The updater shipped in the 0.4.01 release was a little broken unfortunately. We've quickly resolved the problem however;
1) If you're still running 0.4.00 or you have the 0.4.00 installer, you should be able to update from 0.4.00 to 0.4.01 with no problems.
2) If you don't fall into the above category then you will need to download and extract the updater into your planeshift folder, and then run the updater.
Then also read this http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=32812.0

XORDAN.
I want to say thank you very very very much. I was soo lost and confused because I couldn't get it to work until this.
-
Also want to thank you all for working so much, can't wait to see the new upgrades.
I had no luck, however, getting the updater to run. I've been running 4.0 for a while, and my updaterinfo.xml didn't even have a first line with true or false. I ended up (just now) downloading 4.0.1 instead of dealing with the updater. THAT contains the "false" in the first line, which I've changed to true, although I'm guessing I don't have to worry about that, and it seems to work fine.
I'm hoping that bypassing the updater and performing a reinstall won't affect my character. Guess I'll find out when I have the time to get back in.
-
Hi guys... first off thanks for taking care of us Mac folks \\o//
However, I could not get the new updater to work as suggested above... (the application does not respond)
I downloaded and installed 4.01 from the location specified in the XML file (thanks for the bandwidth Xordan). But when I launch the 4.01 client it does not load all the way! (In non-technical terms, the progress bar stops somewhere near in the middle and doesn't move any further)
The Error log has this to say:
Mon Jun 30 08:27:15 2008, <src/client/clientcachemanager.cpp:68 LoadNewFactory SEVERE>

Thanks Caarrie! I also missed/didn't understand this step until now (for us non-technical people):
Find and open in TextEdit:
updaterinfo.xml
Change this:
<config active="false">
To this:
<config active="true">
Run updater again... Launch 4.01 Client!
See ya'll in 4.01
-
ok i installed the new client then i opened the updaterinfo.xml changed the false to true and then i launch it but nothing happened so i came here and i downloaded the updater above i looked for the file but instead to have config true or false was another thing :

Go into the Read me and do all that is instructed to be done. You will be able to start your PSsetup after that.
At least it worked for me.
The Updater had no problems after that also.
Good luck :)

and allways i don't see any update to click

ok... followed all the instructions above and thought the updater wasn't working - the icon for the updater appeared in the dock but I couldn't see anything was happening. I think what threw me was a lack of a progress window like most would probably expect when updating an app. I saw a new macosx_4.0.1.zip (or something similar to that) file go in the PlaneShift folder after running the psupdater (with the modified updaterinfo.xml as mentioned above) - it was only until I clicked the zip file again and saw that the size of it had increased that I realized what it was doing... ::)
also, opening the console app (Applications/Utilities/Console) helped me to see what was being updated (maui's post got me onto that one).

:) i had to go in ps folder then in data/config/r3dopengl.cfg and take out the ; from the line: Video.OpenGL.Use extension.GL_ARB_texture_compression =false
then work :) (for me)
-
Not working.
I downloaded the newest version (4.01), replaced the patcher that was in the folder with the one you have posted in this thread, and changed the "false" setting to "true".
I ran the updater.
While the updater was running, a bunch of new thingies appeared in my PlaneShift folder:
The patcher kept bouncing for a bit, but I didn't see any windows open or anything - though, I did see the spinning beachball cursor for a few seconds.
After the patcher closed (still no windows or anything, just an abrupt end), those extra icons disappeared.
I checked my updaterinfo.xml file - the contents changed to the kind that does NOT have the "false" or "true" bit at the top.
Double-clicking on the updater now causes it to appear on the dock for a quarter of a second and then disappear.
Halp!!1
-
Hmm... I've always used the psupdater through the Mac terminal - right click, "Show package contents" then "Contents" then "Mac OSX" then "ps_updater_static." It appeared to work fine for me this way in terms of a response... no idea if this helps? Thought i'd mention it anyway. The psupdater GUI never loaded up for me, ever.
-
The psupdater GUI never loaded up for me, ever.
That's because there isn't one (until next release or so).

As long as it bounces it does an update. If it only bounces a cupple of times and then closes, there is no update available. You can actually see if it loaded anything in your updater log in the PS folder. :)
Have fun!

Hmm... I've always used the psupdater through the Mac terminal - right click, "Show package contents" then "Contents" then "Mac OSX" then "ps_updater_static."
I tried this method on file "psupdater_static", which started off fine, but then Terminal reported that it could not find file "updaterinfo.xml"...
I opened Spotlight and searched for that filename: it found only one file "updaterinfo.xml.bak" ... strange to have apparently 2 file extensions!
I got brave, located the file and deleted the ".bak" from the filename then saved.
Double-click on "psupdater_static" ... .. . and Terminal raced away and produced this record of its activity:

since the updater is that mirror that the updater links are on, if you cant download them there is a pretty good chance you can get the updates.

well, the updater has a different opinion. that's for sure. Yet mirrors are pingable, the updater still says there are no active mirrors.

This program requires admin/root or write privileges to run. Please restart the program with these.
In windows, this means right clicking the Updater shortcut and selecting "Run as administrator".
For everyone else, login as the root user. If you don't have root access, contact someone who does and ask them nicely to run the updater!
Updater finished, press enter to exit.
HAHA but I AM the admin!! I checked and double checked and yes, even triple checked...I have read/write access to everything, I am logged into the admin account. There is no reason this should be happening. Does that stop it? I think NOT!

Sorry to answer here even if I have no experience with a MAC at all, but I've heard about that error message before ;) http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=33537.0 (http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=33537.0)
This was on a linux system, but maybe it applies to a MAC too. Is the updater placed in your installation directory of planeshift? If this doesn't help, then please excuse myself and ignore this post ;)

Are you familiar with the Terminal? You could try executing that (sudo) from the CLI if you're comfortable with it.
It works for me; I just had to fix that line in the XML file and download the newest updater.

i am on mac os x. i have tried EVERY SINGLE ONE of these tips on getting it to work, but....nothing. when i run the updater, i get a new zip file called 'macosx-0.4.01.zip'. what is this?
i changed the 'updaterinfo.xml' file to active - nothing.
tried running updater from within the 'psupdater' package - nothing
'14/09/2008 09:52:10 [0x0-0x3f03f].com.apple.archiveutility[1175] ditto: art/world/ojaroad2.zip.vcdiff: No such file or directory' message appears when i run updater
it also says 'checking for updates for all files: Updates available!' then says 'downloading updates...0%' and stops
PLEASE help me. i really want this to work!

'14/09/2008 10:26:02 [0x0-0x3d03d].psupdater[1173] md5sum of client zip does not match correct md5sum!!
14/09/2008 10:26:02 [0x0-0x3d03d].psupdater[1173] Couldn't read file /this/updaterinfo.xml.bak!

14/09/2008 10:26:02 [0x0-0x3d03d].psupdater[1173] Updater finished, press enter to exit.'
i tried to run the client but it still said that i needed to run the updater. please help?
-
launch the updater a few more times till it does update the client ;)

None of those worked :( When i disabled the shaders, i put it two lines below the original text (with one blank line in between) maybe this is the problem? wasn't sure where to put it. Otherwise, still doesn't work...Sorry for being such a hassle, just really want to get back into PS!

should be exactly the same.

i've tried by terminal to run the updater but in the laptop with leopard it seems to not have big trouble just the textures ,in the other one i got home that has OS 10.3.9 it can't load the region between hydlaa plaza and jayose library....what can i do?
-
does it make a difference which host/client version i use? I am in the USA, so one with the flag, I get that. but then i'm running a 10.4.11 Mac OS X, Intel Core 2 Duo processor...I was going to download the Xordan version "0.4.01 for newer OS" Is this right? Does it matter which one I choose?
EDIT:
Am following this guide:
http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=14416.0
rather than running the updater PS comes with, i got the new one and ran it (after changing the false to true). Now i have two zip files: "macosx-0.4.02.zip" and "psupdatermacosx.zip" should i unzip these?

Have you updated the drivers of your graphic card?

that is done automatically when the user runs software upgrade, as apple makes sure the user has the correct drivers that work best for them ;)

Hehe, maybe when I finally leave Windows one day, I should switch to Mac and not Linux ;D. Thanks for the info, Caarrie :)

Hi there!
First sorry about my bad english, but I'm German.
When I start the PSclient.app there stands "You are not running the correct version of Planeshift. Please launch the updater."
I loaded down the updater and I changed the "false" in a "true". But it isn't working! ??? >:( :'( :@#\
Can somebody help me?
-
did you download the new updater then run it after you changed false to true?
-
No, it doesn't work! :'( :'( :'(

Ok, so I just recently purchased a mac so some things are still a little new to me. I tried really hard to do this by myself, I swear, but I finally gave up and am now asking for help :sweatdrop: .Anyways, I did everything right, I suppose, I ran the updater and a new .zip file appeared in my planeshift folder. I extracted all the items in the folder and then put them into the planeshift folder and tried running it, and i'll just say that it completely failed X-/ . I'm not exactly computer savy per say, I know my way around and I can take care of a computer, but if anybody knows what I did wrong then please could you point me in the right direction.
-
follow the directions to run the updater after enabling it in the updaterinfo.xml run the updater. then do _not_ do anything with the zip. then run the client if it does not work tell us what part exactly does not work.
