the day guns come to planeshift, i will shoot myself ;)
 :ban:
on earth, we use guns to stick hole in people, simply because thats how we do it. in planeshift, we have magic. if, from 3000 years ago, we had the ability  to wave our hands and burn a hole in someones chest, the idea of using tools to do it simply wouldnt occour to us.

i love the idea of poison tipped blades, from a professional opoint of view. it would involve a long process involving hunting or trapping poisonous creatures, by a hunter, processing the venom by an alcamist, and finally the archer ( for e.g. ) would need training in the use of poisons. in short it would provide valuable job opertunitys whilst enabling people to roleplay various assassin types and

Blunderbusses were invented in the middle/late Middle Ages, they were basically muskets with a funnel at the end of the barrel so you could put some gunpowder (which should be rediculously expensive), then load in old nails, bits of glass, sharp rocks and all sorts of junk in there.

All those first things were good for was basically scaring horses enough to toss their riders off with the noise they made. They were completely inaccurate and hardly more damaging than when you'd throw its content towards your enemy.

I would have to disagree Zan.
I watched a program on the discovery channel where a guy used a Blunderbuss to blow apart a chunk of 3" thick oak, from 50 yards; useing a carrot rhine for ammo. It was really amazing.

I think you might have missed out on two important words "First things" .. I wasn't talking about the older generation of firearms that actually look like guns already. Guess I should have specified what I was talking about a bit more. What I was talking about were the very first generations of handcannons, which is literally what they were .. a downsized cannon on a stick that could be carried by a soldier. And I've seen those live at work.

We're forgettings another thing not ever talked about or implemented yet, but it is just like the swords and daggers are in PS.... MACES! MACES ROCK! They're fast, spiky, and super-effective against chainmail. And... SPIKED MACES! Yay!  \\o// \\o// \\o//
Maybe it'll be there when the  :beta: version comes out, remember it's only Alpha now...  :-X

I see your point, and on that i do agree. I bet it was scary for the user, not knowing if the thing would blowup in your face or not.

guns, cannons,... etc are to effective for me, i mean point a cannon at a player and if you think a little realistic (which planeshift is aiming at) you would die in one hit... a gun would give the monster or player 2/3 shots to survive if he's aimed at... so i shouldn't ruin the game because as happened in the late middle ages : guns and cannons were effective so no one will use bows and swords...
conclusion: most players will buy themselves a gun and will buy cannons... that would really spoil the game don't you think? :)

hmm.... using herbal to create vile poisons and toxins, equipping on the edge of a falchion and using the backstab skill. i think it would be a good idea to release those 3 round about the same time, eh? ah, what do i know?

can't have guns or cannons because: 1) they aren't fantasy weapons 2) they arn'te primitive weapons like swords 3) if we have guns and cannons we need really really big gunpowder-filled bombs...and taht is just not cool

Yeah... and if you have gunpowder filled bombs you you'll need missles, nuclear weapons, laser swords, death stars and finally you end up every jerk running around with hactars ultimate weapon (that would connect every major sun in the universe through a hyperspace junction, causing every star to go supernova) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minor_characters_from_The_Hitchhiker%27s_Guide_to_the_Galaxy#Hactar
Well and then... one day a nooby runs into an especially fierce rat and BOOOM thats it with the noobie, the sewers, hydlaa, Yliakum and everything...
(we are definitly missing some flashing and smoking exploticons to add into this text!)
In short: I think bows and throwing weapons are really sufficient.
You think I cannot kill this Ulbers?

I think the magic-powder gun from the Faerun campaigns of Dungeons and Dragons were neat! And how the hell would guns lead to
the Death Star and... wtf was it... a Hactar? I mean, we don't even know if certain elements would work the same in magic realms
as it does in the real world, to blow the $%!& out the @$$, we don't even know if what we're all mentioning is even close to
being accurate, because all we are really looking at is Star Wars when we should focus on PlaneShift.
:offtopic: How in Laanx's name did the mentioning of projectile weapons did we get NOOB?!?!
