Falling off the world
« on: April 20, 2005, 09:43:10 pm »
Tried a search for this one with no luck. (Probably useing the wrong keywords :P )

Here goes:

While trying to exit the sewers, via the hole in the ground behind the tavern, I fall off the world everytime.

What happens is as I approach the top of the stairs the wall that they face disappears and I can actually see through to the rest of the town. If I continue up the stairs, turn, or walk backwards back into the sewers the graphics ghost or leave trails. I then fall through the world to my death.

I have tried looking at the ground and walking backwards as I climb the stairs but have yet to successfully exit the sewers at that location.

System Specs:
OS:  Microsoft Windows XP
    Home Edition
    Version 2002
    Service Pack 2

CPU: Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.50GHz

Ram: 750 MB

Video:  Intel(R) 82845G Graphics Controller
   DAC Type: Internal
  Memory Size: 64 MB
  Bios Info: Intel Video BIOS

Running the game in 800 by 600 mode and updater current.

*edit* Seems this has already been reported at http://planeshift3d.com/bugtracker/, and is listed as unconfirmed.

this also happened to me when I went down there recently, but I managed to get in once.  I think you have to stay away from the rock wall at the entrance.  I\'m not too sure, though.  If that doesn\'t work try staying out of the middle of the stairs of something.

But yes, this is a problem.
There are two types of people in this world: The Pinky and the Brain.
Which one are you?

Exactly the same thing happens to me everytime!

Well.. It\'s no problem to enter the sewers.
The problem occurs when i will exit the sewers. I walk up the stairs and get graphics glitches. If i will leave the stairs then i\'ll fall off the world and die.
When i go a little bit downstairs again the glitches are gone. But up again and they\'ll be there again.

its a world break, simply jump into or out of the sewers instead of walking out

though it might be different as I run the mac client, I\'ll talk to dfryer about it.

When I leave the sewer entrance, as soon as my head (Klyros) gets to the level of the ground of Hydlaa, any movement leaves a trail, i.e. each frame sticks on the screen. I\'ll see if I can duplicate the results and post a screenshot, but I have just used the other entrance instead. Also, I have noticed that if you pause on like the 3rd step down, turn to the right and just wait a few moments, the game fixes itself.

Llyando, my housemate who\'s also in the game has said this might be caused by the way the game has been made. Essentially, because when rendering a 3d world, the devs have decided to make the plane of Hydlaa the ground floor, then make sub-floors beneath it. He also says that if in the Steel Blue release, they make the lowest elevation possible to get to in the game the bottom floor and everything above, this may not happen, i.e. the plaza would be something like floor 5 above the sewers. I really have no idea how this works, the most I have ever done is 3d modeling of weapons and fooling around with 2d graphics programs.

When I play again, I\'ll take a screenshot and post it here.

P.S. If a mod reads this and decides it\'s a purely mac related problem, you can delete it, I\'ll repost in the mac forum somewhere. Cheers.

I get the same problem on PCs.  hall of mirrors looking through the world going down the stairs unless I jump half of them.
I\'ve also fallen through the world 3 different times leaving the sewers.

Go to the mac section. You\'ll find the answer about this blur/glitch effect.

Dari is right, in the Mac forum, there is a fix for most of the graphics glitches. However, I have already done that and am still experiencing this problem. My housemate yesterday (running on a PC) experienced the exact same bug as well.

Here is a screenshot:

Hi,
To solve this (quick fix). Run up the steps all the way (dont turn left half way up) and at the top walk to the right around the back of the staircase. Doing this I no longer fell through the wall.

The original poster dosen\'t use a MAC and can\'t seem to find the information in the MAC forum. Can anyone post a link of the post with the fix info in it please?

That Solanon guy is a helpless/useless newb and needs your help.  :P

Solanon isn\'t the only non-mac user having the problem (I\'m getting the same thing on windows machines).  I also get the same visual effects going down the hole, but I\'ve never fallen through the world going that direction (and I find jumping down to the middle or bottom of the stairs avoids it).
Also, trying to jump out of the stairs partway up like someone suggested got me embedded into the non-space behind the walls.
