Crafters need a steady source of refined ore and raw ore.
If a guild can supply itself with such materials, it doesn\'t need to go through another party.
This simple example proves that specialization is in fact less efficient. Chad Mulligan said so himself, if you\'re familiar with him. :-D
If certain areas become dangerous and necessitate protection, and certain activities necessitate that certain materials move through those areas, then it\'s also advantageous for a guild to further diversify such that it can provide itself with protection rather than have to rely on another party.
Draklar, you might know a thing or to about economics, but you might want to get a refresher course on common sense.
