Why isn\'t planeshift built using a shar style archive like the way the loki installers do?  That way a architecture agnostic bash shell script would start up and kick start and detect WHAT you are running and trigger the correct binary setup to install the data.  It would seem that would solve many of the problems people are having with the current installer..

Huh? Architecture has nothing to do with those problems.... I don\'t follow your reasoning. And if it\'s a problem with glibc 2.4, well it\'s not my problem if distros use barely released software with bugs in and things break.

The Istaller worked good for me too but with some issues with sblive,

Linux Debian 2.6.12 Enlightenment P4 CPU 2600 Ghz Nvidia 5200

When using sb 128 pci I didn't have problems at all also not after upgrading.
But when I replaced the soundcard with SBLIVE 5.1 (full duplex) It sometimes segfaulted
and after upgrading Planeshift I had no sound at all, but no more segfaults.

on dapper you can't execute the binary by double clicking and hitting run, nor by ./installername.bin

instead you MUST use      sh installername.bin

Thanks for the reply Induane,

but it seems there is no way I can start the installer via sh installername.bin.
Whether as root nor after chmodding it nor after renaming it. I downloaded a fresh installer (md5 checked) before.
In fact the only two ways to get it started are by using ./installername.bin or by doubleclicking on it.

you are running amd64 right?... ok just read your specs... and yes you are lol.. I really did have the same issue as you but sh insertnameofinstallerfilehere.bin worked for me... try this:  I believe that there is an option to run in text mode only... I can't remember it off the top of my head but try this:

reboot machine - hit escape while its starting up (where you see hit escape to load grub menu)
and select the first "recovery mode"

this will load you into a text only environment.  cd into the dir with the file in it. Then, try running it - either with ,/ or sh and try with --help or --? or something to see if there is a commandline only version.. see if it will run there.

Yeah, you can run the installer from the commandline when you're not running X.

Hi guys,

I\'d appreciate it if you could post any feedback on the installer in this thread. Post both bugs and feature requests...

Type: Bug (?)
Description: When running PlaneShift_CBV0.3.014b.bin it only segfaults, doesn't matter if you're root or a user.
The md5sum is 7ae56d4dfb3377f8525c266818933367, downloaded from bittorrent (corrupt?). It'd be very nice to put the md5sum for Linux in the download's page (there are for all the other oses ;) )

$ cat /etc/redhat-release
Fedora Core release 5 (Bordeaux)

$ uname -a
Linux master1 2.6.16-1.2096_FC5 #1 Wed Apr 19 05:14:36 EDT 2006 i686 athlon i386 GNU/Linux

Thanks,

I have the .015 running on windows no problem, its the linux one i need help on. I downloaded it to my desktop and of course i tried to install it from my account, then saw this thread. I rebooted into recovory mode, chmod +X'd it and then ./'d it, said it was unable to run it because it might not be complete, i also tried to use sh with the +x and without, still no go. Im running Ubuntu 6.06 Dapper Drake on an nvidia Geforce 440MX

Why did you run it in recovery mode? Just open a terminal and ./ it.
