Can't join / Create new character
« on: December 05, 2005, 12:12:22 am »
I was playing earlier today with no issues and then I left to do some RL things and when I come back I can\'t join the game. One of my characters isn\'t listed and I don\'t have an option to join the game with my other and I don\'t have the option to create a new character.

The server is up with 55 people, so obviously they are playing.

My account is: prziborowski@gmail.com

I tried making a new account to see if there was just a problem with my account but on the new account it doesn\'t progress after picking my race and name.

I ran the updater in both modes and there weren\'t any files to pick up. I guess I will redownload the whole thing but in the mean time I was wondering if this is a new problem or not.

There was some reports, not so long ago, of people not being able to click the \"next\" button, and they couldn\'t create chars or log in.
There were some problems with the client waiting for server data, but that seems to be solved by now, and anyway, after another try you\'d had been able to play, so, if I recall correctly the other cause for those errors was merely graphical, I know it\'s weird since you were already playing the game, but I\'d try updating the graphic card drivers before hav?ng to redownload the whole game again.
Are there any MoonSeekers left?

I wouldn\'t think it was be a graphic driver problem since I played it before with no changes. I think it is an issue of the server not sending me all of the data.

I guess I will do what I can to debug this for the time being.

I was able to crash my client messing around though. After trying to create a new character, then going back and trying again. The CP is set to -1 and it checks to make sure I have a name, but doesn\'t change for a race this time and creates an exception.

I have just finished installing this game and running the updater.

I start the game, register an account, log into the server and go to create an avatar and get stuck with not being able to click NEXT.

What is going on?

I hav the latest video drivers for my card and I don\'t see any graphical problems while trying to create the character.

I\'m having the same problem.  I\'m brand new, I\'ve never been in the game before.  I was able to click on \"Path\" once and got a message about hitting next (which I am assuming is normal) but I wasn\'t able to proceed nor have I been able to duplicate the message.  CP jumps between 0 and -1 (I\'m not sure what this means though).  I suggested the game to a friend of mine also and they are having the same problem.
I know all my drivers are correct as are theirs.

Same stuff happening here. Can\'t get past the creating a character screen where you select the race/name. CP switches between 0 and -1 (character points?). Has to be on the server\'s end. I bet they\'re working on it. I\'ll try again tomorrow.

Same here.. unable to create a character...

Pretty easy to reproduce:

Environment:

Windows 2000 on a pretty standard machine with all drivers up to date.

Steps:

1. On a clean machine, install PlaneShift from Bittorrent (as listed from the download page).

2. Register a new e-mail/password for the server.

3. Run the PlaneShift updater.  By the time this finishes, you may have several new grey hairs you may not have had before.

4. Run the client (PlaneShift Tech Demo).

5. Log in with the aformentioned e-mail/password (from step 2).

6. Choose \'New Character\'... you\'ll have to, as you won\'t have any characters.

7. Give the character a random name, then Kran (or any other race you support).

8. Click on either Next or Paths.

Expected results:

Character generation can continue.

Actual results:

You can hear the button \'click\' when you use the mouse to click on these buttons, but nothing actually happens.  Several of the other buttons work without issue, but you cannot actually get started with the game.

Just joined and downloaded the client. All was well, until I tried to hit \"Next\" or \"Path\". Nothing form that point on. I could hit \"Prev\" and go backward, but not anything past selecting an avatar and a name.

I was watching my network lights, when i noticed that the activity light for my node blinks when i click the next button.  This tells me that the info to move on is sent, but the server is eather: Not responding, Not sending, or my router is blocking the communications port.  The latter seems odd and unlikly, because the server has authenticated my user name as password, when i log on.  Could a mod or programer tell me what the comunication ports are, because i have already tryed 7777, but that has no effect.  I hope that this helps.

Same exact problem.

I\'m running on OSX 10.4.  I take it\'s expands to the other platforms as well.

Alright, it seems the server is indead not sending the correct info to anyone who tries to create a character right now.  However, people made new characters earlier today, so it seems it works some of the time. Try again later and see if it works then.
Meanwhile, I\'m seeing if i can do anything. So far I fixed an unrelated crash.

I\'m suprised how many new people showed up to this tread to report the problem. I wonder how many others downloaded the game today and just gave up. Anyways, cutos to all us newbies! BTW it still doesnt work.

i am suprised we have not had a post from a mod yet.
Karyuu is on right now. maby they are waiting for acraig to look into this, because it looks server realited, and he is one of the head programers. He also takes care of most server end problems.
