*sighs*

I wish our link became a solution, not a problem.

I\'m getting this error from the patch installer updater

*** glibc detected *** free(): invalid pointer: 0x08548314 ***

I\'ve put the bittorrent link to the full linux installer in the releases post. You might have better luck with that as it comes with all the art.

Told my server to seed the torrent with upload-rate of 300KBytes/sec......
But there\'s only one 100% atm and this one\'s slow :/

*UPDATE*: Got it right now but I\'m gonna take my server off, this thing segfaults, too :/
If anyone wants to help, here\'s the output of strace: http://kripton.kripserver.net/self/trace

*UPDATE2*:
running the installer with \"./PlaneShift_CBV0.3.013.i686.bin --mode xwindow\" as explained here: http://www.planeshift3d.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=22262&boardid=41
helped; server back on, seeding with 500KBytes/sec =D

Thanks, I got better luck with the installer I downloaded with bit torrent. However, the game has an issue: It crashes everytime I swap  windows.

It doesn\'t seem to send any kind of error message, just mentions it had a Segmentation Fault.

Most likely you have disabled sound in the setup. This is a bug (already fixed in CVS) that the game tries to mute sounds when the game window loses focus even if the sound engine is not initialized and therefore crashes. Enabling sound should fix that.

I have a buggy display, when it starts up there are black patches in planeshift display that don\'t display anything except the mousetrail if I go over it. The output from running it is as follows
Code: [Select]
DEBUG: Sound System: Software Renderer Initializing..
DEBUG: Sound System: Configured for driver [crystalspace.sndsys.software.driver.oss]
Sound System: OSS driver for software sound renderer initialized.
  Indirect rendering may indicate a flawed OpenGL setup if you run on a local
  X server.
crystalspace.SndSys.driver.software.oss:  Sound System: OSS Driver: Failed to open output device [/dev/dsp].
Warning: Cannot convert string \"vlines2\" to type Pixmap
Warning: Missing charsets in String to FontSet conversion
Warning: Unable to load any usable fontset
crystalspace.sndsys.renderer.software:  Sound System: SoundDriver->Open() failed!
Warning: Cannot convert string \"vlines2\" to type Pixmap

planeshift.application.client:
  PlaneShift Crystal Blue
  This game uses Crystal Space Engine created by Jorrit and others
  0.99 r0 [Unix-x86-GCC]
All LOGS are off.
Mounting skin: /this/art/skins/default.zip
Mounting skin: /planeshift/art/skins/base/client_base.zip
  psEngine initialized.
Using fontsize 16 for resolution 1024x768
from looking at this I would sound would be my only issue = \\

I\'ve got the same problem as lanser: when run the updater (in auto mode), it gives the following output:-

Critical files () not found (Server only)
NOTIFY: psUpdaterEngine initialized.
Checking registry version...
Server error 301 (http://psmirror.pfdev.net/psupdater/version.dat)
Couldn\'t connect to mirror mir1!
Trying mirror mir2..
*** glibc detected *** free(): invalid pointer: 0x085473ac ***
Aborted

If I run it in interactive mode, the window displays fine but you get the same error when you click to update.  The game itself runs fine.

Using Debian on i686, libc6 2.3.6-2.

If your updater is crashing, save this file to your PS dir overwriting the file that is there atm;

http://www.xordan.com/up

Then try running the updater again. (./updater)

Thanks Xordan, updater works for me now using your file.

Edit:  Aargh!  Yes, the installer works for me now, but I\'m now getting a similar free() message when I try to run the client instead, which worked okay before.

I\'m just downloading the full release from the .torrent in the Installing PlaneShift on Linux thread to see if that works - I\'d used the torrent on the PlaneShift download page originally, so don\'t know whether that was a different one or not.  Fingers crossed, but if this one doesn\'t work I\'m stuck again.

Delete the version.dat file in your PS dir. Should fix the crash.

All updated and working now, thanks.  Removing the version.dat fixed it.

I\'ve just tried out the new installer for 0.3.014b, and while the installer itself runs very well, there\'s a problem which you may not have considered if you\'re running a 64-bit machine without 32-bit binary support.

In that case, you can\'t use the installer, since it\'s 32-bit, though if you run the installer on a 32-bit system and select 64-bit, then copy the resulting directory over, everything\'s fine.

Ideally, I think it\'d be best if there was a 64-bit binary of the installer too.

I\'ve requested it. I think it would be good to have as well.
