feel a contest like this brings to PlaneShift. I'd love to see some meshbuilding or music composition ones as well! :D I've worked on a few songs myself by tuning my guitar extremely odly and trying to add some uniqueness to the sound  - somethign light and peaceful :D

I though your one entry was a robot rat at first though (no offense intended) so I got a good kick out of that until I looked closer ;)

Congradulations to everyone, really I thought looking back at it that there were several others that could have made it ingame as well.  I agree that Wired_Crawlers entry was wonderful as well!

Thanks for a great competition everybody!

Maybe more will get in besides the winners? There should be runners up too!

I was really positively suprised that people did the skins with 3 eyes \o/. I was wondering many times how the rats are able to distinguish distances beatwe different objects. Because with one eye, it is rather hard. Especialy when the rat want to move fast, having not enough time, to look at the same objects from different angles.
Three winning entries. My personal thoughts.
Moogie's entry: It looks like undead. A creation of some mage, which used shinned rats parts for his/her purposes and then left without master, or whatever.
Induane-Minetus: A normal rat. I only can't understand why the eyes have these orange reflections.
Venae Rell's: A deseased rat. Poor thing's days are probably already counted, but before it die, it may infect other living beings. Bad fate, or intention of someone with evil plan ;)

I don't know original stories of these rats. It are just my feeings from looking at these rats :)

EDIT
I really hope they continue these contests.
I want tree contest ;P

Just to clarify, the winners on the page are the top three that Karyuu and I liked. The final decision of which (if any) will go ingame is up to Talad.

@LigH: Unfortunately I can't just take all the textures and put them up at PS-MC without asking. However, if people would like to make their submission available as a mod, drop by #ps-mc on irc.freenode.net or post on our forums (http://forums.ps-mc.com/) (our forums have been acting a bit weird and being mobbed by bots though).

@Nikodemus: Are you SURE you didn't read Moogie's backstory? That's pretty much what it is I think xD

I never posted it, I might aswell though. :) Here you go, the origins of the Stitch Rats:

Many years ago, a worshipper of Laanx isolated himself deep within the sewers of Hydlaa, where he spent a life of solitude in the dank, wet labyrinths, conducting experimentations with Dark Way magics. One of his most successful endeavors was in controlling the minds of beasts by embedding a specially prepared glyph into the brain of his subjects, using it to channel a pattern of Dark Way energy straight into their minds. When this energy was steadily maintained, the mage could give basic commands to his new minions with subtle alterations in the energy pattern. After much testing, he concluded that rodents were the most versatile and abundant creatures he had at his disposal this far under the surface. After this breakthrough, the mage spent many years utilizing rats as obedient servants, using them for everything from waste disposal to scavenging supplies to be used in his latest experiments. Over time he had created a veritable army of vermin, and old folks tell tales of the noise that could be heard filtering through the street pavings of the thousands of scuttering feet below.

Legend has it that the mage's body was eventually found dead by a party of adventurers who happened to stumble across his lair. His flesh had been shredded away to the bone by the oldest of his rodent minions, whose decomposing brains eventually drove them to no longer heed his commands. Unable to fully die, and lacking intelligence enough to understand their existence free from magical bondage, the rats would attack and feed on anything that moved. When the man perished, his link with all other minions was severed, leaving them to wander aimlessly through the dark tunnels.

Stitch Rats are often wrongly refered to as a species. Their main defining characteristic is the state of their body, which is often covered in scars, scratches, or lesions. Sections of skin may (often tenuously) be held together by thick metal stitchings, evidence that their creation had not been natural. They are usually in poor physical health, and their mental state leaves them vicious and easily provoked into attack. Stitch Rats are relentless in their pursuit of sustainence; this is thought to be an undying echo of the last command ever sent through the glyphs before the magical link to their master was finally cut.

 ::| I won! Wowsers!

*looks at the stitch-rat's ears* Ooohhhh...

I totally didn't think of using transparency to deal with the rat's clunky-pointy ears and now I want to fix my texture up more!
 *grins*

If Talad wants to use the moldy-glowy-RellRat in-game, I'd be happy to make some improvements!

Wow! So many different rats :). Now every map in PS can have it's own unique species ;) Congratulations go to winners and all contestants. We all did a good job, I think.
I'm looking forward to more opportunities to train new skills (I am starting to like texturing too).

P.S. Karyuu, You needn't have worried so much :P.

I'd like to say something, because some people are evidently jumping to conclusions.

Jose and Xordan and I picked what we considered the top 3-4 contest entries. These along with all the rest were sent to Talad, and he still has the final word.

<josePhoenix> So, Talad, will any of these make it ingame?
<Talad> don’t know yet
<Talad> but can be
<Talad> I have to check it more closely

So for those who think that Jose and I judged the entire thing and that's it, you're really off.

Also, we are not replacing the old textures. The old textures will still be there - the new are just additions. Thank you again.

Just what I already expected:

The contest is the contest. Contest winners won the contest.

The game is the game. Contest contributions might become game contributions, but don't need to be contest winning entries to be chosen.

This just in from the Talad News Network!

Talad has decided which rat textures from the winning set will be going ingame. The winners of this part are:

Moogie                    and                  Venae Rell

(http://contests.ps-mc.com/ctc1/entries/moogie01.jpg) (http://contests.ps-mc.com/ctc1/entries/moogie01.jpg)             (http://contests.ps-mc.com/ctc1/entries/venae_rell01.jpg) (http://contests.ps-mc.com/ctc1/entries/venae_rell01.jpg)

Congratulations Moogie and Venae Rell!

Talad also stated that we should expect to see these variations ingame "quite soon, before [version 0.3.]017 I think". So, keep your eyes peeled ;]

Thanks for the "creepy eyes" observation, Xillix! I agree... they are rather disturbing to look at when the model is moving around.

Venae, if you really wanted to, I'd say go ahead and fix the ears, and then shoot the updated rat to say karyuu or someone like that.  I don't see why they wouldn't except it, but thats just me.

I believe you're free to make improvements at this point :] In fact if you feel that you can make it even lovelier with slight adjustments, you should be given all the freedom.

Gentar: Moogie isn't coming back entirely, she just wanted to hop in for the contest as a way of practicing :}

haha, there are some really good entries in there....
And that rat with the light holy eye thing, scared me. As did Kran ominis's rat for the PS players on Ecstasy....

Nice to see some skins are getting in game, and that maybe you guys gave him a litttle faith in the skill of the Community.
