"Failed to locate Sound renderer!" -- Please check in the PlaneShift launcher if the Audio system is set to "OpenAL", and you may need to install an OpenAL driver (usually oalinst.exe at Creative).

I tried that already before making this post. I just tried it again now. When installing oalinst.exe and clicking through it just gives me a message installation successful. This raises the question why is a sound render being loaded when I specifically disabled sound in the first place? The most it should do in that case is load a null sound device or something to that affect.

Since you had problems updating for privilege permissions, I'd recheck all directories of the game, granting full access permissions to the user.
I assume you also tried to reinstall after the permission problems...?

I don't think this is a permissions issue. I've already ran both psclient and pslauncher as an admin.

you said openal is already installed, but was it selected in audio system configuration?

That's the default initial selection on install. I've also tried changing it to software and and with no sound as mentioned uptop.

I had a similar problem when i got my new computer with the 64-bit version of Windows 7.  I tried both 32-bit and the 64-bit and I was able to get the 64-bit version of PS to run eventually by messing with the settings.  My current settings are:
Color Depth: 32
Anti-aliasing: 2xQ
Anisotropic Filtering: 2x
Texture Quality: Medium
Shaders: Low
shadows, bloom, hdr, grass, weather, vbo, loader cache are all unchecked
Background Loading: Off
Particles: Medium

thanks for suggestion, I just tried it with those settings -- still no dice.

I noticed the 64-bit version doesn't have the popup dialog 'Planeshift has quite unexpectedly!' that tries to send a report. The 32-bit does have it though. The 32-bit version also erroneously thinks my client version is < 0.5.3 for the 'Report upload successful.' dialog. In both cases it always stops at the same spot. I've also tried clicking repair from the launcher and everything seems to check out.

For those wondering here is the full console output up to the point of crashing.

Here's my system setup:
 intel Q6600 quad core
 nvidia GTS 250
 4gig ddr2 ram
 windows 7 64-bit edition

After downloading ps client from the site and installing it, I ran pslauncher.exe and performed the update. I had initial issues with the update failing because of admin privels. After the update, I ran psclient.exe log into my account, created a character and finally clicked play. The game starts loading and then when it gets to the end it just shuts down the client unexpectedly. Here's what the errorlog.txt shows:

Sun Nov 28 04:40:52 2010, Failed to locate Sound renderer!

I've tried both versions 32-bit and 64-bit as some reported better luck with the former. I ran into the same issues with both versions of the client. Note I also have openal downloaded already from testing another project so that is already installed on my machine. I have also tried going into the audio settings and just plain disabled audio and sound by unchecking the box. Still the same problem.

As a player and user of this software I have already done all I possibly can in getting this game to work. I've scoured through this board and it seems a couple others have ran into the same symtoms as I but none of the suggested have resolved this problem I'm running into. I have ran numerous games on this machine without problems, both newer latest and greatest as well as older type games. None of them have problems like this and I am positive this is not a driver issue.

I'm about ready to uninstall this unless someone can offer some suggestions on what is likely wrong.

I have that same problem when walking into the temple and going down the well. Is there going to be any fix for this soon?

Thanks

ok hopefully my screenshots are finally getting through and I don\'t have to go looking for another host again. haha.

Yup, looks like you\'re having the same problem as me. I notice that it helps if I turn vertex buffer off under ps settings though.

I do notice another problem though, not sure if it\'s related to those funny shaped polygons: when I enter the dungeon I notice some clipping issues where there\'s a repeated pattern all over the screen. Best way to describe it is think original Doom with no clipping code and you walk through a wall. It seems to only happen when I go down the dungeon entrance. Once I\'m inside the dungeon it disappears. It seems this glitch is most likely to show up during environment map transitions like for example town to dungeon, stairs inside tower going to top of tower etc.

I\'m confused.

The problem I\'m referring to is in the last screenshot I posted. There\'s a bunch of long streaks of wierd shapes in black, blue, and pink colors. If you can\'t see in that screenshot I\'ll outline and highlight the sections in red so you know where it is.

Oh, I took Tang Ernie\'s suggestion and posted this one up on the forum too. Is anyone else having this problem also? I\'m using a ATI 9800 w/ Radeon 9800 2.5.67 drivers.

Thanks

Yes, those are all possible solutions but it\'s not good for your eyes. I turned down the brightness on my monitor for a reason. So far the only game I\'ve encounter that\'s giving me a hard time to see in the dark is PS. :(

Just a quick question. I know the sewers and deathrealm are suppose to be dark and all but is it really suppose to be this dark? It\'s to the point where I can\'t even see where I\'m going and my char itself is pitchblack. Is this how it looks like from everyone else\'s setup?  ?(

Thanks

are you talking about crystal space? I think the module for that is CS. Just browse the CVS repository on sourceforget and look

that\'s true but I\'m still getting an error when I try to downoad the source tree using tortoisecvs.

Code: [Select]

Error, CVS operation failed

I know this use to work just fine before.

Actually, you got me wondering about something. Why can\'t you compile PS under Dev-C++? As I recall, it\'s using the same gcc compiler as mingw afterall. And I thought there would be a few develops on the PS project that\'s using Dev-C++ or are you all using MSVC?
