Female 3D-Model
« on: August 23, 2004, 01:23:13 am »
Mae govannen (or just hello)!

Well, I saw that there are still some races without model, so I took an old low-polygon-model and made some improvements. I have to admit, that I\'m a newbie, so it\'s not very good, but maybe you can use it.
As you can see, the model is female but I didn\'t add any ears. The whole face isn\'t finished, because I didn\'t know, what is needed and so this model can be used to create a female of nearly any race.
Another thing is, that this model is neither skinned nor rigged (because I hate to do this *g*), but nevertheless I hope that you can use it, so that it helps this game...
Here are the pictures:

PS: Don\'t be to harsh... I\'m just a newbie trying to help... and it certainly looks better with a skin...

Mae govannen on you too.

Maybe its a little too low poly.
And cause of low poly its not a very detailed face, or anything else.
Proportions is a little off, legs is twice as long as upper body.

But i think it looks good. More suited for The Sims maybe?
Try increasing the details a little, at least to MB standards, and youll have a good model. :)

Nice to see someone on this forum who makes 3d chars ;)
Now here\'re some critiques:

When you look at the side view,  she looks very thin, try to give her some more \"shape\", shapes are good on woman ;)

I don\'t know the current polycount, but try to add some to the face, it\'s reallt flat. Try to punch in some eye sockets and a mouth. We currently use a polycount of 3000-3500 on chars. At the moment, you even use more poly\'s on the boobs then on the head, now boobs are good...i know...but still ;)

When you model a character, model it in this pose:
http://www.planeshift.it/pix/pics/render/new_stoneb.jpg

(The arms are at an angle and the fingers are a bit bend too)
This is done to have a better deformation when you\'re weighting/skinning the model.

At placed where the limbs bend (arm, shoulder, leg) always try to have 3 or more \"cuts\". This will also aid in the deformation.

I\'m not sure, but it looks like she only has 4 fingers, that not really fair don\'t you think ;)

She might be a skinny char, but even then the feet are way too small, size them up a little, especially the height.

I would strongly advise you to buy a good anatomy book or look up some good sites about it on the net. http://www.3d.sk is a really good site full of good reference pics, but the membership will cost you $10 per month.

I also would stronly advise you to look at this site:
http://staff.ci.qut.edu.au/%7Ebarkerc/Final%20PAN%20website/panindex.htm
It deals with a high poly model but the principles will be the same. Have a good look at the edgeloop modelling section, this will also aid a lot to make a realistic character.

Thx for the replies!

@Face: As I wrote I didn\'t know what exactly is needed so I left it out completely (after all the face of an human being is another than the face of an Ynnwn or an Elf). That is, why it is so flat. I thought that the second most important part is the torso (after the face, which I left out), because you see this part more often (for example, when you talk to somebody, you wont see his/her feet). I also didn\'t know the polycount used in PS, so I treid to keep it as low was possible (442 polys). 3000-3500 changes everything!!!
I\'ll try my best to do all corrections now but I didn\'t want to do too much because it was 0:00 when I began with modifing the model.

atenio!

PS: She has 5 fingers, but you don\'t see it on the renderings ;).
PPS: The proportions of upper body and legs must be OK, because if the model had my size, it would have legs only about 5cm longer than mine (and I\'m male...).

Well... the model has now about 2500 polys, but I really suck at this... here new screenshots:

I notice the chin is a bit spikey and the cheekbones are oddly shaped, but apart from that, a very big improvement. :) Keep practicing Skemmdur!

(Edit: The shoulders also scare me... just noticed that o.o)

It looks much better but try giving a more feminine look to the face

The feet are also a little big
