« on: September 03, 2005, 04:37:59 am »
i finally had time to try the linux client and this problemn existed in 3.009 as well and quite possibly 3.01. i played in windows with 3.01 since i did ot oike the quality of the linux version. well this  is annoying to witness and this is from the latest linux client. i do not experience this problem with windows. if i experienced it with both i\'d report it to the PS team too fix.

my linux O.S. is mandrake/mandriva 10
cpu AMD athalon 2500+
graphic card NVidia Geforce MX440 64 mb
memory/ram  256 MB

Sorry Hirato, but I have used the linux client since the MB CB migration and haven\'t experienced this problem, but looking at your system specs you seem very light on ram. PS advise a minimum of 512mb ram and say that while the game will run on 256mb it will do so badly.

regards
John

*my own experiences with a lack of ram (256mb) had the frame rate running so slowly the game was almost unplayable, but now having added 1gb (1.25gb) have no probs at all :)

1. Run the updater.
2. Run pssetup and:
- Disable sound.
- Relight maps.
3. Set in client options adaptive camera stuff.

And it should run quite ok. ;)

platyna i do not experienec this problem on windows and windows and linux for me is on the same PC. also in 3.009 i tried copying the windows maps files into the linux ones. the copy succeeded but the view still remained so.
but my FPS is fine as long as i stay out of Hydlaa and the arena but i will try what you said but i strangely don\'t think it will work

PS i hope this is fixed soon

It is not an argument that the problem not occurs on Windows. You may have
a misconfiguration on your Linux system. See if your graphic card drivers are
upgraded and if you don\'t have any memory hog running. Is that UPDATE3?

update3 doesn\'t have the pssound-problem for me anymore, so you probably don\'t have update3. have a look at platynas warehouse and download update3 :)
after that, follow her advise on configuring psclient.
you should be happy afterwards :)

btw: how big is your swap-partition? you have one, don\'t you?

appears the problem was with my distro (mandrake 10)
well i\'ve replaced it with Suse 9.3 and this problem was fixed. but now its very slow. i get 1 frame every 2 or 3 seconds. so can i get some advice. its way to hard to optimise the game in the option screen ingame.  and somehow the setup application is slowed as well.

and booing my swap partition is 400MB or so. an don\'t tell em to make it bigger sicne i do not know how.

Edit 1 i\'ve been doign some mroe testing appears my 3D card is not configured. i think if it is it might perform better. and i do not know how so soem help will be nice.

Edit 2 sorry. i\'ve fixed the error on ym system 3D accelaration is now enabled. just left to test it with planeshift.

Edit 3 i\'ve tested it. appears this problem is for mandriva linux 10 now with suse 9.3 the fps is much higher and i\'m happy this is fixed
