money problem
« on: February 08, 2005, 10:21:21 pm »
well i dont know about you..but items sure are expensive and money is hard to get when just about the only way to get it is killing rats and taking there fur
so heres the problem:money is to valuble and items have really expsensive prices....so i suggust you either lower prices or make it easyier to get money.

I had the same problem. Maybe you could join a guild or do a quest?

I have the same problem. I have more progression points than I have money to spend them. I need more ways to get money. So i can spend my points. Any other way to make money other than killing rats and tefusangs.

It will all work out in the end. Just wait till alchemy, smithing, ect. are added.

disagree on easy money
« Reply #6 on: February 09, 2005, 12:10:50 am »
I totally disagree.   The last thing I want is a world where you get what you want too quickly or easily.    Games like that get boring.   If this project develops into everything that I think it can, then I\'d like to play a character that can develop over time with longer term rewards.

But don\'t worry, attention span will grow with age...
I hope...

I\'m so glad I found PlaneShift!    I have limited time to play, but it\'s potential makes me giddy!

G-Lo you are missing the point. It isn\'t that getting points should be easy all of a sudden put when you play a game like this you want to improve yourself some to do fun stuff others to be the strongest around anyhow seeing training isn\'t the only thing money is used for it is very strange to have it so that getting Progressionpoints is easier then getting money. I rather have that making money isn\'t to hard but gaining points is hard so that is what limits a player.

Specially when you see the devs talking about roleplaying needing to be a big part of the game just having hack and slash ways to make money is very strange.

Now I know it\'s only a beta and not planning to leave over it but even as testers you would expect it to be somewhat playable and have to admit I don\'t know if I would continue playing if I was a newb at the moment. Just to hard to get money and advance those first steps like getting your first weapon. I know I have been handing out weapons to newbies becuase I still had some money. Not that much but thought people deserved to have some fun playing the game.

thanks guys, anyway the reason i posted this is
i study ecenomics(probaly spelled wronge)and well in ecenomics money has a set value based on the econemy
and due to how much there is and since just about every thing is so expensive and theres so little money
the trade is not worth the little money we do have, and no offense but i dont want to spend a month just to get a sword i wont even be able to use well for quite some time its just not worth it,but i do reconize the fact that the guys making this game are working on making money easyier to get,so i will merly say i am saying my view on the matter.

You guys are just lazy! In ALL games it takes that long to get money. And as the other guy said--(I totally disagree. The last thing I want is a world where you get what you want too quickly or easily. Games like that get boring. If this project develops into everything that I think it can, then I\'d like to play a character that can develop over time with longer term rewards.)-- if it was to easy to get money the game would get boring FAST! You guys are just like the people that wanted to have an aoto updater. All you are is LAZY.

Hmm....kids now days won\'t every thing fast and easy?

The devs are working on it...

... so why discuss this?

Well, perhaps to give them a hint what we would like to have in the future :))

There will always be 2 opinions, depending on your character: Either you want to have easy success (to avoid getting bored) or you don\'t (then you want to feel like having worked very hard for something to be proud of it).

None of them is wrong, but there is a way to combine them.
I think, the best solution is a medium, like it is done in almost every popular game/rpg: Easy to learn, hard to master.

1st step: Players need a felling of success rather often, to keep playing something - why would you spend your free time on something that is no fun, but rather frustrating or boring?
The easy solution is: give them easy success in getting better stats and bombard them with money. Quite easy to do.
If you are able to get the best items in the game very soon that way and you are soon more powerful than any enemy, the game will indeed gat boring after a short period of enyoing the power.

2nd step: You need to have aims for the medium or distant future, aims you can not achive in a few hours or days of playing.
The easy solution would be to give very little exp for anything you do, or to give as few money as you get atm/make things rather expensive to make ALL stats and item worthy.
If there are no other things you could regard as a success, it will be boring for too many of the players.
The ones who don\'t believe me, take a look at Diablo 2 or WoW - successful games with similar technics like planeshift.

Conclusion: Either you have more things to do (1) (and to succeed at) than gainnig money and exp., or you need to get these rather often (2).
(1) Probelm solved for anyone, if you are able to succeed in these other things rather often.
(2) To keep motivation up in the long run, either there need to be lots of items/stats/monsters or everything is more difficult to get, the more you have already.

I am sure the devs know about it and balance will be restored after everything is implemented :)

Atm, i regard it rather frustrating to run down to the serwers for 2 weeks to notice any success.
Free bonus: Getting killed from time to time by \"robust\" rats or even the slightly stronger ones or gobbles, that i never intended to fight
Characters:
- Shalieso Abugora, male Xacha
- Tarr Rurrokk, Kran

from my perspective, having only been playing the game for a week or so, i have two comments:

1) as a brand new character it might be nice to have a ~little~ money to start off with.  perhaps 100 tria.  so that you can either buy a pick, or have a good start towards your first weapon.  that first stage of punching rats gets a tad tedious when you have a good chance of dying.

2) i would like to see more financial rewards generally available from killing monsters and doing quests.  so far the only monsters i have managed to kill at loot are rats.  gobbles, rogues and clickers don\'t seem to have any.  since i need money at the moment i am killing rats rather than exploring.  i\'d like to be able to do both.  the only quest i have managed to complete is the easy \"fetch the holy script\" quest, and got no money for it.  can\'t find many others, but i hope they give you a reward after completing them, otherwise at this stage i am still stuck killing rats.

well you see if a dinky little longsword has sky high prices then think how much somthing like a firesword(may or maynot be made i dont know...)that be into the millons..and therfore instead of buying swors and other stuff will just live with punching evan though its not as exciting as having a long sword or other sword weapons and ect.and getting them really fast is not what we want we want be able to do it in moderate time not in a month, and rat skins give mabye 3/4 tria each...may aswell keep our pitiful ammunt of money, and atleast piece of junk equipment should be at resonable prices.

Its kinda easy to make money on this game...a little too easy in some areas. I think prices of things should rise.
