Plane Shifting
« on: June 30, 2005, 07:03:58 pm »
Hey guys, I was wondering about Plane Shifting, and how its going to work. Will it *actually* be plane shifting, or will it be just walking through a door? Will it be accessed only by spells (D&D), or anyone can at anytime? Also, will it be classic planes (Elemental planes, out-of-place planes like limbo) or weird planes you guys make up?
I think you should make the elemental planes. I don\'t know why, but I think it fits. Like the diaboliv race, it could be their homeworld. Sorry if I asked too much, thanks!

This is an aspect of the game which is not yet in the public domain. Later more details will be available.

LOL pirates? If you want pirates hope there will be a sea and you can buy a boat or something so you can play a pirate yourself and start yourself a pirate crew ;)

I think a terrifying plane would be a plane in which existed many stuffed fury creatures who are round and cute.  Many would flee the land in search of greener pastures, or spend their days in exile, afraid to return home.

Edit:  My apologies I was drunks a little. ;)

well the 6th (or was it 7th?) level has water, so we could have boats, but whether or not it\'s big enough to fit trading galleons, and war galleon and sloops and brigantines and enough other random ships (no aircraft carriers or battleships... or any other modern ship...) to have an atmosphere of \"the big blue ocean\" is up to the devs. Then again, yliakum could be massive and larger than the galaxy we refer to as the Milky way so I\'m not sure... but it would be fun to be attacked by pirates while innocently moving a shipment of spices somewhere (/me thinks about shipboarding and hand to hand combat and an interesting player history that has something to do with pirating)

as for planeshifting, only those trained enough in the ways should be able to shift, or open a portal to let them do that. (how would a brainless warrior learn to open a portal to the land of flying penguins?) and then those who are not trained enough might mess up and shift into a volcano and burn... but those untrained could shift in special cases like death (if that counts) or  someone using a spell to shoot them into the twisting nether...

but then we\'d have to make spells, effects, formulas, graphics, a system, etc. so planeshifting (and every other wildly elaborate idea we might have) could take a while to implement.

It\'s been said before that there will not be big enough expanses of water to accomodate big ships, galleons and the like. Not sure whether that still stands- but I would expect it does.

Heh heh. I beg to differ. I just destroyed something the size of a cruse ship in my story...with no more water than a small lake. ;) But that is off the subject.

I too wonder how or what planeshifting actualy is. Perhaps a multiverse? Or different dimensions? Who knows untill they tell us. :P

I always thought Planeshift just meant . . . well shifting planes, from this one to Yliakum.  I am excited to hear that there may be more to it than that!
Yliakum, a really big crystal. These are the voyages of the Explorers Guild.  Its ongoing mission: to explore strange new maps, to seek out new life and new NPCs.  To boldly glitch where no one has glitched before.

I had the same idea as Pestilence concerning plane shifting. A world with 7 planes/levels ...
