Maps with higher brightness
« on: September 18, 2005, 02:23:49 pm »
I would like to see in the future that the brightness will be higher ( in the night, sewers, the forrest and deathrealm) and sometimes I cant see a thing ( not even my character or the world around me! ).

And here\'s the \"WHY Q\"
There has been a few times I got stuck in a place and it took me along time to get out( a few hours once ) o.O

Well, it\'s realistic that at night, it\'s too dark to see and it\'s too dark to do anything.  People sleep instead.

But, it\'s also realistic to have a lantern, torch, or other portable light-source.

1: I did not mean so mutch the night, more the others.
2: Sorry, didn\'t know there was torches and stuff.

Where might I find a torch or a lantern?

No, there aren\'t any torches or lanterns.  There should be, but there aren\'t.

oh yes sorry... i forgot to put that no one has found a cure yet... it happens to all of us... either log out and in or wait for the PS hour to change... if that doesnt work then hopefully some other people will post how they fix it for themselves...

and there is another thing i have noticed... some sector chagnes are lighter or darker than others...

and i cant find my one of going into the forest but im sure you all have noticed it...

I experience unplayable darkness at times (usually during the evening and early morning) and came across this:

Assuming the client is on a Windows platform:
1.    right-click the shortcut to psclient.exe (Planeshift)
2.    click properties
3.    locate the target for the shortcut

  eg.  \"D:\\games\\PlaneShift Crystal Blue\\psclient.exe\"

4.    add this to the end of that target ->  -nolightmapping

5.    apply the change and run the game.

It takes away from the realism of the lighting, makes things look a wee bit strange ... but when you can\'t see a thing, sacrifices can be made.

Maps with a higher brightness would also cause the black glitch to do unexpected things, best to fix that bug before trying this

Keep in mind that darkness and the black glitch are two different things, and that we need to be very clear about which one we\'re talking about in discussions.

i think the night darkness starts and a little and ends a little late, though it a good start, i have one in bug section with a screenshot where you can\'t see a thing though it goes away, the section bugs i notice alot, but so far the darkness is alright, it is just the pitch black bug that is a bit annoying

Yes, there are a few problems with the lights- each map has it\'s own lights attached, and then there are more lights added, and others that depend on toher things, etc. It\'s all needed for a fully realistic system, however, it\'s very complex. And whenever something is that complex, it can have problems.
I personaly use -Nolightmapping all the time, but that\'s because I don\'t really care what things look like ;) I was using 1/16 downsampling for a while, but it didn\'t help my perforamce nearly as much.
Relighting can help some people, but as I posted in the linux forum, it\'s not a good idea to have end users relight. And the maps have already been relighted by the devs, the problem is that the files should be the same but are not. Something is going wrong there, and I have no idea about how :P
