I find that the tavern, which shouls be a place where Rpers can come and...well...RP, is mostly empty. One of my chars is a musician, and i know many who would gladly bartend, so why don't we all try and go down to Kada El's more frequently, it could really improve PS's RP.

PS's roleplaying happens everywhere, not only inside the Tavern walls. I already talked about this in another thread not too long ago.

Personally I'm not for roleplaying in the tavern because it is very limiting towards roleplaying to sit in a place and ... well just sit there I go to the tavern when I want something to eat or something to drink. Maybe when I want to talk a bit but most of my roleplaying happens when my characters are out in the world doing their job, be it mining, merchanting or guarding.

I'm sure there are still people who visit Kada-el's tavern frequently though. Me, you'll have a better chance of finding at the Broken Door.

One "disadvantage" of the tavern is that some people would have to take a quite boring job of a bartender or waiter seriously - and we don't have too many of those serious roleplayers. Therefore, many thanks again to Maanar Ilde, who did that for months, and to all who tried hard to stay at least for weeks.

I never find anyone to RP with, and as far as i know if i can't find them they can't find me
So, i think we should make an area, where people that want to RP can hjang out, and the tavern is the best place for this,unless you have more swuggestions.

I have had many good roleplays in the tavern. I think maybe you perhaps went on a slow day? Anyway roleplaying as Zan said does not just happen in the tavern. I find when I am visiting with a group of friends in the wilds someone will say "Hey lets got to the tavern for a drink." Most will agree and we will go to the tavern for a drink. We will sit there and discuss our "lives" in Yliakum and then break off to go do roleplay outside the tavern walls again. I find this very realistic. My suggest is if you are finding that the tavern isn't busy enough for you, invite some friends. Waiting for roleplay to find you however can turn out to be a boring mistake.

What I do is simply let everyone know that I'm a roleplayer by using the /me command a lot. Whenever I'm mining I start out by setting my backpack down, getting my pick axe out and maybe even using a falka lamp, depending on where I'm mining. Something like that makes it very obvious I'm roleplaying to the people around me and almost all the time people pick up on that. They greet me, talk to me and we're off ...

This is just an example but it can be done anywhere and at any time .. you can attract roleplaying very subtly by simply making it clear that you are roleplaying. Just talk about some in-character things or use a lot of /me command actions to clarify what your character is doing. You're bound to run into roleplayers everywhere, not just the tavern but the trick is letting them know you're one of them Wink

I have to ask this and pardon me for doing so. How do you RP as a muscian   Do you just describe all of your songs or something and type lyrics? I dont mean to offend but I just can imagine RP music as being very pleasing to the ears

Well for one you must have an imagination.

For example (With the slash /me command of course):

Zorbels pulls out her panflute for her bag and puts it to her mouth blowing gently on it while moving her fingers over the holes. As she blows softly a smooth light melody escapes the instrument catching the crowds attention.

Zorbels then picks up the beat and begins to play a melody with speed as she notices out of the corner of her eye ... the dwarfs in the tavern are enjoying it. They begin to tap their toes and legs with their hands while nodding to the music.

As for discribing lyrics all you have to do is this...

Zorbel begins to sing in a soft voice "Blah blah blah blah." (can't think of any lyrics at the moment)
Zorbels then takes a deep breath for the solo and sings in her strongest voice as she holds it steady "Blah blah blah blah."

I don't believe there is a right or wrong way to roleplay, and some of us are better at it then others. It is however not impossible to roleplay out an action, or something we do in everyday life. You just have to sit back and think ... If I was playing that instrument how would I do it, and simply discribe into words what you see in your head.

What I do, (I'm a bard) goes like this:

Loto takes out his mandolin.
"Would anybody care for a song? I know some good dwarven drinking songs."
Loto begins stumming the instrument
"Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na"

I also play the weakness of my character.

I think one key part is having people around you willing to RP that it is 'pleasing to the ears'.  Zorbels and Loto both show some excellent examples of ways to RP a performer.  Your imaginative descriptions of what it might sound like leads to the players listening being able to imagine it.  This, in turn, leads to them RP'ing their character's reactions to it and providing (hopefully positive) feedback to the performer.

After a long day of working in a mine, hunting, slaving over a hot furnace, or tending a shop, what could be better than a mug of your favorite beverage, some friends, and some live music?  It's not like our characters are going to sit down in front of the TV after work.

well sure, but the entire point of music in its existance is to stimulate an audible sensation. So simply to describe music even if it is roleplaying and even with an imagination is the equivalent of well... describing music. So I see the purpose of it in a roleplaying enviornment, as if it is part of a story, but to actually try to sit there and imagine it as if it were music is somewhat absurd in my opinion. Im sure many of you would disagree, but to each his own right?

Since this is a role playing event you are describing, then it is no more perposterous for you in-game character to "listen" to music being described in written form then it is to sing the song. It requires imagination, which as the heart of all role-playing, be it pnp or Planeshift. I love to rp, but haven't done it much in game yet because I am so focused on improving my character right now. In a way thats rp to, because ic I am very focused, ambitious and driven to single objective. As Zan says though... if you can't fine people who want to RP, bring the RP to them. This community, with all its flaws, is still MUCH fore RP oriented then other games.
