skill/xp system concern
« on: May 18, 2005, 01:51:24 pm »
hi there,

i like that you try to optimize planeshift as game itself and especially the world/story around planeshift. but i think something is missing or wrong concering the skill/xp system.
in a lot of other posts i read about every little detail the community expects from PS, but i think the skill system needs to be more improved.
ok my thinking: you gain xp and points from e.g. killing monsters  but you can use this (battle gained) points to gain a higher level in a skill that has not to do anything with battle/fighting?
that does not make any sense to me and i think there is no logical way to explain this situation.
in my opinion there should be a progression of xp for every skill (no, this is not impossible, look at morrowind) and so you can gain xp and practise only the skill you used.
fighting for learning to read is an unlogical example as well.

greetings and let the role playing never end :)

I agree with you here, and would like to add that i think its somewhat unrealistic that it is impossible for your character to learn anything without spending money on training. Training should be used as a supplement to in-field experience, not as the main driving force of charecter development.

Wish list thread. Not General Discussion.

Alpha Version 0.3.0XX.

I believe the PS skill system needs no further excuses for being bad, than that.

The current PlaneShift skill system is somewhere between those two. Killing (and mining) gives you progression points you can spend on unrelated skills, but after spending those, you still need to train the actual skill to gain a level. The amount of field training differs per skill.

yes in between but not satisfying. it is unlogical to learn something with xp/points from an unrelated skill.
look at morrowind, there you get xp points for running while you are running e.g.
the traing - practice system is very good and logical but it needs to be improved.

to training for money:
i think training is ok if you think of an unexperienced adventurer as a normal human/creature who can do normal stuff like anybody like cooking,  maybe reading, etc.
so you need advices and training to gain a level better than the normal people around in the world. and we all know, nothing is gratis, espacially training and advices.
perhaps you can be a trainer some day too and gain money with it.

but great great work so far, hope we can help with this reports.

farewell

You might think its not logical, which in truth it isnt, but I like this system so much more than the crappy runescape system which had me fishin for hours so i could get a better level at it, or continuosly cutting down trees and burning them. I find this system more fun and player-friendly.

Now, if they told us how much training cost per, it would help a lot...
I burned a lot of tria on training, and all because I didn\'t know at first...
That is, presuming they don\'t.
Because I\'ve never seen that.
Crazy am I. Not responsable for crazyness that ensues.
