Asheron\'s Call did have alcohol, but it didn\'t make the character drunk or anything.

Well I agree on one concept, in many games why bother cooking when you can buy food from a vendor?  But many times it\'s a lot cheaper with game money to buy the stuff to cook from scratch yourself.  By making food yourself, your cooking skill will increase.

Cooks can be very valuable for quests when gamers have to either make their own stuff for quest items or pay game money to someone else who can do it for them.

Also cooks (in other games) can make more powerful food than what the vendors provide.

Well I can just imagine being in a city selling some loot and then a whole hoard of undead appear and attack.

I think it would be a ton of fun!  Think of the screenshots that would appear on the fan/guild sites!

Has anyone discussed the trade skill of cooking yet?

If not, I thought it would be a good idea to start coming up with ideas for cooking, and link it all in with the game lore.

Are you meaning an entire silo for storing stuff for every player or a group-type thing?

For solo storing you use \"mules\" or house with chests, or in some games, a bank.

Seems to me a community storing system would become a constant strain and would cause too many fights in-game.  Not worth the trouble in my opinion.

Wish list / Surprise Attacks

In a few online games I\'ve played, I have noticed that most of the time, you go into town to do business and everyone is free from monsters.

Why not a few times a year have a massive surprise attacks on the cities?

You can vary the city and monster, but it should occur on a regular enough basis to make everyone want to stay on their toes.

In addition, incorporate the surprise attacks within the game lore.

1.  Take axe, target tree
2.  You will receive x logs
3.  Axe to logs again to create planks
4.  Click on planks and choose from menu which item you wish to make (may choose to incorporate macro/hotkey program in game)
5.  Success rate depends upon skill level

Now the amount of wood you might be able to get from a tree should depend on the program choosing trees at random, no matter what their graphical representation is, and you cut and cut a tree and the amount will vary each time.   After a tree is harvested it will regenerate in x hours.

You could cut a dead tree as well as a live one for wood.  This would be good in areas in the game that portray pestilence and the trees are all dead, but a lone carpenter still likes his woodwork...  LOL

If you have Poser or Bryce, check http://www.renderosity.com

They have lots of freebie 3d models, most with textures but some without.

I\'ve seen some awesome crystal shapes at RO.

The REALLY important items I speak of are quest items.  Things you go looking for that enhance your character beyond normal high things you find off a monster.  This way people can\'t cheat with quests.  Once it\'s done it\'s done and it is staying in your backpack until you delete your character.  Well, maybe not forever.  In Asheron\'s Call you could get rid of no-drop items by giving them to the Town Crier NPC.

But personally, I don\'t see what the need is to sell non-tangible items online for real money, when those items could pop up for anyone at anytime in game, depending on the loot-o-meter.  Or if the magic system in Planeshift is going to be anything like Asheron\'s Call, there\'s no need to go buying and selling high items.  You just buff up the armor and weapons you want and sometimes those perform better in game than some quest items!  Granted, they are only temporary improvements.

Another idea:  Just save them up in your inventory or mules and use to give to others in your guild that have advanced and need armor/weapon upgrades.

A good way to keep items from appearing on Ebay is to make the special weapons/armor/anything UNDROPPABLE.  If there are houses in the game, make them untransferrable.

The only things that can be removed from inventory in the game are readily available items, like herbs, cheaper equipment, loot, etc.

I was an unfortunate victim of hacking while playing UO.  My rare items in the game were sold on Ebay for a total of more than $500.00 US.  It was a sad situation.

Race-specific weapons can be excellent, especially when it gives a higher protection and/or hit points at a lower skill requirement.

On the other hand it is a pain in the arse to pick up an awesome item only to discover that it\'s not for your race.   But then there\'s always trading in game and sharing equipment within guilds.

Yep I guess so...

Like I told someone else, I just don\'t want to come up with some ideas and come to find out I was way off base or that it had already been implemented.

But unfortunately, my knowledge comes from 3D art and stories, not proramming so the open source doesn\'t do much for me LOL.

Wow that\'s me too, although I would add (if I could), bow, fletching and a bit of magic, like for buffing.  I like to be the type of character that stays out of towns in order to be pretty self sufficient and stay close to the hunting action, unless I need supplies.
