Jobs
« on: April 29, 2005, 11:08:52 pm »
Having jobs is pretty important.  They will give players a little bit of extra money to help a player buys stuff.  They also will help a more player based government/economy.

Each job will have different advantages and pay.  For instance, a teacher may get +5 int. +5 wisdom, and +1 in each way of magic and start off with a glyph.  They would get like 5 trias per hour.

A miner would get + 5 str +4 mining and a pickaxe.  For money, they would be able to sell ore (iron, coal, gold, platinum, etc.) for twice as much as normal to NPC\'s.

*(keep in mind these are just examples.  Actual numbers could be different)

There would be 2 types of jobs: online jobs and offline jobs.  a player could only have one job.

Online jobs would be jobs where players need to be online to do.  Once a player is online, he or she will automatically begin getting hours for the job.  He or she would get paid per hour online in this case.
An example of this would be City Guards, Miners, Healers, or Trainers.

Offline jobs would be jobs where when a player goes offline, their hours would start count.  They would get paid per hour offline.
An example of this would be teachers, blacksmiths, bar tender, etc.

So, what do you guys think?

----P.S. I also said how city guards could work in my other post on \'\'player governments/thief skills/other stuff\'\' on the wishlist forum----

Hmm... offline jobs? Sounds very strange. An offline job would be pretty OOC, don\'t you think? Being paid for not loggin in...? How can you earn money if you\'re not even playing? Why should inactivity be rewarded?

Explain :)

You do have a good point Moogie.

I think it would be a good idea so that if you can\'t play that often, you can at least have a job and earn some money.  Also, Offline jobs would probably be paid less since usually people are offline more than on (but keep some advantages like for being a teacher, you would get a free glyph).

Online jobs would be advantageous in such that they get paid more and players could actually \'play\' such a role, such as city guards (i mentioned before and also stated an example of how they could work in my thief/player government/other stuff post)

The main reason for having offline jobs would be so that if I don\'t have much time to play, I could still go out and do what ever I want when I do

Another idea, for this ^^^ is to just have some \'active jobs\' and \'inactive jobs\'  where active jobs would be like the online jobs I mentioned and inactive jobs would be like the offline jobs, except that youget paid for how long you are online instead, but you also don\'t play in that job (using the teacher ex.--if you\'re a teacher, an inactive job, you would get paid for how long you are online, but never actually be in a classroom.  You can go exploring like usual.)

I hope this answers your question Moogie.  Please reply soon :)

Also, could you have a look at my                   post, please?
