0.3.012 "unexpectedly quits"
« on: November 04, 2005, 10:08:56 pm »
Howdy all!

I just updated to 0.3.012 using the updater. When I try to run the psclient, it \"unexpectedlt quits\" before the program can start. I tried restarting my machine, but the same thing happens. Any ideas out there?

Thanks

Same thing happens herewith me. But it does the same with the pssetup.app too. I\'m working on it. Could still be something I\'ve done...

I\'ve also noticed that when I look at the psclient in the Finder, it still says it\'s 0.3.011. Perhaps it\'s best to download the whole thing from scratch?...

I did all those things even before I posted guppy. This is the relevant part of my console report I think:

dyld: NSLinkModule() error
dyld: Library not loaded: /sw/lib/libfreetype.6.dylib
  Referenced from: /Applications/Planeshift3D/pssetup.app/Contents/Resources/freefnt2.csbundle
  Reason: image not found

I\'ve run the updater 4 times now. twice from the .app and twice from the .jar

no luck.

I\'ve now also posted me specs in the specs thread and checked out the other two. However, I can\'t seem to find helpful info. Below is the crash log:

I\'m pretty sure my problems don\'t stem from the server being down. I ran the updater for a 5th time and now all in the sudden it seems to have found 54 more Mb to update. Go figure.

Thanks for the advice tho gupp. I admire anyone taking the time to try to help.

There\'s two issues here.

pssetup: I removed a lib that shouldn\'t have been removed, perhaps.  I\'ll look in the update manually and see what the picture is.

psclient: Something is clearly wrong with skin loading.  Are you using Cha0s\'s updater or the Planeshift updater?  If you\'re using the Planeshift updater, open updaterconfig.xml in textedit and look for the portion that begins:

        art
        data

and make sure it includes root:

        art
        data
        docs
        root

Then run the updater again, and preferably report back.

Thanks!
Daniel

Hi Daniel,

The updaterconfig file included what you said it should. I tried it again with no luck. I tried the Java updater (ChaOs\'s?) which seemed to get psclient to work, but not pssetup which still quits first thing.

Thanks for your help!

PSClient and PSSetup both unexpectedly quit
« Reply #11 on: November 05, 2005, 05:24:02 am »
I downloaded a \"fresh\" install of PlaneShift 0.3.011 as I posted earlier in the User System Specs thread, ran the updater and got unexpected quits:

PowerMac
10.4.2
DP 2.5 GHz G5
2.5 GB RAM
ATI Radeon 9600 XT, 128 MB

After reading dfryer\'s post, I edited updaterconfig.xml to include the root module, and ran the updater...twice (just in case).  Still the same problem.

I am using the updater.app, version 1.0.2.8.

Please, if anyone out there is actually running the Client and can get into the game, speak up and let us know how you did it!  :)

Yes, pssetup definitely seems to be missing something. dfryer\'ll iron it out in a day or two. ;)

Unexpectiantly quitting
« Reply #13 on: November 05, 2005, 05:25:43 am »
I was told that the \"Unexpectantly quitting\" problem was related with the NVIDIA video cards, and it doesnt have anything to do with servers down.

Read the IMportant topics at top of forum about NVIDIA cards messing up planeshift for us...(also heard sumthing about Mac OSX 10.3.9 quitting..bleh. its a free product i\'ll kill anybody who complains)

0.3.012 Working!!! and a few comments
« Reply #14 on: November 05, 2005, 06:39:21 am »
All righty!

It turns out that not all updaters are the same, according to the \"3.012 Released!\" thread:
http://www.planeshift3d.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=20280&boardid=32&styleid=3&sid=9a804f98bfb3105f9f52ad894d11a236

I used the .jar updater method given in the \"Guide to Running Planeshift on the Mac\" thread (\"Sticky,\" third from top).

I changed the screen resolution in planeshift.cfg file so I wasn\'t stuck with a teeny window, and I\'ve successfully logged in!

I\'m glad to see that the infamous fall damage is not quite so horrendous as first described..I only take a little damage running down stairs.  :P

The text in the windows is too large, I\'ll browse around for the right .xml file to fix that, and hopefully find out how to enlarge the tiny label text on all the players and NPCs.

Movement is sluggish, and not due to lag, I have a 260ms ping.  The interface doesn\'t feel quite as snappy as it used to.  When rotating my character, it\'s as if he\'s sliding in molasses.

Once I find out how to fix the text issues, I\'ll try to locate the right thread to post in, if someone hasn\'t beaten me to it.

Woohoo!
