This game has unbalanced spells...
« on: October 24, 2005, 05:46:38 pm »
I understand this game is under development, but those spells are overpriced OR way too weak to be useful.
I mean, those spells do a nice damage for beginners, but beginners dont have the money to buy them. Next when you get the money, they are way too weak for you. If those spells are meant to be very-low-end spells, prices must be dropped, or if not, the power inceased. Only spell i found useful later on is defensive wind, and thats not much. I dont want all-killing tank mages to this game, but a character should to be able to live as mage, which is now impossible. Im not asking for new spells. Im asking balance to the spells BECAUSE now only very few people can use them effectively. Say, way too few. Then, could it be possible to make something like \"levels\" of the spells. I mean you can buy a \"weak glyph of (name of the glyph)\" and \"potent glyph of (name of the glyph)\"  while weak glyph is cheaper and does small damage and good for beginner mage-type characters and potent is better for more exprienced ones.
Whatever, if this problem gets fixed. The magic system is already pretty complicated, should it be unusable and so rare  no one thinks its worth effort?

The Devs are definitely aware of that problem, as they have been for a while. There is still a lot of work that needs to be done on magic, especially in balancing it out.

It is however the point that magic is relatively rare, in other words they don\'t want to see everyone running around killing things with fireballs so I don\'t expect prices to be dropped much. Not too long ago glyphs were twice as expensive. Magic will probably be something for the more fortunate individuals.

Yeah.... glyphs used to be 2,000 trias, and that was when only rats and tefusang dropped loot.  2,000 trias was a heck of a lot.

I think that basic spells -- the glyphs which exist right now -- are weak and basic.  They should be available to new players for the same cost as a sword.  Further, they should stay weak...

And the new spells should be considerably more powerful, and considerably more expensive.  Make the old glyphs 200 trias each... make the new glyphs 2,000 trias each.

I\'m all for stratification of the player base, but I\'m also an advocate of specialization.  If you want to RP a mage character, it only makes sense that you should be able to go straight to a study of magic.

As has been mentioned numerous times, the development team is prioritising feature and content creation above balancing. Major balancing will commense after more systems are in place and working properly.

Yes, we all know that.  It\'s just that a lot of the playability and ballance issues ~seem~ like they could be fixed by changing a few simply values in the game\'s mechanics.  Emphasis on the \"seem\", since it isn\'t completely accurate.
