Cant lunch Planeshift!!!
« on: June 12, 2005, 07:31:07 pm »
I cant get planeshift to launch!!! I follow all the instructions from Cha0s guide, download planeshift from main site(PS would start when I double-click on psclient, but wont enter a sever cause not updated yet) , DL the unoffial updater from the forum and put it in the planeshift folder, ran the updater with the update all files box checked. Then DL the setbits in the PS folder and ran that saying it has be set. Then DL the vfs and paste it into the PS folder(without having to replace). Restart the computer and double click PS client in the PS folder(the problem begins here) It open then closes vary fast. I have no idea wut i\'m missing here!!! Right now I am running the unofficial updater again to see if anything would change. I also try using Terminal but dont even know how to use it or doesnt work when I type in \"cd \" nothing happens. Anyone know wut i did wrong??

EDIT: Ran the unofficial updater and it said i\'m up to date.

If you run Cha0s\' updater with \"Update All Files\" checked it will overwrite your .vfs file. Try replacing the .vfs file again.

Yup. Be sure to only run the Updater with \"Update all files\" checked when there is a major version change.

My guess is that something happened to the installation and it didn\'t fully work since in your original post you said the vfs.cfg file didn\'t replace anything. I don\'t know how it would run without the vfs.cfg file in the first place though.

Make sure you\'re downloading the vfs file and not a web link to it. Dragging the little icon in the URL bar creates a link to the page, not the actual page. Make sure you control click the link and actually download the file. Also, is there any output from Console?

I completly reinstall the whole thing in terminal now. when i start the updater and start to update, a window pops up from the updater saying that something is missing and that i need to dl it from the forums or the website. I click OK and it contiunes to dl(so i firgure, wut the hell, it\'s still updating) when it finishes i did the setbits in terminal too, when i enter the two commands nothing happens(like no addation lines of info) and dl vfs and place it in the PS folder(again did not need to replace anything) and same result as before.

You definitely need the error messages from console, or to launch from the command line (search this forum).  Other than that, you need to tell us exactly what the messages are, or else we really don\'t know what you\'re talking about.

Thanks,
Daniel

For me, PS doesn\'t launche when double-clicked. I have to use the terminal :

Code: [Select]
cd /Applications/PlaneShift\\ 3D
./psclient.app/Contents/MacOS/psclient

And it works fine.

You did not replace the vfs.cfg file. If you replace the vfs.cfg file (after you update) it will launch via double-click. See the Guide sticky at the top for a link to the download.

That definitely points the wrong VFS file. The only situation I\'ve seen where PS launches from the Terminal but not double-click is when the VFS file is bad. There *could* be another situation (ask dfryer ;) ), but it\'s probably the VFS. I think the best choice would be to delete the existing vfs, download the linked one, copy it in, and then try again. If you can get it to launch via double-click, the other problem you\'re having should disappear as well.

Ah, that\'s the problem. You need to make sure to save it as vfs.cfg. It may try to turn it into \".txt\" but you have to save it as \"vfs.cfg\" for it to work.

EDIT: modified the guide to specify this

How do I save it as vfs.cfg?? I hold control and click on the link and select save link file to desktop. it turns into vfs.cfg.txt. Just got my mac 3 weeks ago, so i\'m still figuring out stuff.
