The MAC Craze.
« on: March 11, 2005, 05:30:40 pm »
Back in the day I used to consider Mac\'s to be powererful working computers that would be used for business and the likes.

But now so many people are using Mac\'s and despite the fact that they are computer-stupid, they act like they have a PHD in computer science. Its just plane sickening.

I mean, I understand that a few of my friends that are decent programmers use the Mac system bacause it simplifies some things that they realy need. But when my Tech-ED teacher shows of the bright spiny collors that Real Player comes with, and how when you log into another acount there is a cool spiny square, it\'s just pathetic. Ok commander dipshit, I can download those same bright colors onto my WinMediaPlayer, and it should\'nt be to hard to find a program that overcomplicates the switching of users.

That\'s probably the most annoying thing. How many Mac users act like they\'re experts with anything that has to do with comps just because they don\'t use windows....

* I gota go... I\'ll continue my rant when I get home.*

You know, sometimes you\'re ... weird, really really weird. :P

And it doesn\'t count what the user is using, but it does count how the user is :D

Artificial Minority Indignation, and lack of perspective is all.

Personally, I consider Apple the AOL of Computers.

Linux folks often have anti-Microsoft issues as well (though the Unix ones have more of an excuse... I\'ve used Linux, the main difference is you only click once, and zip=tar.  WHOOO.)

But you want to see interesting, check out Amiga fans.  I\'m sure its a great computer and all... but YEESH.  Its a -device-, not a lifestyle.

People will become a fan of just about anything.  *shrugs*

I just use my PC for what its good for.  If it was Linux or Apple or Amiga, I\'d use it the same way.

Windows is the best for YOU, that you\'ve tried.  Apple is the worst for YOU, that you\'ve tried.

Subjective vs. objective.

What a strange thread.

I do research mathematics and I use an Apple laptop.  It has tons of good, free mathematical software that is only available on Unix, Linux and Mac OS X.  Further, the Linux core makes it easy to write and install new software.  Further still, it\'s reliable when I\'m doing heavy computations and doesn\'t crash if I screw up and cause a memory leak.  And further still, making cool animations of some of my research is incredibly easy on a Mac.

Much of this is much more difficult on a PC, as the OS is less stable and efficient, and certainly much less configurable.

Thus I prefer the Mac/Unix marriage.  Just defending a good OS and not telling you you\'re wrong, but maybe you\'re a bit under-informed.

Case and point.

Buddha is able to clearly explain how Mac/Unix is beneficial to his studies in math. As you can see his is not bragging about bright colors, spinning textures, and other cool dohikies. And thus, hed DOES NOT look like an idiot.

From what I\'ve noticed, this is how computer users seem to panout now-a-days.

*  Using comp to check news and read email - Mac

*  Using comp to check news, read emal, and play games - Windows.

*  Has good understanding of a computer, but is not a \"profesional\" - Customized Windows (Changed browser, player, privicy settings, system programms, and other files to own preferences.)

*  Needs a computer to perform specific tasks (like Buddha) - Mac

*  L33T Haxxor (figurativly speaking) - Unix

\'Round these parts they\'re called \"Mac\'ntrashes.\"  I have yet to see a single person brag about using a Mac.
Of course, a lot of people here hate the French because \"They\'ve never won a war.\"  You\'d think better of a purple state.

I agree with Russian about the current spread with the exception of one thing.  E-mail checkers only seem to have buggy Windows.
I had customized windows myself until a portion of my HDD dropped out of existence, with all the dll\'s required for windows.

My perception, and most semi-educated perceptions, is that Macs are for Photoshop.  :P

Frankly I think that macs will never be effective untill they let other people make parts for thier computers. The reason I find the windows and linux machines so effective is the fact parts for them are so unexpensive. You can make a powerfull top of the line computer for less than $1200, if you find the right resources. Macs are a monopoly of sorts. The brand name only works with a small minority of parts, which leads to very expensive machines. If anything, the Windows and Linux machines are better examples of \"freedom\" than the macs are, so on that point the mac people are insane. Windows is always going to be at the top.

It\'s just too deep right now in the consumer\'s mind as the generic brand. It would be innefficient to create a new brand and spend the billions on advertising it would need to beat the generic superbrand. The free linux is much too complicated for the ordinary consumer to pick up and use. Macs only work on a small pool of parts. Windows is the way to go. There\'s nothing wrong with that.

Bill gates may be making billions of money on it, but hell he deserves it. He\'s a marketing genius, and he deserves every cent.

Anyway this line of questioning may make me buy a PC for gaming.
