After picking Dev\'s brains for hours, houses are going to be so super-mega-ultra-uber-expensive, the odds of getting one are going to be highly unlikely, and they\'ll likely be rented/leased.

It shouldn\'t degrade while you\'re offline, but during physical time connected.  That would be unfair.

There are systems being discussed, that make this quite feasible, practical, and I\'m all for it.  But with modifications.  There\'s some extra stuff at the top, obviously as it\'s part of a different thread... but for example...

For technicalities, from latin Draco, or Dracon, was used to describe any large serpent.  Not just limited to what we consider the traditional sense of the mythical beast usually represented as a giant, winged, bi-legged, or qudra-ped, fire-breathing reptile, that loved to hoard treasure.

Animal Planet  has been airing a thing on dragons... it was actually kinda cool.

The animations were incredible.  Sorry at little OT.

Common familiars in past games, were usually retained for Rangers, Druids, and Mages.

Mages could use them to aid them in spell casting, protection of an area (depending on the size), or to retrieve things from areas they could not go.  Something like a cat, would be able to go into obvious places we could not fit.

Or a fairy dragon, something like Carkass, could aid in combat, by spell use.

Familars are generally treated in such away by intelligence, and all relationships between master/servant were considered very much as equals.  So much so, that if the familar died, the bond between them wa so great, it causes pemanent loss of skills.

The talking features, I still think are great, this kind of spills into living items (talking swords), and dabbles into a couple other areas as well.  This is a great idea.

Rangers, were usually aided in combat, but a familiar in that sense, is not the traditional type, it could be a magical mount.  Think of Gandalf\'s horse, Shadowfax... but this types of mounts have also been reserved for the Paladin class.  Rangers, could have something like a pixie, gnome, or other small woodland creature, like a racoon, squirrel, or otherwise.

Mage familairs were usually magically summoned.  Where a ranger formed his bond through time naturally through gaining the animals trust.  Which falls into the \'animal trainer\' skillset.

This could get extremely complicated.  But is a traditional part of any good RPG.

** EDIT ** The most famous familiar I can think of, was the mechanical owl, from \'Clash of the Titans\'.  What a horribly cheesy movie, but was it ever cool when I was younger. ;)

It\'s all good man, I know that looks a little harsh, and everyone knows I\'ve been doing my own share of \'this is new\' rants.  And it\'s not.  I can\'t find a way to tag a thread for post in here.  Don\'t know what I\'m doing wrong.  But there\'s a lot of reading to tag trough, with a lot of novel posts by a lot of users.  Don\'t sweat it.... ;))

You\'re touching on leveling, economy, jobs, and the need for Player-to-Player involvement, instead of relying on NPC\'s... these are some threads to start from.  I know at first appearance when looking at them they don\'t look the same, but you put them all together, and add a few things in the progression of the thread, and \'yes\', this has been discussed before, just think splitting up ideas, it\'s a hard one for me, so it\'s cool.

It\'s just hard when ideas are fragmented.  ;) Now I know, not all of these existed when you wrote yours, but the \'Weapons are Rare\', \'When you talk to People\' threads are ancient, and there are other than do touch on what you were talking about.  Just start reading posts.  Titles is a bad way to go. ;( It took me a bit to get used to is well.

There are others, even I\'m a little lazy.  Peace man, seriously, no diss.  ;)  Just some of the long threads are like reading a small book, and those are threads we should be concentrating on.

The carts are about.  You\'re right.  Forgot about those.  Was trying to figure out if I could get creature to get stuck behind them, found the lamp posts/stick work just as well.

I get major lags walking through the door to enter than area, and a rogue you kills me, as  my HDD is chunking.  So I hadn\'t travelled that way in a bit.

I was getting way more complicated in my mind than what you were suggesting, effect of parital dreaming while one is awake.  It\'s cool man.

Yeah, it would be a texture change, I thought you were actually talking modelling ruts into the path way so they show up as divets.  ;) Weee... that\'s funny.

It\'s okay, we\'re all a little looney around here, it\'s what makes it fun.  Peace.

I vote we need to clean up the forums... I\'m posting off the stickies in the wish forum, not even noticing the sub-forum below.  ;)  And I\'m too lazy to double post novels.

I\'m for pickable... but lock picking should not be a random skill check.

/yeild... errr... I before E except after C... so that\'d be /yield.  Man I feel like idiot... was typing that in trying to figure out why it was complaining command doesn\'t exist. ;) lol.

I must be tired.

The mule, or pack animal ideas, are probably best.

Backpacks shouldn\'t be for carrying anything over say a short sword, or some gold or whatever, maybe some potions, extra flasks of oil, and food.  You may be able to carry an extra shield across your back which was quite common, as shields were cheaper than armour and helped prevent being \'backstabbed\', when you were to poor for a full breatplate, and set of mail.

I think the ultimate system, is Bigby\'s portable hole, inside a bag of holding.  And old D&D trick.  It would carry infinite items, and weighed nothing.

Pack animals were successfully implemented in Dungeon Siege.

Most of the systems pondered in the threads of this type are Diablo style, and it was sufficient to an extent.

But for a player to be able to carry 4 halbers, is insane.  It\'s not so much the weight, as the awkwardness.  Which has been brought up.

Different animals, or grades of pack animals could permit carrying more or less, I\'m all for those ideas as well.

Something like a mule, could no carry anywhere near as much as say an oxen, or an elephant.

If horses will be implemented, they can double as both, saddle satches and extra weapon rigging was quite common of battle horses.  But they were not so good with extra weight, as it defeated their purpose in battle.

This is kinda what I was thinking for the arena, or combat training.  As a means to train instead paying.  The winner would gain experience, while the loser just went home with a bloody nose.

It would be impossible to kill someone, just to bring them within an 1\" of their life.  Naturally they would have to let their health recover, for X amount of time, or they\'d likely just end up losing again.

I\'m all for PKing... under the right circumstances.  And this if it was exapanded to armed combat, would yeild essentially the same result.

With the 12 races, not sure if I read this somewhere in another thread, or dreamed about it, but I suspect in the final release there will be 12 towns, one for each race.  That would be the logical course of action.

With maybe some mixed towns and villages in between.

With that said, I suspect you\'ll start out in your chosen town.  Or based on what you selected during character creation.  There is a mild hint that this is what they have in mind, as you can state that you grew up in a different town during character creation, so it does, this or that for your character stats, and possibly will control where you start the game.

Having time pass... would require adding onto the aging discussion... It could implement an interesting adition to moon phases, or such.  After all, the moon even in life has an effect on all of us, and tides.

It was known for many years that patients during surgery would bleed heavier, or less depending on the moon phase.

That could be something, depending on birth dates and such, now you\'re getting into astrology.

or maybe, I\'m spinning too many new ideas.

I\'m getting so bored talking to myself... ;)
