~Guild Mockers~ Plese Read
« on: July 18, 2005, 01:22:32 am »
I\'ve noticed that people have been making copy guilds, but they have been spelling them wrong, or changed one of the words just to make fun of a certain guild, then they will shout through the Plaza asking people to join.

I think that there should be something added in the guild creation page that fixes grammer, spelling, and everything so that when you create the \'Mock Guild\' it corrects everything right before you create the guild and then it says something like \"There is already a guild by this name\" that way this pointless crap can be avoided.

(Also, don\'t spam my thread by saying \"This is in the wrong forum, go to wish list\" because I\'m also putting it there if a Mod or someone comes and tells me where this thread is supposed to go)

EDIT: Oops, spelled \'Please\' wrong...I\'m not changing it

This would be an ok idea in theory, but its not practical to implement, and i dont think it would be very high on the list of things for the devs to do.  For one, you\'d have to have an automatic spell checker built into PS for it to work, and then what if someone uses a word that the devs didnt think of, then they cant create a guild using that word because it would be automatically corrected.  Say my character is (for example) Yoorserf, and i create Yoorserf\'s Defenders as a guild, but then PS doesnt recognise the word and changes my guild to Yourself\'s Defenders.  Its just not practical.  Guilds can always practise some foresight and register using multiple combinations the most likely and confusing variants.  If anyone is stupid enough to join a guild thats spelt wrongly, well then its probablly doing the proper guild they didnt join a favor.
Anyway, if a guild has a name very similar to yours, and you were clearly first, i suppose you could just present your case to a GM to get them to change the other guild.

I guess so, but I\'m a member of the Chosen Few, and its so annoying when people made names like \"The Chosen Many\" or \"The Chosen None\" then just stood there waiting for someone to notice, but at the same time it was funny that they had all that free time.

I sympathize with you Suno, it must be annoying to have people doing that.  Although I don\'t think this was a mock of my guild, The Paladins, it still was the same type of lameness.  I saw another character with the guild label \"Paladins of Georgia\" or something similar  .  Although I admit, I do like to laugh at that stuf :P because PlaneShift is just a game.

Although I don\'t think the spell and grammar checker would work (VERY creative idea though :D ), tighter GM control over the formation and functioning of guilds would probably be good :) .

Good point.  I was wondering the same thing, heeh.  But one thing though, if the spell/grammar check was implemented, PlaneShift would be educational! :P

The same place they get 8 GM\'s to watch over character creation and stuff? (In regard to character names).  Besides, they wouldn\'t need to constantly look over it, Just act when there\'s a complaint from a Guild.

Suno (weren\'t you the magic user frightening the poor dwarf? :P) you idea of \"Spell Checking\" is great. Although it might be not practical when creating a guild. It should be a toggle.
About guilds like \"Chosen Many\" and such just to make fun of \"Chosen Few\", those will be dealt by the GMs. Write a petition with a complain and the GMs will act.

(I must admit I laughed like hell when I saw \"Chosen Many\", but yeah enough is enough)

There are mock guilds around... for a day or two.  What I am getting tired are the guilds with names that are really boring/ plain and some that are just retarded (Goes for names as well).  I assume most of you know who you are.  Ill give a couple examples of boring name:  Swords, Samarai, and sorry guys.... Paladins.

swords eh...?

well, for a while i think the Swords of Ghent was the only guild starting with \'swords\', but i agree it is not nearly as creative as some other guild names...

but i think intentions are more of a necessity than a completely new and exciting guild name. cause, when it all comes down to it, the guilds with purpose stay.. despite their lack of creativity with the name.

ps- im trying to post a Swords of Ghent thread, but it isn\'t working at the moment.. so look for that soon :)
