To change to fullscreen or to window view use  pssetup  (in the planeshift installation directory). You can change a few graphic options too there.

If the necessary 32bit compatibility libraries are not installed and he's running a 64bit distro install then it will be a problem. The processor can handle 32 and 64 bit sure but the OS has to handle some of that.

Indeed, but what I find strange is the shell giving no messages about the issue (that is why I thought about the sudo's password, the system *could* be waiting for it) :)

Do you know what you installed koko?

That's the main question now. Koko, open a shell and type 'uname -r' and post the reply here :)

Code: [Select]
sudo ./PlaneShift-v0.4.00-x86.binoh dear nothing happens, i left it for ages and nowt happens :'(
i dont know if its something i did or didnt do and i wouldnt know where to start.

Uhmm ...no password request by sudo? Try to run it without it (enter the directory where the PS .bin is located and type ./PlaneShift-v0.4.00-x86.bin). The processor is fine, no issues for it :)
The difference will be that you'll not be able to install it systemwide but you can still install it in your home dir (ex : /home/koko/PlaneShift).

If you are really freaked out about it you might look into stow or something.

I have VirtualBox installed so I'll try to build the client there scheduled for the next weekend if I'll have free time. :)
*Crosses fingers thinking that something will happen for sure breaking his dream of free time*

Thanks for your time.

I think that 6.06 is too old to use the compiled binary since its compiled on much newer glibc.

The 6.06 is not so new for sure but still officially supported :)

You can try compiling from scratch.  I have a build guide for Ubuntu Dapper found here:
http://vaalnor.mine.nu/psdoc/?q=node/14
Let me know if you have any issues with it.

Thanks for the link I'll give it a try :)

EDIT: Yikes, files that needs to be expanded in the root, tons of packages to install. I'm sorry but I prefer to keep my installation as much clean as possible. Pity. If I'll find a machine I can use I'll install the 6.06 there and I'll try.

I hope this helps a few people out! Questions, comments, etc are welcome.

Nice guide but, as I said in the installer feedback thread, on my 6.06LTS the installer exits after the language selection with no words.

[repost ...done it in the wrong place]

Greetings,
i was trying to install PS 018 on an Ubuntu 6.06 LTS using the installer but i've had problems:
the installer starts normally and asks me everything like usual but when it wants to start the 'real' installation (file copy) the process exits and creates a dumpfile.

I've tried to run it with sudo and to create the PlaneShift dir manually but nothing changed. It's a known issue? How can i fix it?

Thanks.

I miss the days when the only monsters to kill was rats and tefusangs
I miss the day that i've found, thanks to friends, the entrance to the Laanxdungeon where there was a thug dropping broadswords
I miss the day the rats starts to drop falchions (Steel, Silver, Gold ones)
I miss the day Harnquist got killed and we had no possibility to sell loot for a while
I miss the day when Sir Bodacher moved from 'up the barrel' to 'into the barrel'
I miss the day when Talad and friends used to show off in the plaza their powers
I miss the day when i was in the arena and i've killed a mercenary passing by and i've looted an incredible axe (first special weapons we had)
I miss the days when most of us used to play games around (hide&seek, treasure hunt, etc)
I miss the days when at least one GM was always in front of Harnquist to teach to newcomers
And i miss Sir Golmir, Sir Sensotaka, Lady Milana and all the Defenders i've met

It was not right of him to drop silverweaves in the middle of the plaza. He is not going to get the "your a hero" reward. There were many other ways this bug could have been reported to the Dev's and Gm's. If one failed then try another. Just don't give up at one and take matters into your own hands. He got the punishment he deserved. Period.

I can only agree about this. We had similar problems in the past, like the 'outstanding slash' sword i still remember that was able to fix your trias problem for a long time if sold. The problem usually is about who find a bug first.  So let me say one last thing:
Everyone who discover a serious bug *please* report it immediatly and never spoke about it around too much (or never do it). Contact GMs and Devs, PM them, rush the IRC...go to their home and poke them personally. But try not to spread the issue around. If this bug has been around since December and people have spoken about it around than there's nothing we can do to prevent a wipe.

Worry about the economy once people are able to craft iron weapons.  Until then, we're living in the moment.

A really long moment afaicr :)
To craft Iron weapons will not fix the problem ...there will be always people killing an easy gradiator for a loot from 300 to 2000 or so trias. Forgot to mention (again) that easy gradiators/rogues are part of the problem too.

24 hours after Eid's escapade, the duplication bug was fixed. A few hours after that, the mini-wipe got rid of most of the ill-gotten gains from the bug. Now, I see more people mining again, and looting rogues and gladiators again. Things seem to finally be back to normal, and the economy back on track.

[i'm not complaining, i don't want to flame, etc....]

If we have to assume that to see so many newcomers killing gladiators with one hit of their new deserved sw weapons....than it's all back to normal. And, maybe, most of them will repair them too really fast when the quality will drop...

[propositive part]

As i said in another post if we want to change the economy seriously we need to change the prices of weapons and ores around. A strange cap will not fix it.
A gladiator that most of the players can kill drops weapons up to 2000 or so trias....an ulber heart is 560 trias.

As a member of the Dragon Council and as someone who's been playing the game for a considerable period of time, I can understand why you feel you're at a level above the rest of the player base, but I also think it's pretty silly and unjustified.

Vue that you stated that 'people around thinks to me as a god' i can only remain in a level down than your  Shalmaneser

Please lock this thread...that is not what i wanted to discuss here. Thanks to the people that changed a serious propositive post into a mess.
