General Discussion / Re: Updates on Planeshift?

You don't actually play Planeshift and you track it since 2002? What are you waiting for? Beta? 1.0?

You won't find an early-alpha MMO project that is nearly as full-featured as Planeshift. Come on in; the water is fine and getting finer.

Well, I've downloaded it 3 times during that time.  It looks good, and I'm impressed with the progress, but yeah, I'm waiting for beta.

What's the easiest way to stay up-to-date on the newest versions of Planeshift without visiting the site everyday?  Is there an RSS feed I can subscribe to?

most of the time if you need to update there will be a message when you connect to the server and there is no RSS feed

Yeah, I don't actually play Planeshift.  I've been tracking it for a long time though, been a member here since 2002.

I could possibly help with the setup.  Although my skills are limited, here is a page I recently done http://www.hubfirst.com

yeah, AC uses a system much like this where skills are increased the more you use them, but skills do not go up with levels.  Skill credits (to buy more skills) go up about every 4 levels or so.

I just re-read this and noticed something, if skills won\'t be able to be increased with xp\'s, what will getting xp\'s be good for?

yes, I was referring to the horse-drawn wagon comment, and all of those like it.  Sure, people will play it, but it will get old fast.

realistic medieval?  Do you really think anyone will play that?  Magic needs to be heavily involved to improve gameplay.  Maybe decrease a mage\'s fighting power and increase his communication and teleportation powers to balance the character templates.

well, things like these are relative to every game, but I just think slow transportation or only local communication will be bad for the game.  But obviously, these things can probably be better decided once a demo is released.

What about telekinesis for communication through a chat window, and a skill can be taken to talk long distances.  And for transportation, what about powerful portals at different places throughout the world created by powerful wizards long ago.

thanks for the replies, this was always a hot topic in Asheron\'s Call.  XP distribution and the loot system seemed to always be out of whack.  And by that, I mean, half of the players complained, the other half cheered.
