To get to the /usr/local/lib, go to the Finder, and under go select \"Go to folder...\", then type in \"/usr/local/lib\".  You might have to type in \"/usr/local\" and then create a \"lib\" folder like I did (which worked), or you might be able to just dump it in the \"lib\" file in /usr (just speculating, I haven\'t tried it yet).

Let me know if you all still are having trouble, doing this I managed to get the game up and running.

Almond,

OK, I used the finder, typed in /usr/local.  Now, what \"lib\" folder did you create?  I need to be led further.

With my setup (2X1.25 + Radeon 9600) the game is almost unplayable but I keep trying ... this project deserve our support :)

So it\'s a problem of server... in the future the game can be faster on my pc, isn\'t it?

Freezing (again)
« Reply #62 on: January 11, 2005, 10:55:30 pm »
does anyone else\'s game freeze within a few minutes of the game?

If anyone has a suggestion on how I, or the Planeshift dev team could fix this error, please post it.

I just don\'t get it... I have a good internet connection and computer, and I downloaded the same game as you guys, but my game freezes.

P.S. I don\'t mean to be demanding (like last time, hehe)

Freezing and slowness.
« Reply #63 on: January 11, 2005, 11:29:12 pm »
After doing the manual file install I talked about earlier in the thread. I have had a relatively painfree playing experience. The slowness is to be expected with the 400 pings I get off of the lone server. The game will slow down if you play in an area with a lot of players. Go to a more empty spot and see how fast it runs there.

No harshness intended Vamptvo.
Could the people having crashes and freezes be more detailed about what happens. Does the game let you into the plaza? Can you get past making a Character? Does the game just stop on the startup screen? Does the program just quit or does it really crash your system? Do you know all you mac shortcuts for killing applications? (Mac help) What MacOS are you running? Are you running any other programs?

I run a Mac OSX 10.2.8, G4 Aluminum Powerbook, 1 ghrz, 516 Ram.

Problems I have noted:

Updater doesn\'t appear to work. Justs downloads a registry and returns to a rest state.

The toolbar at the top is not there.

I have accidently dragged the various windows (Inventory, options, etc.) off of the main screen and can\'t reach them to bring them back into view. They stay at their x,y positions out of sight. I retyped their positions into the screen by editing the \"planeshift.cfg\" in the text editor. Perhaps a position reset would be keen.

I accidentally wiped out the psclient.cfg to default somehow in the game. Screen size, window fading, and shortcuts where all gone. I got the original file installed and it was fine afterword.

I was playing and about to attack a rat when all of a sudden all computer and player characters, with the exception of myself, froze. I was down in some sewer area, if that helps at all. I was still able to move around and (after a long time of searching and getting lost... maybe I just didn\'t find it in the commands menu, but a map would be awesome!) I made my way back to the main plaza. No one was there and the colors were wacked out, lots of black where sky, buildings, and ground should have been. Could be my eMac G4, 1 Ghz. Just to let you know about a bug.

my character got stuck again and the screens were running at the top of a ladder coming out of the sewer (by running i mean one section of the screen duplicating itself all across the screen). don\'t know if you want us to post stuff like this here, maybe we could a have a mac game problems thread or something. talk to me 8-)

edit--by the way, my character also got stuck on top of a fence after falling through a hole in nothing (solid ground). oh, and can you delete characters because i can\'t fix the character stuck on fence.

Ok, I...
1) start up the game...it loads
2) type in username and password...press OK
3) click join game
4) get into the game
5) after about 10-30 seconds, the mouse, and all other movements on the screen stop...None of the buttons do anything...I restart the computer

Sometimes it even freezes on steps 2 and 3, or right when I enter the game. Any suggestions?

I\'m using a...
G4 Tower
OSX 10.2.8
896 MB Ram
500 Mhz proccessor

*Thanks* :)

>OSX 10.2.8

The game is rendered by OpenGL APIs and the Panther implementation is certainly better ...

You should seriously consider an upgrade to MacOS 10.3  (Tiger will be ready in a matter of few months).

Wich graphic card are you using? Is it the Sawtooth built-in graphic card (ATI Rage 128 Pro in AGP 2X slot)?

A G4 500 Sawtooth with a Rage 128 would be  too slow for this game ...

Updater crashes after updating
« Reply #68 on: January 12, 2005, 05:57:54 pm »
So, I re-ran the updater, and this time, it updated itself. Downloaded new files, including a new updater binary. It finished, I re-ran it (to update PS), but now it crashes.

Ho hum.

Bug report
« Reply #69 on: January 12, 2005, 08:42:11 pm »
Ok, since I thinkt that it\'s great that there is a free MMORPG out there and for Mac too, I\'m going to post some of the problems that I have encountered.

First computer stats of the computer that I tried it on:
Processor: 800 MHz PowerPC G4
Mac OS 10.2.8
RAM: 384MB

* Game freezes at times. I can see what people write and that people run about, but I can\'t do anything. (Both times this has happened for me it was just after using the tab button to look around, but that was probably just random since the tab usually works just fine.)

* Game laggs quite often, mostly when I turn around and face the fountain in the middle of the city. (I get FPSs at 0.1 or 0.2 at times...)

* Sometimes when walking, my character falls apart like the different parts of the body weren\'t connected anymore. Then, when I continue to walk, it fixes itself so this isn\'t really a problem other than that it is quite ugly.

That would be all for now.

OK, that might be part of the problem, Macpete. I\'m not running Panther, but I have it. (haven\'t installed it yet) Also, I\'m using the standard graphics card that comes with the G4 Powermac. I\'m not planning to get a new graphics card, but Panther *should* make the game work a lot better, right?

I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this. A few times when I have entered the game I have been unable to see myself. This is regardless of camera view. I even killed myself by jumping from a tower to see if in the Death realm I would become visible.  Nope.  It isnt much of a problem as I can still navigate and apparently others can see me fine but I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this bug. Generaly, I find this game to be quite good and lookforward to the growth to come.

> I\'m not planning to get a new graphics card, but Panther *should* make the game work a lot better, right?

Mmmh ...

I\'m a total newbie here, Vamptvo, but ... well, I don\'t think so :(

Here are the minumum  system requirements for Planeshift as stated in the official FAQ:

- GeForce 2 or higher 3D graphics card
- 1 Ghz CPU
- 512 MB RAM
- 1 GB free disk space

I think that  a even a 733 or 867 MHz desktop G4 could run well this engine with Panther (the nVidia and Ati drivers included with the recent 10.3.7 update are slighty stable and fast)  but  only if  coupled  with a decent OpenGL graphic card like the GeForce 2MX or 4MX or the Radeon 7000 or 9000  ...

Maybe other (more experienced) Planeshift roleplayers here may share a bit of their experience with their Macs ...

An interesting AGP option for older  desktop G4s is the modified Radeon 9600 64 Mb OEM or the Radeon 9000 128 Mb retail ...

Anyway, with all this bugs and lags there\'s no way of running this game smoothly ...

I\'m really impressed with what i\'ve seen so far, though with the current bugs its almost too frustrating to play (especially when fps drops as low as 0.6) , but i\'ll battle on. The main problems I\'m having are the lack of top menu bar- as pointed out allready and the lack of visual in the dead realm, in place of a staircase i just see black so im enjoying alot of \'you fell down and died\' before getting back into the game after each death. Anyone else see this? Also i only have a one button mouse and the usual ctrl/option/shift clicks dont seem to function in place of right clicking, i\'m fed up of typing /loot! overall well done guys this ones looking good i hope it can become even better cus i have no money...
