General Discussion / Re: Dryken Plane, again...
« Last post by Talad on August 29, 2024, 12:07:08 am »
At the moment I'm thinking to something like this:

We will remove the sense of urgency, and any timings. We will remove the doors, and the level will be explorable without constraints.

When you arrive in the Dryken Plane (DP) a cinematic of your character in front of the portal with normal skin , then particle effect to show your essence shatters in small pieces scattered around the plane, then your skin becomes dark, drained of energy.

3-eyed creature you can speak with him along the journey. New dialogues should unlock based on the location, explaining what you saw up to that point (new elements)

You find magical places in the plane, where two shards are rotating (purple and blue, similar to the one we have in the DP now). You may hear a voice “Those are personality shards, pieces of your soul or other people's souls. You should choose the one that’s yours and reconstruct your original essence.

You have choice to make for each pair of shards you find around the plane.

These are the couples I have at the moment:
Social | Solitary
Bold | Cautious
Organized | Creative
Lawful | Rebellious
Impulsive | Thoughtful

There is another one I'm not very convinced of, as it's less of a personality and more of a lifestyle: Physical Strength | Mental Strength ( Mind | Body )

When you pick one should give you a bit of a text like: "You see yourself being more social and open to relations, ... bla bla bla..."

As soon as you pick one, your body starts to reconstruct (for now will probably be just the color from dark to normal)
To exit the final portal you will have to pick all the shards (one per pair)

Thoughts?

Hello,

Time for some new input, methinks...
@Talad: You say, "Keep the ideas coming."

But in this thread you were only commenting on Damola's posts (which had plenty of interesting ideas), but you did not react to what Volki and I wrote.
I know you have issues with Volki, but this post was really good, maybe Volki's best post ever, and therefore deserves a reaction.

I like you guys trying to discuss and give your impression, I read your message but I think it still remains a bit generic. About Volki's post, it's mostly questions, and anyway I'm not taking very seriously feedback from people who didn't even try to experience in game the Dryken Plane.

About having a simplified version of the Dryken plane, I would rather have a more enjoyable one. A place where you have more things to see and do. What can we add? What lore pieces can we convey and how? Should there be more NPCs to talk to (in Stonelabyrinths as well)? What should they say?

About the drops in the SL, those are already there since last release. There are 6 one-way drops, making the navigation way simpler.

Hello,

@Talad: You say, "Keep the ideas coming."

I know you have issues with Volki, but this post was really good, maybe Volki's best post ever, and therefore deserves a reaction.

(@Volki: This post had nothing of "I told you before" or "I always knew better", no personal insults, no bullshit, just facts and good comments. You can, if you want!)

What concerns the basic ideas of my original post, I still believe they are valid and can be integrated easily in the background story, but before I give it more thought for details I would appreciate some feedback. It does not make sense for me to spend more time on this if you or others disagree from the start.

Finally, I like a lot your ideas about the one-way drops to make things easier for confused newbies. As I said, let's make it more simple in the start, and use more complex and difficult instances later.

Thank you all for reading, and please keep input coming!

Travel safely,

Gonger

General Discussion / Re: Let's get ancient players back...
« Last post by gonger on August 22, 2024, 10:54:09 am »
Hello,

It seems nobody has anything else to add, and there was nothing that really said, "Don't do this."
Just a few quick answers to points mentioned by others:

  • If somebody is no longer interested in PlaneShift, they will simply delete one or two mails and be done with it. Nobody will be spammed.
  • Old relationships (friend or foe) can be renewed, or restarted. Imagine meeting someone in RL after a couple of years. You both have evolved in this time, and therefore things between you might be different now.
  • Active stories - of course right now there are few of them. But the more active players there are, the more active stories there will be. And, as pointed out quite correctly, we have the weekly RP events run by Uadjet. Also consider that in the long run more players will mean more Developers, more Game Masters, etc.

So are we going to do this now, or not?

Gonger

Uadjet:  Hello, and welcome to the Developer's Q&A!
Uadjet:  Everyone here knows how it works, so no need to explain.
Damola:  Any news?
Uadjet:  It's a good thing you mentioned that you couldn't see me.
Uadjet:  Being invisible would have completely ruined my plan to conduct this meeting through semaphore.
Gonger:  Hehehe
Gonger:  And next time in morse code?
Rykia:  Hi everyone.
Uadjet:  Heh, we'll see how long that goes on before someone dusts off the "Emergency Break" procotol for GMs.
Damola:  Need a break, Uadjet?
Damola:  Kga, Gova.
Uadjet:  Nah, that's what to do when a GM either loses it or starts abusing their power.
Uadjet:  They did mention a former GM applicant who tried to give their player character more tria. No names, but it happened.
Gonger:  Utter disgrace!
Uadjet:  My response was something like: "Tria? That's the least valuable thing in the game!"
Anysu:  Thank you for being awesome GM Uadjet!
Damola:  While still maxing out a char tria can be sparse, but after that. you just keep collecting it without paying a lot for anything.
>Anysu waves at Thosor
Rykia waves back
Anysu:  Done
Uadjet:  text waves back.
Uadjet:  Yeah, /impersonate is still bugged.
Thosor:  Don't give problems with too much tria talk here in this govt building...
Thosor:  They'd be glad to ask more taxes.
Uadjet:  Okay, so Talad has finished this round of texture and mesh improvements for characters.
Uadjet:  There will no doubt be more adjustments, and maybe even another round of upgrades, but I think he's done for now.
Uadjet:  He's still working on race-specific weapons.
Uadjet:  Those at yesterday's event should hopefully be aware of the new klyros dagger.
Uadjet:  If not, check your inventory!
Anysu:  still need robe, chain, leather,  and plate to be seen on female Ylian.
Rykia:  Maybe even a long hairstyle like before too. ;-)
Thosor:  And a sore back?
Anysu:  That to Rykia!!
Gonger:  The Hookknife.
Gova:  I don't suppose we could steal the hair meshes from BG3? ;)
Rykia:  Nice looking dagger
Uadjet:  Yeah, the sixth word in that question implies the answer.
Anysu:  Want to get my paws on that new enki blade!
Anysu:  Nice meshes there Gova!
Uadjet:  There are some new tools for blender that make hair easier to do, if anyone wants to check it out.
Uadjet:  As for the new weapons and shields, Talad has plans for just about every race to get their own, unique style.
Uadjet:  Nolthrir get galkards, which already exist.
Uadjet:  You've seen the Klyros dagger, but not the sword.
Uadjet:  I'll try to get some basic, unenchanted items out there, for players to see.
>Anysu cheers happily!
Uadjet:  I'm not sure if they'll be made craftable any time soon, but Talad does have a plan to make them more regularly available.
Uadjet:  I think Kran eyes are a work in progress. They currently have a rather intense stare, that was freaking me out during the event yesterday.
Thosor:  Like eyes after a long night...
Anysu:  creepy...
Rykia:  Pupils seemed pretty tiny
Uadjet:  They're fracture patterns, not pupils, so the central point is no thicker than the lines. I think.
Thosor:  Good for reFRACTing light.
Uadjet:  He's wanting to will the furnished towns. Delver has NPCs, but the quests aren't added yet. Well, one is, but it's just a means of getting players to Delver.
Uadjet:  Once the Observatory quests are in, I'll do some Essential Trail quests. Many of those involve Delver, given that it's a good place for fishing, hunting, and farming.
Uadjet:  Homestead needs people. There's one merchant there, and that's it.
Uadjet:  Raurim only has the small huts, so it's not really ready to populate. I might be adding a lumberjack there, as well as one outside Hydlaa.
Gonger:  The more the merrier.
Gonger:  I still like my idea of the meta quest "Create a NPC".
Uadjet:  And there are plenty of other towns that don't even have a marker, like Kormia or Hetsan.
Anysu:  Does Kormia and Hetsan have an actual map/place to go?
Uadjet:  Well, the locations exist, but there's just grass and trees there.
Uadjet:  Kormia and Homestead swapped places at some point.
Anysu nods
Uadjet:  There are some very basic buildings in the Diaboli style that existed where Homestead was planned to be, but they were removed at around the same time as the giant floating spheres.
Uadjet:  Thosor?
Thosor:  I have asked about bugs, then told they are in the bugignorer, um tracker. examples:
Thosor:  7859 chat scroll, 7589, interface buttons like timestamp do not stick.
Thosor:  For a couple cycles, I think, are older ones looked over?
Gonger:  I think there are so many bugs that Talad works on whatever pleases him most at the moment.
Uadjet:  I don't think they're looked over, but there is quite the list on the bug tracker and Talad only has so much time. Something like the settings not being saves is annoying, but not especially critical.
Thosor:  ok, just I don't get logging if I forget to timestamp.
Uadjet:  Talad also showed a new creature that's planned for the future. It's something purchased in the marketplace and then edited..
Uadjet:  I think it's planned for the desert area past Oja.
Uadjet:  That's a great area to populate with critters and maybe an Enki village/camp.
Thosor:  Is it edible? Does it want to be eaten?
Anysu:  Showed? Is a picture someplace?
Uadjet:  We have sand arangmas, which could go there. And Talad has a scorpion model that could be added and made into windscorpions.
Uadjet:  It's a 3D model in the latest stream on youtube and twitch.
Thosor:  Wind scorpions, eek!
Anysu:  Hunting camp sounds like a good idea,
Uadjet:  I don't know if it'll drop meat or not. Honestly I think PS is mostly a game for vegetarians. Trepor heart? Coamti tongue? Not especially tasty.
Anysu:  Nice if can make poison  from that stinger of scorpian.
Thosor:  Serve in the restaurant at the end of the dome.
Thosor:  The stinger could be a weapon component to loot.
Damola:  Time for me.
Damola:  Thanks for the updates.
Uadjet:  I think I've covered everything, other than my repeatedly trying to be clever in quest writing and then having to revert to a previous version when cleverness fails. :)
Uadjet:  Any last questions?
Thosor:  no questions, Your Honor
Gonger:  Thanks for the updates.
Gonger:  Don't forget to leave the building before quitting.
Gonger:  That is a bug I would like to see fixed...
Anysu:  Thanks for update
Thosor:  doesn't bother me, I just fall a short bit.
Rykia:  Always nice ot hear about the progress being made in PlaneShift thanks to all those who volunteer their time.
Thosor:  Thanks, all.

Uadjet:  Hello and welcome to the Developer's Q&A! This is an out-of-character meeting where you can hear about the development of the game and ask the Dev and GM teams any questions you might have. If you do have any questions, please line up at the lecterns in front of the stage.
Uadjet:  If there are no immediate questions, I'll give a quick recap.
Uadjet:  Talad's been working steadily on improving character models and textures.
Uadjet:  Well, more than that. He's working on rigging too.
Uadjet:  It's the same as rigging on a ship, really, which is why the same term is used.
Uadjet:  While ships use ropes and cables to control the movable parts of the ship, the rigging in 3D models is the 'bones' set up to control how a character moves.
Uadjet:  Talad has posted some of the improvements in Discord, if you're curious.
Anysu:  Saw enki head!
Uadjet:  Yeah, he's worked on the Enki textures too.
Anysu:  Saw the texuring on enki in stream of fur!
Thosor:  Yes, furry people can have a fuzzy naval now...
Uadjet:  We're slowly getting upgraded to fancier versions of what we currently are.
Anysu cheers for fur
Uadjet:  That includes adding robes, for the race/gender combos that don't currently have them.
Anysu:  Hopefully the Ylian female wlill get armor and robes.
Uadjet:  Yeah, that's the model that Talad purchased from... cgtrader? I don't recall exactly, and I can't find the link now.
Gonger:  But it would also be nice to see things fixed like twirling feet (after TP), or speech bubbles...
Uadjet:  Turbosquid. That's where it's from.
Anysu nods at Gonger
Anysu:  Nice to have actual Ylian female now.
Uadjet:  For the twirling feet, I did look into (aka google) that a while back. It could be that our skeletons lack a few of the bones that the IK was designed for. I'm not sure if tha's it, though, as that issue seems to cause feet to twist but not spin constantly.
Gonger looks down at his feet.
Uadjet:  And it seems inconsistent. Not everyone sees the same thing, which is baffling. We're all using the same client versions. Next time it happens, let's compare OS's.
Gonger:  My impression was that people see themselves differently than others see them.
Gonger:  Like, I never saw my feet spin, but others told me they did spin.
Anysu nods at Gonger
>Thosor nods at Gonger.
Uadjet:  Yes, that's what I've heard. There's also the legs trailing behind issue.
Uadjet:  That looks like an IK issue too, where the feet are having trouble finding the ground. But why do some clients see that and not others?
Thosor:  I've noticed NPC legs trailing, recently.
Gonger:  I even saw a long-legged NPC recently...
Gonger:  Multiple evidence :)
Anysu:  Yet only see it on players when we are tped.
Anysu:  At least what I have seen.
Gonger:  True, that.
Uadjet:  Yes. Let's get this written down. The more clues we have, the easier this will be to solve.
Gonger:  Imagine how this looks on a stream for the outside world...
Uadjet:  True.
Thosor:  now, NPCs teleport themselves at times. maybe then they get trailing legs?
Uadjet:  That's a thought.
Uadjet:  I wish /percept worked, as then I could teleport NPCs and force them to walk.
>Anysu nods at Thosor.
Uadjet:  I don't think I've seen it on non-playable races. They don't have the same skeletons, or the IK system.
Thosor:  I know I've seen it on Hydlaa guards.
Thosor:  And I think the gov't woman while they were walking.
Uadjet:  Okay, that's good to know.
Anysu:  Well if non-playable races do not have it..solution. We all need to be monster races!
Uadjet:  You first!
Thosor:  Monster shredder.
Anysu:  lol
Uadjet:  As for me, I'm trying to wrap up the set of quests I've written. I'm checking them for errors, and seriously regretting the complexity of some of them.
Anysu:  I knew it... minute I typed it
Uadjet:  Had to do it. :)
Anysu:  Kikiri in chain. Fear my talons and beak of death
Thosor whacks it with a kikiri-on-a-stick.
Anysu nips Thosor's finger
Thosor:  It is padded, not to hurt.
Anysu:  Chain color looks good though on kikiri
Anysu:  Monster curse day is months away
Thosor:  Staff is good for practice jousting...
Uadjet:  I do have dozens of items to plan out, but I've got most of the work done on that already. No new art needed.
Uadjet:  Oh, good. Found my item list in Notepad++. Was worried there for a minute.
Uadjet:  So the Observatory quests need a little work, some items, and two small map setups. Just a few items, and maybe a cow.
Uadjet:  Oh, and a couple criter spawns.
Uadjet:  I've also worked on a few other ideas that I'll run past Talad, like a merchant syndicate for Amdeneir that'll be an alternate path to Winch access.
Anysu:  Nice to have another path to Winch
Uadjet:  I got nothing done in the last week, unfortunately. The AC went out, and it sapped my ability to accomplish anything other than keeping people cool . It got up to 88?F/31?C in the house.
Gonger:  Yep... that's global warming for everybody...
Anysu:  Eeeekkk hot!
Gonger:  How does your mother handle this?
Uadjet:  Fortunately it was only a contactor that needed replacing, but for some reason I insisted on verifying that before ordering anything. As I couldn't work on live electronics ourdoors while it's raining or there's lightning nearby, that caused a bit of a delay.
Uadjet:  And then Amazon thinks that 'overnight delivery" means 48 hours...
Thosor:  Check the motor capacitors while your at it for prevention.
Uadjet:  She was okay. I set up an ice fan and a little mister to help her stay cool.
Thosor:  Amazon long ago dropped overnight, mainly overweek now...
Gonger:  I had a product delivery postponed... new provisional delivery date: May 15 - September 28
Uadjet:  Yeah, the capacitor is showing its age, but it's still working. I'm ordering a spare capacitor and another contactor to have handy if it fails again.
Uadjet:  They're cheap parts, fortunately.
Thosor:  back here, is there a way to make the interface setting time stamp button stick?
Uadjet:  Maybe $30 total for both.
Uadjet:  Yeah, that's one of the settings that doesn't stick around, like the interface settings.
Uadjet:  That's a client-side fix, I assume.
Thosor:  Anything that can be put in local config file?
Uadjet:  That's on the bugtracker, FS#7589.
Thosor:  oh, so it is listed, good.
Uadjet:  I don't see any config files for that, unfortunately.
Thosor:  ok, I think I won't log unless I set to timestamp.
Thosor:  I want timestamps always anyway...
Thosor:  I think my porg is about done...
Anysu:  Anymore news?
Uadjet:  No, I think that's it. Any questions?
Thosor:  No questions, Your Honor
Uadjet:  Then I think we can bring the meeting to a close.
Uadjet:  Thank you all for coming, and I'll see you all here again in two weeks!

Uadjet:  So, hello and welcome to the Developer's Q&A! It's an OOC meeting where you can hear about what's happening behind the scenes, and ask any questions you have. If you have a question, please line up at the lecterns in front of the stage.
Uadjet:  If there aren't any questions yet, I'll give a quick overview of what's happening.
Koraza:  No questions from me.
Uadjet:  First, Talad mas made a system where players can adopt an NPC and voice their dialogue.
Uadjet:  That's at: https://game.planeshift.it/voiceovers/
Gonger:  I checked the website, and did not really understand how this is supposed to work...
Gonger:  Maybe it has been updated since.
Uadjet:  Well, at a glance you can choose the Responses header at the top and filter by species/gender. That'll give you NPCs and the Knowledge Areas.
Gova:  How much did I miss?
Uadjet:  I just mentioned the new voiceover site Talad made: https://game.planeshift.it/voiceovers/
Anysu:  Wierd I do not see Gova
Gonger:  I will check this out again.
Gonger:  Gova is up there.
Anysu:  Okay, fogot to look up.
Uadjet:  Honestly for a second I  thought you meant the voiceover site, Anysu.
Uadjet:  I was thinking: "Why would he be on that site
Uadjet:  You can't voiceover Gova!
Uadjet:  Or other players.
Gova:  Can I get Tim Curry to voiceover me?
Anysu:  Nope just could not see Govw. Just saw the text.
Gonger:  Oh, and if you think your voice sounds weird on recordings, this is normal. Everybody thinks so because we normally hear our own voice not through our ears, but more through the skull bones. So when we hear our voice from a recording, we find it very strange...
Thosor:  If you want to deepen your voice, get a microphone that has a bad proximity effect and speak closely,.Heil is one...
Uadjet:  That's very true. It's like... I'm dating myself here, but it's like when you'd call your own home to leave a message with information you don't want to lose, like the phone number of someone you just met and would like to talk to again. ;)
Uadjet:  The voice that answers never sounds like your own.
Gonger:  Exactly, Uadjet.
Uadjet:  The headers on that page are pretty easy to understand. Instructions os obvious, and a good read. There are some useful links on that page too.
Uadjet:  The Responses header is not a part of a quest, but the result of asking the NPC a question. Things like "about you", "how are you", and so forth.
Uadjet:  It varies a lot, but most NPCs should have some kind of response to Greetings, About you, and  How are you.
Uadjet:  People who trend towards verbosity - like me - will add more.
Uadjet:  The people at the Observatory, for example, have responses for  the Observatory, Appliede Knowledge, all of the other people at the observatory, as well as topics that are personal to them and were mentioned in a response to one of the above questions.
Uadjet:  Just a hint: Ask about offal or offal pie.
Uadjet:  So anyone can contribute to the voiceover site.
Uadjet:  Just log in with your game email and password.
Uadjet:  It's likely best to focus on one NPC (or one at a time), and do both quest and responses for them. That way it's consistent.
Gonger:  Yes, if you do it, do it right.
Gonger:  Unless you are a master of accents and intonation...
Uadjet:  We can't be too far away from software that changes the accent in recorded speech.
Uadjet:  But I don't think it's available today.
Uadjet:  Well, maybe we are. I did a quick google, and there are options available.
Uadjet:  I haven't tested them out, but there are some free options that could be useful.
Uadjet:  I don't know if any have a Count von Count option.
Koraza:  Sesame Street Count?
Gonger:  Never heard of this. What is it?
Uadjet:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2AoxCkySv34
Uadjet:  But yeah, it's Sesame Street. :)
Anysu:  He is a vampire that counts.
Uadjet:  I'm just imagining  Talad's response to my trying to sneak that one past him.
Anysu:  Children show. Not creepy vampire a muppet.
Uadjet:  His reaction to the ship I built was pretty good, though I missed the reation to the flying carpets.
Gonger:  Oh, that Count! He is too funny!
>Anysu nods at Gonger.
Uadjet:  Imagine turning in items as part of the quest. "One, one shiiny steel ingot. Two, two pretty steel ingots, ..."
>Anysu grins impishly.
Anysu:  Oh think he laughed between the numbers also. Ha ha ha.
Uadjet:  I think Talad might veto that...
Uadjet:  Oh, of course!
Uadjet:  So give that a try, if you like.
Uadjet:  Other than that, Talad's been doing a lot of work on character model improvements.
Koraza:  I noticed he was slimming down the Enki race.
Uadjet:  He was working on Enkis very recently, improving the quality of the models.
Uadjet:  Slimming down them all?
Thosor:  Hope not too much.
Koraza:  Yes... they appeared to have gained lots of weight in Unreal.
Gonger:  To all, please contribute to the Dryken Plane discussion...
Anysu:  Yilian female yet? Really want mine to be able to wear armor on model!
Gonger:  We need to get more RP in there... otherwise newbies who have been told we LOVE to RP and it is a crucial element of PlaneShift will start with something totally NOT RP...
Uadjet:  There's a lot of sexual dimorphism among the Enkis, I don't know if it's that or something else.
Uadjet:  And I'm still working on quests. Talad got the Quest Validator working, so it's catching a lot of errors I missed when writing the quest.
Uadjet:  And that's what's been going on!
Uadjet:  Any questions?
Uadjet:  I want to get those quests done this week, so it'll add 19+ quests to what we already have.
Uadjet:  The + being about Delver quests, mainly.
Koraza:  You've been very busy! Nothing new I guess but still, 19 is a lot!
>Koraza thanks Uadjet!
>Thosor thanks Uadjet!
Anysu:  Thanks for update
Uadjet:  Yeah, I'd forgotten that What Rought Beast was 97 steps. I'll have to ask Talad if that 100 step limit still applies. :D
Anysu:  100 steps seems like alot.
Uadjet:  You don't need to do all of them. There are branches, and you can probably complete the quest with a little more than half that.
Uadjet:  And a 'step' is just menu choice and response, so a single conversation with an NPC that takes 2 minutes could be 10-20 steps.
Koraza:  Any talk of having fast traves to these new locations?
Thosor:  Need full size pteros...
Uadjet:  Ah, I'll mention that to Talad. I'm not sure if he'll want them, as neither Delver nor the Observatory are that far from Hydlaa, and the Observatory seems unlikely to get regular cart traffic.
Anysu:  Aye to do quick travel like portals, be helpful..
Anysu:  sooo biiigg the world scape.
Koraza:  Love the idea of a mage selling use of magic portals
Gonger:  Yes to portals, and YES to the Legacy pterosaurs. They looked so much cooler!
Anysu:  portable portals..cool
Koraza:  They did!
Koraza:  Or complete a small quest to use portals, especially for the new PS players.
Uadjet:  I think there was some chat about putting the pteros back to the way they were.
Anysu:  or even a glyph to portal
Uadjet:  I don't think it'll be portals, but a cart ride is possible to some locations. Maybe Delver, Raurim, Homestead.
Thosor:  especially before they get mounts
Anysu nods at Thosor
Thosor:  Although it seems most new players get a mount almost right away somehow.
Anysu:  I still have another character that needs a mount.
Uadjet:  It could be returning players who know how to do it.
Gova:  I think I timed how long it takes to complete the different paths to Winch Access, and it isn't long.
Gova:  Getting the tria for a mount takes a bit longer.
Gonger:  30.000 tria is not much, once you learn a bit of crafting.
Anysu:  True about the tria.
Thosor:  Or someone gives it to you.
Gonger:  For pterosaurs we should at least add two 0s to that number, methinks.
Gonger:  So pterosaurs become a real tria burner... ;)
Koraza:  Seems like many herbs have disappeared over these last few months
Uadjet:  Yeah. I think I recall reading where ptero ownership was limited to one per guild or trading house or something.
Anysu nods at Koraza
Uadjet:  Flying mounts are also an issue, as it enables players to get off the map very easily.
Thosor:  Even in the 21st century, we still don't have personal flying mounts.
Koraza:  True... just helecopters ;)
Koraza:  *helicopters
Thosor:  gotta go out and secure... tornado warning
Uadjet:  I think the gaining altitude is the problelm. As long as players can't go 'up' it should be okay, as the barriers at the edges of the map are pretty high.
Koraza:  Good luck, Thosor!
Uadjet:  And one that note, I think we can bring the meeting to a close.
Anysu:  Be safe Thosor
Thosor:  oh, just a watch, bbl
>Koraza greets Andarel.
>Andarel waves.
Uadjet:  Take care, everyone, and I'll see you again in... three weeks this time.
Andarel:  oh I missed it hehe was afk
Anysu:  Yeah the meeting just ended.
Koraza:  Alright. Thanks!
Andarel:  take care :)
Anysu:  But will be another in a couple weeks
Gonger:  Do not forget to leave the room before quitting.
>Anysu nods at Gonger.
Anysu:  Thanks for the update!
Gonger:  I will try to make all updates (events, Q&A) on Tuesday.
Anysu:  Thanks Gonger! Thanks Uadjet!

Uadjet:  Hello and welcome to the Developer's Q&A! This is an out-of-character meeting where you can hear about the development of the game and ask the Dev and GM teams any questions you might have. If you do have any questions, please line up at the lecterns in front of the stage.
Anysu:  No idea what happened there
>Anysu greets everyone.
Anysu:  Was in plaza. tp plazza again. Relogged and was falling. But I heard whar was going on in main
Anysu:  Can you all see me?
Uadjet:  Okay, the first sounds like a tp failure due to collision, which would presumably have been the table.
Anysu:  Oh you tried to place me on table!
Uadjet:  Yeah
Anysu:  Awe dang it failed.
Anysu:  Thanks for effort
Uadjet:  I'll get the coordinates and use those.
Anysu:  Okay. Thanks for getting me here in end!
Gonger:  Did anybody read my latest post on the Dryken Plane? I still try to prevent the Plane from chasing away too many newbies...
Anysu:  Did not see it.  But thanks for trying.
Uadjet:  I have, yes.
Uadjet:  I think it's a godo idea to start with something else, but I think we need a concrete plan to propose to Talad.
Gonger:  I tried to outline such a plan, but better ideas are welcome.
Uadjet:  That's the most recent thread in Gameplay>>General Discussion
Gonger:  I just made a small but important modification to the first line of the post.
Gonger:  Well, the forums are not so overused that it should be hard to find... ;)
Uadjet:  Yeah, the "recent posts" section on the main page of the forum is how I found it.
Uadjet:  The gist is that the current Dryken Plane is maybe not the best or most accurate first impression of the game.
Anysu nods
Gonger:  I disagree about the "maybe"...
Uadjet:  Heh, I was just trying to soften things a bit.
Uadjet:  Talad is fond of it, however, so does anyone have any thoughts on how to keep the Dryken Plane section, but with something more like regular gameplay before it?
Anysu:  Perhaps a line in all adverts with link to that Dryken plane. Line that mentions this is not (Or something like that) what game is like.
Anysu:  Dryken plane vid I meant
Gonger:  My idea is to have a small scenario BEFORE the Dryken Plane... so it would no longer be the first thing after character creation.
Uadjet:  My ideal solution would be a little map on each home world, but that would take a ton of effort and wouldn't make sense for Lemurs and Kran.
Uadjet:  Then again, there's no reason they'd been in the Dryken Plane.
Anysu:  Maybe a sceerio with the leaders or council etc from all that races telling the people of the portal and need to do through.
Anysu:  But as Uadjet of homeworld above, yeah be alot.
Anysu:  But yeah would not fit Lemur or Kran
Damola:  I love it how Damola can sit on thin air.
Damola:  It is the levitation glyph.
>Gonger greets Damola.
>Anysu waves at Damola
Damola:  Silent meditation time?
Anysu:  Neither does it fit a player who may want in backstory a character that was not born on homeworld.
Uadjet:  Just thinking about the Dryken Plane and ways to make it fit into the game a little more smoothly.
Anysu:  We talking abot the Plane
Gonger:  We discuss the Dryken Plane, I had some ideas in my latest forum post.
Anysu:  Anysu and ALL my characters  were born here.
Gova:  I think's it's assumed that new players were born on the homeworlds. As mentioned that doesnt' really fit with Kran, Lemur, and Ynnwn.
Gova:  Any of those coming in via the Dryken Plane makes no sense. It's like taking the interstate to get to a friend's place two doors down.
Damola:  Yeah.
Uadjet:  The current Dryken Plane could be done as a flashback, I suppose, or... I dunno. I just throught about a little outpost in the Dryken Plane, but I think that's beyond Yliakum's capabilities.
Uadjet:  Vodul is, I assume, the eyes that talk to you in there.
Anysu:  I could see a flashback scenerio
Damola:  Hmmm? I wonder what would be a natural way for a Kran to come to be? Gemmation? And what of a Lemur,or Ynnwn? Birth?
Damola:  Now? I am not sure whether new players would enjoy playing their char as a baby for an extended perioud of time first? so? of course a Kran could spawn directly in Gugontrid, assumung kra had their childhood there.
Gova:  It worked in Fallout 3... for a couple minutes.l
Damola:  Also of course a Nolthrir for example could also be born in Yliakum.
Gonger:  Damola, Ronasi, before you arrived I repeated that my main point is that the Dryken Plane is TERRIBLE as a first impression of PlaneShift, so I feel something should be done about this...
Damola:  Not necessarily every new Nolhrir would arrive from the home world? also in lore? consider? all those catastrophies, the acocalypses in the homeworlds happened a huge long time ago? why would still many new people leave their home world? If they did not back then, what would have been the chance to survive there even to the present day?
Damola:  The Dryken plane for me does not make all that much sense ICly, lore-wise.
Damola:  Just thinking about it.
Uadjet:  I think the idea is that the trip takes a variable amount of time. In most cases it's only a few years in which people can leave the dying words.
Damola:  And yes? Gonger, the Dryken plane, even in its simpler form may deter many new players from playing the game.
Damola:  Hmmm? but a trip through the portal taking one hundred or more cycles? Sounds like bending things into place to force them to fit into lore.
Damola:  So still does not make all that much sense to me the longer I think about it.
>Anysu nods at Damola.
Damola wonders whether there are any new Youtube videos, were people try to solve Dryken Plane and rant about it.
Damola:  Anyway, what have been some of your suggestions so far?
Damola:  Remove Dryken Plane and let players start directly in the tutorial area. May be one of the best options, but I am not sure Talad would be happy about it.
Anysu:  And what of rp? What if a new player having come through portal rps wth another: You recall that trip? Do you remeber home word? ANd those of us who may be in mindset ic that I do not recaall I was born here.
Damola:  But that option would give players the freedom to decide for themselves how they got here.
Anysu:  Continuity failure thete in rp.
Damola:  They spawn in tutorial area? and can make up their own story.
Damola:  Actually the story of Damola is that she has been born by her parents in the lower planes.
Damola:  Damola has not come from the home world.
Damola:  Their ancestors some generations before have.
Damola:  That is always how I understood lore.
Anysu:  Same with Anysu. Born on a world level.. think it was 2 or 3.
>Anysu nods at Damola.
Damola:  I am also not intending to change that. Damola has not been through Dryken Plane ICly. period.
Anysu nods at Damola
Damola:  What options did you discuss?
Damola ponders "The only thing about the Dryken Plane is teaching new players some of the history? I quite like the narrated story how Nolthrirs left their home world through the portal for example?"
Uadjet:  I mentioned making a little map for each homeworld, but there are both technical and lore problems with that.
Damola:  ? however? that intro can remain independently of the Dryken Plane. One does not need the Dryken Plane for that intro to work.
Gonger:  The idea I posted in the forums would probably not be too hard to make, but it is maybe not yet detailed enough...
Damola:  I really thought that little intro added something valuable, but it could have been the parents telling Damola about the history of her ancestors or she could have learned it in school? one does not need a Dryken Plane for that.
Damola:  Reading forum post? wait a moment.
Anysu:  I just mentioned in adverts, a notice and link to Plane video, that game is not all like this.
Damola:  Well feel free to continue to discuss? but I am still going to read that post now :)
Gonger:  What do you mean, Anysu? In adverts?
Uadjet:  Yeah, the race-specific bits are very nice.
Damola:  Hmmm, maybe this needs several iterations of discussion. Discuss it a bit, then let it sit and see what ideas come up and then continue to discuss it at another dev q&a or in forum.
Anysu:  or a vid of world leaders telling people to head to portal.
Anysu:  Advertisments
Anysu:  Where ever you mention game
Anysu:  Whatever media used,
Gonger:  Maybe you want to join the PR team... (me only, right now).
Damola:  I have one idea, reading your post Gonger? about this adversary having a nemesis?
Damola:  it is not very concrete indeed? however I think just a very good ideal came to my mind that one can use to think about and come up with a plan.
Anysu:  An idea, yet I do not have time to even play game during week. And I am no good at using the socials...Ihave none. But Discord.
Damola:  What if?
Damola:  ? Dryken Plane does not need to be the first thing that happens after character creation? but as you mentioned before there could be some flash back kind thing? and a way to hook this up could be a quest line where the char is either having visions or is told some of the the original happening how their ancestors or for Kran and Lemur and Ynnwn how *other* races came to Yliakum.
Damola:  ? that way you do not have to get rid of Dryken Plane, but it would be possible to embed it into some quest line.
Damola:  The only thing that may be hard about it? it may be challenging to implement? but on the other hand? it could be done in a similar way than Menita's puzzle.
Damola:  In a sense the Dryken Plane could be like a dungeon, like the Lava Cave or Menita's puzzle? and a quest line leads to it?
Damola:  But it would happen later in game for those that take on that quest line.
Damola:  The intro for the race can still be played after character creation. And there could be an intro for Kran as well, how Talad created them. Or is there already? And for Lemur and for Ynnwn.
Damola:  That way Talad gets to keep the Dryken Plane, it would not be necessary to completely remove it, but new players 1. create a char, 2. view the intro for their race, 3. spawn into tutorial area and enter the game much more easily.
Gonger:  Honestly, personally I had so many negative reactions from newbies on Discord and on Whispering them that at this point I want ANYTHING before the Dryken Plane, so newbies get a better first impression of PlaneShift.
Damola:  Well with my suggestion would completely remove the Dryken Plane out of new character comes into the world process.
Damola:  But it could be accessed later during a specific quest line like Menita's puzzle for example.
Damola:  And indeed, the more I think about it? it might be best to do away with Dryken Plane during new player experience.
Damola:  I often enough thought, after Talad made it simpler? it is not too bad? but apparently? it still demotivates too many new players.
Damola:  Anyway, we are way over the time. I am all for picking this up during next dev q&a again.
Gonger:  Yes. And it has literally nothing to do with the rest of PlaneShift...
Anysu:  This is good input, and could be worked on also in forums... YET it is not us that needs convincing, BUT Talad.
Damola:  Then all of us had two weeks to ponder about it and generate new ideas.
Damola:  Fair point, Anysu, fair point. I indeed have the feeling that Talad is quite in favor of the Dryken Plane.
Gonger:  He is... I remember how hard it was to convince him to improve the first version.
Damola:  But the better and more elaborated our ideas become, the easier may it be to convince him.
Gonger:  And that first version was unplayable...
Damola:  It was hard indeed. I had to use the short cut to run in order to make it in time.
Gonger:  Uadjet, still there?
Uadjet:  Yup
Damola:  Anyway, we are way over time.
Damola:  I think I just write down my thoughts in forum.
Anysu:  Do you have any udates you want to shortcut version give, Uadjet?
Damola:  Ahahaha, I thought you did the update part already? so you discussed Dryken Plane all the time?
Anysu:  On meeting topics
Uadjet:  Yeah. One quick thing: Talad has continued working on weapons and shields, and an item inspection tool where you can get a better look at the objects in game. You'll get the 3d item in front of you, where you can turn it about. Kinda like what was in Skyrim.
Anysu:  Yup Damola
Anysu:  Cool idea of having such a tool
Damola:  Would love to read a quick update thingy before concluding this.
Uadjet:  Okay, so let's break here, and then in two weeks we can continue the conversation. I may do the update first. ;)
Damola:  Haha, okay!
Damola:  Thanks for updating me on the conversation. I knew I was a bit late to it.
Damola:  Unreal-Damola already has 2,7 MiB chat log already?
Damola:  ? will nicely add up over the years.
>Damola waves at Bookstand
Damola:  See you, Bookstand? and everyone else!
Damola:  Thanks for the meeting.
Ronasi's bookstand tries to wave back but fails
Damola chuckles brightly as she leaves.
>Ronasi waves at Damola
Gonger:  Do not forget to leave the building before Quitting.

Gonger::  First question is of course: When will the Main Server be back?
Thosor:  Why did we leave a server that was good for years?
Uadjet:  Basically they changed their business plan, so we needed a new host.
Uadjet:  And Talad was not sure why the server was down, last I knew. It's very odd.
Gonger::  That's two times in two weekends...
Uadjet:  Yes, and at approximately the same time.
Uadjet:  It may be a scheduled task that's causing the problem.
Anysu:  And not just blip down and up again. HOURS...DAYS...
Uadjet:  But that's just a hypothesis.
Thosor:  Where is it in relation to this server?
Uadjet:  I don't know.
Uadjet:  Talad has contacted CS and the Admin, so hopefully they'll get this figured out.
Anysu:  Evenmores is this new host, secure...
Thosor:  I have been unable to reproduce what I, Anysu and others had, the problem of sticking reticle during combat, at least when I tried in the arena.
Uadjet:  I wasnt' able to replicate that myself.
Uadjet:  And that doesn't seem like the kind of thing that would be different for a GM account.
Thosor:  I would like to TP to that archery event area we had to see if it a location issue.
Thosor:  Not right now. Is the archery setup near the globe, still?
Thosor:  And, I tried many arrows, many weapons in the arena, not just
Anysu:  Doubt that area is here on test server...
Uadjet:  I'll have to teleport a training dummy to you.
Thosor:  I meant sometime on the other server, and need to transported, I think.
Uadjet:  Yeah, I can teleport you there, and place a training dummy.
Thosor:  All it took was shooting in thin air, once, I think, not at a target, not 100% sure, though.
Uadjet:  That little dome is one of the teleport shortcuts I have saved, so it's a file opening away.
Anysu:  It was not shooting a target, or might have also been if missed target
Thosor:  or the target died
Thosor:  I might have it on a video.
Thosor:  NOT fecebook.
Uadjet:  Okay, now for updates!
>Thosor claps for Marble Bench.
Uadjet:  Right around the time of the last meeting Talad was revamping the repair system a bit.
Thosor:  claps for uajet too.
Uadjet:  It's more complex now.
Uadjet:  Armor and weapon repair kits are now the same thing.
Anysu:  complex.....facepaws.
Uadjet:  To get perfect repairs you'll need a different type of repair kit.
Uadjet:  I'd look up the name, but the webconsole I do that on is on the same server as the game, so....
Gonger::  It is very important that perfect repairs are still possible.
Uadjet:  Tools also degrade with use. I didn't think that was in, but it appears to be. Higher quality tools should also be available at some merchants.
Uadjet:  Those might only be available if you have high enough faction with Eternal Forge.
Uadjet:  Note that the faction should not require certain skill levels, just quest commpletion.
Thosor:  Good, so no grinding.
Thosor:  Quests and RP good.
Uadjet:  There is also a new item: the Arcane Crucible.
Uadjet:  It's a piece of equipment like a forge, or glyph enchanter.
Anysu:  Whoa... what does it do?
Uadjet:  It can be used to improve the max quality of items, but it is resource hungry.
Anysu:  Resources as in wood and metal?
Uadjet:  Taking something from 50q to 300 would take a fortune.
Uadjet:  I think that is revealed in-game, so I'll avoid s poiling it here.
Thosor:  But buffing up once inawhile would be worth it.
Gonger::  Sounds interesting, especially in terms of economy...
Thosor:  Gova has not been able to restore my platinum swords fully, so I would certainly pay to have them back to full quality.
Uadjet:  It's actually intended to be a way to drain some tria from the economy, as currently the game's economy is a little busted.
Anysu:  Not even a hint for where to start to find that  revelation?
Gova:  Is that the Steel Heart quest?
Uadjet:  That's the one.
Gova:  Ah. For a hint, check the Arena.
Anysu:  Hmm haven't heard  of that quest. Then I haven't quested for ages,
Anysu:  hmm.
Uadjet:  I just checked, and the arcane crucible is placed in game.
Anysu:  Okay there Uadjet:?
Anysu:  cool
Thosor:  On the real server?
Zarre:  So we have a new artist volunteer to create this crucible?
Thosor:  "The Crucible"
Uadjet:  It may look quite similar to the existing enchanters.
Anysu:  So a quest is needed to access it? Or if you find it you just go up to it and place stuff in it?
Uadjet:  Apart from that, Talad is also working on new weapons and shields. New art, at least. He's looking for race-specific weapons, so Dwarven axes will look unique. He's got a good Stonehammer axe and a Nolthrir sword already.
Uadjet:  I don't think you need the quest to access it.
Uadjet:  It's not locked away anywhere.
Anysu:  Okay.
Anysu:  Liked the enki weapon Talad had up in discord.
Uadjet:  Ah, yes. The double dagger.
Uadjet:  And he did mention the tail blades.
Anysu:  Pretty cool.
Anysu:  Tail blades also cool!
Thosor:  That wasn't the best Diaboli profile of her weapon in the supporters channel, especially if the monitor contrast was low.
Uadjet:  Talad's got a lot running on his system while he streams, so maybe the quality of some graphcis settings is slightly below "epic"
Uadjet:  Yeah, that weapon does look like what a Diaboli would have. When looking at blades for them, the one thing that immediately seemed right to me was the tail of a xenomorph.
Uadjet:  As for me, I've been working on polymorph and /morph. Well, not directly. I've been trying out different ways of doing that in Unreal.
Zarre:  Using the spell or GM commands?
Anysu:  Aye would be nice to  morph into the thing trying to morph into.
Uadjet:  It should work for both.
Uadjet:  I've had limited success so far, using different methods. Next I'll try spawning a new mesh and having the player possess it.
Uadjet:  I'll keep at it though. So far I have no idea why currently I can change mesh but not texture in game.
Anysu:  WHOA...
Uadjet:  Wait, that worked.
Uadjet:  Why did it work?
Gova:  The spell does nothing.
>Zarre claps for Uadjet:.
Anysu:  Nods
Uadjet:  Okay, I'll do some tests here, to see if the bug is gone, or just doesn't affect every form.
Uadjet:  Any questions?
Thosor:  At least not crying for food.
Uadjet:  FEED YOUR FAMILIARS!!!
Zarre offers a used piece of gum to the familiar
Anysu:  Says am a groffel, yet no model change as before.
Thosor:  lol
Zarre:  Go ahead take it, I haven't touched it.
Thosor:  used gum from under who's table?
Anysu:  At that size Uadjet: looks like one of those huge balloons in parades.
Anysu:  Never made it to the table Thosor
Thosor:  Yaeh, and how it is floating.
Uadjet:  I could go bigger, but that causes issues.
Uadjet:  Like how my camera seems to be stuck in the ceiling.
Zarre:  From another place. I just snagged a tiny silver platter with a wad of gum on it... so no germs from any table at all!
Uadjet:  Okay, then I think we can bring the meeting to a close. I'll stick around and test the morph ability for now.
Uadjet:  It'll almost certainly crash me, so I don't want to do it during the meeting.
Uadjet:  So head out and find hte new arcane crucible!
Uadjet:  You'd need to do the quest mentioned again on the normal server, but you can at least find the eequipment.
Zarre:  Thanks Uadjet:.
Thosor:  Been waiting to escape to clean spiders from grill and make burgers on this perfect holiday weather...
Zarre:  Yummy!
Thosor:  Anysu, think you would fall forevohis server?r on t
Anysu:  Thought you did not need to do quest to use the crucible?
Gonger::  Good night, everybody. Let's hope things go back to normal soon...

Thanks Talad for the suggestion, I'm now on discord searching for my old guild mates, Love the way Planeshift is going and I'm sure we'll see some growth on it as well,, on that note I'm planning on being on more often, I noticed that I still have a guild bank, so I'm resurrecting the domain, not sure if I'll be lucky enough to find any of the old pages out there as the domain had lapsed and i just bought it back from scratch, any ways Thanks for all the hard work you've done, and let's play on.

Pages: 1 ... 8 9 [10]
