Politcal Propaganda
« on: October 09, 2004, 08:16:50 pm »

It\'s propaganda from the good old state of California. I need not tell you who it is on the cover. Good Ol\' Governer Schwartzenegger (R) :D The rest of it said vote for Bush and Cheney and the rest of your Republican Party...I\'m 18 and I haven\'t registered to vote yet but my college has voter registration on October 14th, I haven\'t chose my party...

Anyways any got pics of your country/state propaganda?

p.s: Please try to avoid slipping this topic into political party discussion, this topic is about political propaganda.
My name is NOT pronounced, \"Kway-per,\" it\'s pronounced \"Kye-per.\"

Politics propoganda, yeah it\'s no joke :D
At least USA has more than one side to it.  For example D propoganda and R propoganda and nobody gets hurt over it it, healthy propoganda (hopefully) :), can\'t say similar for many other countries.

Well heh I am Canadian ^^ and probally the one time I really noticed political propaganda being put to use was..

At a Football game in Regina, the Labour Day game..its a huge huge game. They had a plane go across the stadium with a banner reading \"Saskatchewan has never won the Grey Cup under NDP leadership\" (or something like that..) Kind of a low blow I guess...I dunno I was just their for the drinks anyways :P

In the first brief look I thought it\'s a one of those WWII propaganda posters, exact same style, really funny.

And Sashok, I\'m not sure about that. What about the anti-communistic propaganda in the US? It was (and still is) so strong, that many Americans truly believe that everything bad is communistic. Movies are still being made that have the US in bad relations with Russia due to the latter\'s communism even though the stories take place in late 1990 - early 21st century.
Movies are only fiction, true, but they do indicate about their audience, and they do cram stupid ideas into people\'s minds. When someone watches countless of movies that show American war heros that kill \'pinkos\', it does settle in their mind. When they see a movie that tells about how a nice old lady gets robbed in a peaceful American suburb and everyone say \"It must have been those damned communists!\", it does affect them.

This is a strictly one-sided political propaganda, and it\'s far from healthy, because even almost 15 years after the collapse of the Soviet Union (and probebly 20 since the last indirect fight between the two superpowers), people still believe that they have to be feared from communists.

Thankfully, someone finally realized that the \'anti-communistic\' propaganda is meaningless nowdays, and switched it to \'anti-terrorists\' propaganda. Wich is kinda funny considering that just 20 years ago there was a pro-terrorists propaganda by the US that asked Americans to donate to the ruthless Nicaraguan Contras. Don\'t tell me it was healthy and that no one got hurt from that one.

So like every other nation, the US got it\'s nice stock of one-sided political propaganda, wich can cause people the get hurt, and can be unhealthy.

Besides, advertising a political party is far from being political propaganda, even if it copies propaganda from the 40s.

SaintNuclear, i think this thread is mainly meant to post propaganda, not start a political discussion.

Anyone: What is the difference between political advertisements and propaganda? Prior to elections the parties here of course also use advertisements. But that i wouldnt call propaganda.
And the government here has broadcast tv commercials. Like a commercial to persuade people into acting when something is being the victim of unnecesary violence (a really lame one btw). Is that propaganda?
If your opponent is willing to die for his cause, he and you have the same goal set in mind.

1 Definition of propaganda
A way of presenting a belief that seeks to generate acceptance without regard to facts or the right of others to be heard. Propaganda often presents the same argument repeatedly, in the simplest terms and ignores all rebuttal or counter-argument. It is essentially self- interested and often associated with authoritarian regimes. Propaganda is often used to convey official descriptions of reality, when it may be allied with bureaucratic control of media, censorship of opposing opinions and deliberate misinformation.

Or more squarely
Advertisement: Vote for me and I\'ll cut the loss of jobs, and maybe even increase employment, securing the wellfare of the people. If I get elected I will... eg. cut taxes for low-income.. etc

Propaganda: If you vote for my opponent instead of me, you will loose your job! My opponent can not be trusted! He is a thief and a murderer! Vote for him and destroy the future of your children! He can not be trusted the future of this country!

I wasn\'t starting a political discussion, I was continuing a politcal propaganda discussion.

See, the topic is political propaganda. I may be wrong, but I think it\'s a good thing to discuss political propaganda in a political propaganda topic.
As for not posting any political propaganda pics, you didn\'t either, so where does it put you?

And back on topic: There\'s this really nice site full of Chinese Propaganda posters. I kinda dislike the way it was made, but it\'s a pretty large archive of these posters (and it got very new ones, like ones for the future 2008 Beijing olympics). Too bad they\'re not translated.

Well saintnuclear, you have good points, and i also disagree with some, but like somebody says, this is different topic.

This is an example of soviet propaganda where a strong russian woman is presented with a look of hope and optimism :D .  You can tell she\'s a woman of no aristocratic roots, a pure red army breed :) It reads \"we are ready for a heroic deed in hard labor/work\" or something like that.  This is clear example of new communist power in Russia trying to bring up feelings of pride and optimism in working class people in soviet union.  Simple and direct.

Sashok, have you watched the movie \"Brat 2\" (Borther 2)? Now thats what i call pro-Russian propoganda!

Q: How many Planeshifters does it take to expalin a simple concept to a newb?
A: Six. Five to argue on who\'s explanation is right, and Moogie to lock the thread.

Is there some sort of retro trend in advertisement currently? It surely looks like a 70\'s ad for bread or flour... :D

\"Are you all gangsters\"
\"No, we are russians\"

I loved both of the movies :)  brat and brat 2 probably because of the actors, very good acting for a change, and music is awesome.
i really dont agree with the movie, but i like it anyway :D  dilemma
