First Nero, I do disagree with you. The DR should be a long trip back. First to discourage ridicules amounts of PKing, and to punish you for bad mistakes. But it will also AFAIK also be expanded to make for more \"dead\" experiences. From what I know, there will be quests and other things to do down there in the future.

Also I would like too discourage you from the multiple account / characters thing. It\'s just bad form. Once you get a little more experience, one or two character you have invested some time in will be much more rewarding.

But mostly I would like to say that, contrary to the beliefs of some of the people in this forum, you are welcome here. Please accept my apology for some of the comments and accusations in this thread. If you spend much time here, you will notice the attitudes of some of the longer-term players. Please excuse them; they started out being left on the low end of other games where RP was set on the back burner, and came to this game because of that. But some have become over-zealous with that, and are highly territorial of this game. Some to the point of insults and what appears to be the \"legalized flaming\" in these threads to drive away people that are not \"their kind\".

Please keep in mind that this does not excuse behavior in this game that ruins the atmosphere for others. Please try to create a personality for your characters, stay in character when in the game, and do take advantage of doing more in this game than just leveling / PKing. And when you are comfortable and want to learn more about why some of these people are so passionate about the RP quality of this game, please ask.

Sounds kind of wierd...what\'s the apartment for anyway? You barely stay in it for Rping and fighting requires you to go elsewhere and just paying for not staying half the time makes you lose money fast. When you are not online, your char sort of disappears from server so there is no use for a hotel.

I should have clarified myself. This was in responce to having a place to store items, and as a way to keep the devs from having to place too many Houses, Mansions, and Castles. does that make more sence?

Sorry in advance, my spelling sucks an I\'m not on a computer with any thing to spell check with.

That is probably the most useful thing said in this thread. I agree with what you stated above, and will try to fulfill your request.

The reason I have the opinion that I do is that I cannot fathom having no clue to what the capabilities are of an item / own personal abilities, be that in a game or real life. I like it because this is how I determine the purchases in my own life. I prefer to have an idea of what something / myself can do so that I can make educated decisions before I act. You do make a very good point with;
Quote
I and many others find it unrealistic and even unpleasant because it took away colour from the game.

Yes, there are certain things in life and this game you won\'t / shouldn\'t know about. However, anyone that has ever read a product review knows that a system of evaluating strength / weaknesses for a product with a number system can be useful if done correctly. The reader has not seen and may not be able to put their hands on until after they order it. I see the same thing here. Would you like to know the true abilities of you and your weapon before, or after the death realm.

You do also make a good point with this statement;
Quote
A dagger is faster than a long sword by common sense, not by a factor of 1.5714285714285714285714285714286

It may be an exaggeration, but you are right in the fact that whittling this game down to calculator and #2 pencil would be a bad thing. But I would still like to see things listed out with fair accuracy. And I do like the present weight, speed, and damage system for all the reasons I discussed. And if given a chance to vote, that?s what I would vote for.

I also think that special weapons glowing (as mentioned earlier) is a good idea for magical ones, but puts a graphic strain that I don\'t think anybody wants to deal with until the code is more stable. Nor do I think mouse-over is a good idea yet (also suggested before), as it then leads to the question of wanting to look at someone else?s items. I don\'t want to cause a problem by fixing a different one...

But you do also suggest \"produce something new and useful\", so how about this for my second choice;

Remove the number system from view, but replace it with something else. Keep the same principal, but use a more generalized description. So instead of \"weight 4, speed 3, quality 1, damage 54 slash\", how about \"heavy sword, slow, good quality, massive slash, very low blunt\". There would be a spread of a few numbers for each level of description, so that daggers and short swords might be in the same weight category, but broadswords and long swords are together in another. This would still give people like me a good idea, but it would eliminate the absolute numbers for others. What do you think zanzibar? (And others)

And I am trying to say that I believe that they should be visible to players.
I am not accusing you of anything.
No, I don\'t know who you role play.

Zanzibar, I have a different opinion than you, why is everyone upset with that? As I said before, some of you guys really need to relax. Having a different opinion and stating it does not mean I am attacking you. Other than that last spat, I have no problem with you and think you have a right to express your opinion. Mine is just different.

We are trying to encourage it to be realistic, all your doing is telling the Dev\'s to add more numbers

No, I stated my opinion, and the Dev\'s will do what they want. All I am arguing for is to keep the numbers they have.

Since when does a sword have endurance?

Not realistic in the least, by looking at a weapon, we don\'t see numbers, we see how well-made it is.

Now, if you are done name calling and puffing out your opinions like so much gas, I would like to get back to the original discussion and the reasons I said what I did. If you would like to rephrase your argument to suit what is being said here about random weapon looting and the related topic of getting rid of absolute numbers, please feel free. If you have anything further to say about me or my opinions that is not informed, thought out, or related to the topic, please stop by the \"Dregan Tepis is an idiot\" thread.

That was more of a joke, not a destroyer. Boy, some of you people are really uptight, You should try to have more fun in your lives. Maybe try playing a game or something...

All I\'m trying to say is there is stats in real life. You are correct on your common sense theory. It is common sense that a race car is faster than a tractor. But how much faster is car A than car B? Why is it faster? What engine is the winner using? The same is true for physical characteristics. If swimmer A weighs 187.5 lbs, and swimmer B weighs 187.8, but shaves his body before a meet resulting in a loss of .8 lbs, and they have equal technique, strength, and stamina, who will win? And the same still applies for this sword is made of this, and therefore swings this much faster, and that is why I\'m staring down a gladiator for it. Or, if I put my characters limited time online in front of a creature I want the skin from for a quest, I for one want to know that XXXX amount of money I paid for XXXX sword of XXXX with XXXX encrusted handle was worth it. Or else it\'s just a miserable walk back from the death realm with a heavy sword.

Look, if your trying to encourage role play, I would highly suggest that you do it in another means than discouraging something people enjoy, and a good reason they came to this game (playing, killing). Maybe try to include them on hunts, and insist they come to the temple with you afterward to give thanks for a good hunt. Flirt more, drink more, whatever. But don\'t spend your time buzz killing the people who enjoy this game for different reasons than you. I\'ve seen a lot of good people leave this game because they didn\'t know squat about RP, and were driven away by elitist attitudes that said \"their kind shouldn\'t be here, because this isn\'t that type of a game\". I thank all that have taken time and been patient with me as I learned, and encourage more of you to do the same.

It\'s the way it was before the wipe.  But now, people just \"examine\" their weapons and instantly know exactly how their weapons behave.  I and many others find it unrealistic and even unpleasant because it took away colour from the game.

Ah yes, another \"good old days\" statement.

/me starts to feel sick....

Look, stats and numbers are there to visualize what cannot be seen in a game. And I would like to see a push in the other direction. The stats have been there since the early days from D&D. If you got a better way, by all means try it. But if you look at athletes, they know what they are capable of in terms of time, pounds, and distance. Why shouldn\'t we? A well-made weapon is better than a crap one. And considering how this is a fantasy game, then why would you want it to be more realistic? There should be god like weapons, rare and valuable. And there should be a minimum skill and strength to use it. But you should know what the weapon is capable of; it is that way in real life. I can tell a really good knife from looking at it. If you can\'t design a 3D image of what a fast sword looks like when it is not moving, then leave the stats alone. If you want realism, then go buy a sword instead of a computer to play this game.

And as far as \"get rid of random weapons\", if you kill something, you should get rewarded. Ok, you have a valid point with monsters carrying tria and weapons, unless they swallowed them from their last victim.

Ok, maybe this is more about the bad attitude towards power leveling. Fine, than make it a longer and harder process to level than it is now. Make the monsters appear randomly. And make the weapons you receive from a Rouge, ect. equal to what you are fighting ( you have to kill a rouge that hits for 250+ to get a fire broadsword ). But don\'t try to fix a problem with a solution that makes no sense.

Thanks Bereror! I will try that when I get home.

One question, willl that work with two weapons of diffrent names?

/me draws his weapons
/equip 1 fire broad sword
/equip 1 dark broad sword

If I get home and find out before this is replied to, I will edit to confirm.

I like that stfrn. But how would you write the shortcut for drawing weapons. I\'ve tried a couple of times, and it isn\'t working. Mabey I\'m naming my weapons wrong or something. Can you put in an example for us with a multi-segment named weapon? Like, fire broad sword? If nothing else so I can find my stupidity?

How about \"Maps to the stars graves\"?

Just kidding, I like the idea of being diffrent (ghost) in the death realm, and seeing spirits fly by.

Otherwise it\'s same case as with the silly damage weapons.

Drak, I like your idea, and there is more important thing this game needs instead of uber - weapons. But I think that your idea could be applied to uber-weapons (legendary) as well, as long as it\'s balanced.

What if we change the tone of this conversation from the \"best\" weapon, to more of \"the best at\"? What if the hardest hitting sword was magical but made out of paper and took 15 min to cast the spell to power it up? Then it could hit for 400 slash at .5 speed, but had a high failure rate and was useless until it was powered up again (15 min between hits, try power leveling like that!)

Or, what if we took your staff idea but made it so that it was easily damaged? We have seen many wizards? staffs broke in movies, and the wizard is defenseless afterward.

How about a shield that blocks EVERYTHING! The catch, it\'s so large you can only equip a very small weapon (dagger), not based on weight, but rather handling ability.

I\'m all for role playing first, but if you are going to fight for a living in this game, I would like to see it have to use some strategy and planning, and I think the above suggestions would help with that on the high end. The difference between now and then would be like checkers to chess. After all, once you quit thinking about what you want (uber-weapon) and start thinking about what you have to give up to use it, your mindset will change.

Or you will just go away. Either one works for me...

Now that the fight over naming convention has died down a bit, I completely agree with Draklar.

In fact, the only one I don\'t want to see is one for the Dwarfs ( either race ). Not that I have anything against them. But just like those tunnels in the dungeon ( mines / labyrinth, did I miss any names? ), I would like to be able to see whatever the Dev\'s add. As a Ynnwn, there\'s no way a dwarf could invite me into his home!
