Crystal Hunting in CB!
« on: January 17, 2005, 02:16:35 pm »
Hey guys!
Wouldn\'t it be cool if there were some *few* crystals spawning down in the old dungeon?
In MB i loved to hunt for crystals down there, in CB the dungeon feels kind of empty and left.
What do you think about that?

I think moving backwards isn\'t good way to progress...
In other words, in time devs could implement that, they could actually make something useful...

Crystal hunting would be a good way to pay homage to MB, but not untill the dungeon is made fall proof. The dungeon is much too dangerous to traverse safely, so crystal hunting is out of the question atm. Nice idea, wrong time though.

I think this would be usefull. A mmorg is made of it\'s possibilitys, isn\'t it?
And collecting valuable crystals would just be another possibility. It\'s already implemented in MB! It shouldn\'d be to hard to port it in CB!
Crystal Hunting was pure fun and i would love to see this in CB!

Kixie: Thats exactly what i think, but the dangerous dungeon would be the right place .... crystals could be more valueable in CB :)

Imho mmorpg should be made of roleplaying possibilities. So if had to pick between crystal hunt and implementing of another job, I would pick the job.

Chrystal hunting is not nececarly a blow to role playing.  There someone could roleplay as a tinker/scavenger

yes but more people would wish to roleplay animal trainer or smithy than scavenger

I actually would rather have crystal gathering as a job than smith or anything else. Jobs that the player defines and is out of the regular system are always more fun. Like the guy who specializes in one type of item. If he\'s good at it, and makes it his niche then he can make it big. Those are always the fun kind of people to roleplay.

pfft... don\'t treat it like roleplay feature. Spawning crystals were just time killers, lacking any logics. You don\'t just walk somewhere and *pop* Oh! There\'s a ruby!
You need to use skill to find gems...

I think its alot more roleplayable than beating a hide of leather with a hammer and magically spawning a finished leather vest in 2 minutes

dito! planeshift is set in a fantasy-world and everything is possible!
Maybe the xtals don\'t just spawn (*pop*)... the rocks down there could be kind of magical... the gems could \"grown\"...

Oh get real people. You\'re just looking for excuses.
Kixie: I\'d advice to actually learn what roleplaying is before making comments on it
Piece of advise: It\'s in the name: role-playing
Believe it or not, ability to be leather worker is a roleplaying feature.
Because, frankly, it allows you to play your role of leather worker.

If you want to look for crystals, get proper skill for that.
Gaining money by using only player skills is not quite roleplaying feature.

Ah, roleplaying isen\'t about preprogramed skills, its about using your imagination..... I played the role of a Lemur ice sorcerer in MB, even though nothing was in the code.

Its not about what your given, its about what you make

Bring on the Crystals

:emerald: I do not know if you know this Draklar,
But a Crystal Hunt in CB would take 1 Dev (or maybe high-level GM) about 30 minutes to maybe an hour to implement. what is involved is a dev going around the dungeon stopping & typing something like \"/creatspawnpoint Ruby\" or something to that effect & bam there is a ruby spawn point. We still have the old Crystal Meshes & Textures in CB they just are lying around the art\\things folder. all they have to do is set up spawn points & define Crystals as sell able items which shouldn\'t take more then 10 mins so I doubt it would take up allot of time.

:diamond: Cad could probably do it but I am guessing...

I think it would give people something else to do besides mining, now this would take much longer to implement, but maybe if you found a Crystal you would have to \"/dig Ruby\" for it to harvest it or something, but as I said that would probably take more time & probably some programming I think.

:emerald: This could be a petition thread, I it would be a great idea as long as you can\'t earn more money mining per hour (otherwise no-one would mine) Crystal hunt is much more fun (& Dangerous) then mining. Maybe there should be enough spawn points but really long spawn rate so you can\'t just stake-out a Crystal Spawn point.....

:diamond: I would see Crystals a more of a collectable item, maybe someone RP\'ing a Jewler could collect them or pay others to collect them, if they are hard-to-find they are probably great for RP imho.
