I downloaded Planeshift for Mac os x.  I was really excited to play.  Then, I began.  I ran around for awhile and could not do anything....couldn\'t fight enemies, NO QUESTS, Sewer was empty, forest was a tunnel HA.... Nothing goin on.  I realize this is an Alpha but where is the quests and roleplaying.  Just curious b/c Id like to actally play a game and not run around saying hello to the other 3 ppl playing.
thanks ollie

You don\'t want to run around greeting people and talking to them? So what do you want, a solo experience? Sorry, not going to find it here ;) Besides, this is a pre-alpha version, not even alpha.

The quests are broken at the moment, but a large update is looming in the distance with fixes and a lot more content. The sewers are rarely completely empty - and they are very large, so it\'s doubtful that you could check every corner without finding a single NPC or another player. The forest is not a tunnel - is a bridge between maps. Beyond it, to the right is a Magic Shop and to the left are vast, rolling hills, after which is another city, Ojaveda. You haven\'t done nearly enough exploring. You can also mine, besides fight.

But the roleplay is supposed to come from you, and from other players. Check the Hydlaan tavern, someone is usually there and in the mood for RP conversation.

First  thing you can do is make some friends.  There are plenty of friendly faces around.  Go to the sewers, kill some rats and gain a little money to buy a weapon or a pick to mine gold.  And if you want RP go to Kada Els Tavern.  Each day there are plenty of souls who RP there.  And if nothing else play around with the RP section in the forum, or eventually start your own guild based on RP.  The opportunity is there... you just have to make the best of it.

I decided to venture back down there not to long ago... yes, they can be empty.  The NPC spawns are quite glitched at the moment, and in addition to that, not many players bother to go in that deep anyway.  For all intensive purposes, they\'re empty.  PlaneShift is very newbie un-friendly right now.  Supposedly the \"next big update\" will fix it...

Regardless, I still have to agree with Karyuu and Valbrandr.  You can always just go to the plaza and meet some new people.  :)  Allot of the game doesn\'t work yet, but the chat does.  (ok... that\'s glitchy too... but you get the gist...)

Hm, thanks DaveG - I simply always manage to find someone when I\'m in the sewers. But there are always rats in Ojaveda, as I believe those spawns haven\'t suffered as much. There used to be one in the hills, too, and someone mentioned rats in the Arena. So all is not lost :)

I\'ve stopped sending newbies to the sewers, unfortunately.  The warehouse in Akkaio is probably your best bet, though I\'d imagine it\'s getting crowded now.  At this point, mining is beginning to look good...

1. Fighting is still the backbone of the economy, even if there is mining, as you need to loot rat corpses to get the trias for the picks.

2. It might as well be, with the painted on trees, linear path, and almost completely covered sky.

Good points, Cyrus, but the player clearly has not explored enough of the world to realize that there are places beyond the map-transition, that too offer newbie-friendly rat spawns. That was my main point - there is still more to explore before deciding that there is absolutely nothing to do.

psssst! come over to the dark side! Watch for one of the Power Levelers who rush over to Harnquist, cash in their lewt, and rush back out of the city! Follow them to Tef Valley and watch them slay the mighty Tefs with 4 or 5 blows of their uberleet skillz! Pretend to try and steal one of their Tefs by acting like yer fighting it! (Don\'t actually succeed if yer a true noob cause a tef will hand you yer newbie rear and send ya packin to the Death Realm, lol) After trying to steal the Tef and of course failing to the awesome skillz of the uberleet PL\'er, make admiring noises to butter him/her up such as \"ooh! What big muskles you have, oh Lord Of Leetness!\" and \"Wow! How do you hit so hard!\" and \"hey, do you think I can kill this rat over here?\" What? You noobs didn\'t know there are rats in the Valley of the Tefs now? LOL

Well, we don\'t like to tell the noobs that because they pull the tefs, get killed by em or run for the hills dragging them out of Tef Valley, and then us UberLeet PL\'ers have to run all over the hills hunting them down.

Hmm, even the PL\'ers are gonna hate me now. Oh well, it could be worse, I could mention the rat at the moneymak..uh look! up in the sky! It\'s a bird! LOL

Anyway, after going thru that rear-kissing routine, humbly ask me some sensible questions. Don\'t ask me if you can group with me ya noobish! Do you know how long it takes me to collect 218 Tef Teeth??? Course if I\'m bored and feel like showing off, I might group with ya just so I can show off my ability to kill multiple Tefs with the BeerMugODeath! Muah hah hah!

So come over to the dark side! Be a Power Leveler! Riches and Rewards will be yours! Course not as much as my riches and rewards ya noob, cause my skillz are tha bomb!

/me chuckles and drinks some more beer
I\'m the Dwarf in the shortpants. No the other Dwarf in the shortpants!

Two words, which can answer most of these type of questions: pre alpha.

Some things are broken at the moment, some things havnt been implemented.  Levelling up is an extremely time consuming and worthless exercise at the moment, try talking to people instead.

It is only a personal thought but i think that roleplaying isn\'t about killing a bunch of monsters, powerlevels or quests, it is about ppl interacting with each other. (especialy since this is a pre-alpha)
After all this is a MMORPG not a RPG.
So, go out there and live your storry, make friends find out about they\'re bacground, drink a mug of ale at the tavern (drinks are free atm ;) ) and enjoy :) .

*nods* Couldn\'t have said it better myself. Well, ok, I could have, but it sounded like a nice thing to say. :D

Of what I have seen so far it is an amazing game. I find the exploring great when not conversing with others. I also enjoyed the bashing. I did not know the mining was up yet. I would like to do that too and make armor. THe game is more fun if you talk to people. Like they said it is a MMORPG not a RPG. That means there is cooperative playing, group hunting, and other fun stuff that is better done in groups. I can\'t wait until the Quests are up. I like trying to figure out hard ones. When you are stuck too long it is good to have people to help also. Only when you need help though.

The darkness falters the Creator comes
The bonds are broken from the lost lambs
The healer renews His people for the war
Evil has no place to hide no more
For the righteous renewed now stand
