One day I wanna grow up to be a gm. *Zorbels blinks with an innocent look*

Very good point Suno.

I think most people resort to saying roleplay because most don't and so now most of us just assume. They come in game, hack and slash and do quests. When that is all done then they complain of boredom not realising that they never gave roleplay a chance. Plus it would be nice if half of these people who claim they are bored to start setting up roleplays and events. You don't need Gm's to do it. I can tell you this because I have done it and I am not a Gm. I also had no help from them. I know this much.... if you are having a good roleplay, you won't be bored. You will look at your watch and think "Holy crap where did the time go?"

I haven't read most of these posts but I used to play PS, though I haven't returned since then and instead contribute in my own little ways ;) I'm sure you've seen the Kran Alastone Alabast screaming out his loyal duties to what's good and all that crap, Alabast used to give away all his stuff to the poor and needy(newbies) and he felt very happy for his call.
Alastone actually spoke to Zorbels once, using his most loved poems. unluckily Zorbels hand was already taken by a mighty a potentially dangerous man so the Kran backed off :P

Zorbels, of course it's possible so set an event up without being a GM, but GM's do have some very handy tools at their exposal.  ;)

I feel the big problem is I see alot of RP but only with the mosy popular members, I rarley ever see a popular member actaully getting a newcomer involved. I have played this game 7 months and I have not been in that many RP events. I get bored alot, I am bored right now, but I fixed that by making my own tournement. I also anounce every once in a while about it. I am trying to get as many involved as possible to make this game more fun. But its true though when I do read about RPs its only about the big charecters in this game. You wanna have more fun then try getting others involved is what I say. Don't create an RP event and just list it on the fourms, actaully go around and ask some people if they would like to perticepate, of course in /tells and with brackets. But trust me you will get alot more people RPing if you all would just do this.

You see this statement I have a problem with and have both read it in game and on the forums from many different players. (Not you personally Lilie .. just so that we are clear :) ) Why is it up to the big players to involve the new comers? Why can they not get active themselves? Though it is nice to have a big name guide you around and show you the ropes, sometimes the big names just want to have fun roleplaying and not catering to newbies. You don't need an invitation to join into a roleplay, unless requested not to as it may be a private roleplay. I was a newbie once. I didn't get to where I am because I sat around waiting for people to include me in their roleplays. I toured the guilds forums and sent greetings to them. I tried to watch the forums for updates as to when a roleplay was going on. I net worked with the big names in the game to get involved with their roleplays. I wrote a story so that people could read up on who I was. Most of all when a big roleplay was going on I included myself and offered my help, or my sword or my two trias .... I never relied on anyone to include me but me. Basically communication, getting to know people and being an interesting character yourself will help you to join in with roleplays that are going on around you.

Also I have seen alot of the big names get newcomers invovled. It isn't easy to take on a new comer unless they are a quick learner. All the OOC comments and questions tend to ruin the mood and off set the roleplay. I think it is best for new comers to get used to the world (game) and also watch the experienced players to see how they are roleplaying. It might give that new comer an idea of how they want to present their character. I would also like to add that a character isn't born over night. It takes time to create a personality.

@ThomPhornix: lol .... so true. You can definitely have more options with the aid of a gm.
@Belark: I remember that .... it was a very nice poem.

Interesting comments on both sides.

Fighting- got bored after two minutes and started teasing the Death Guardian 'till he ate me. Mining- perish the thought. I have other plans for that. Quests- never got past "Do you have a quest." NPCs irritate the hell out of me. RPing- I checked my logs, and started RPing nine minutes after joining, which started a grand story that lasted over six months and involved several of my characters that I created along the way. Truthfully, I only get bored if I can not find people. I involve anyone that will speak up, or I can get my hands on. I even forced some powerlevelers to RP last week while they pummeled that poor rogue. The fun for me is making the world come alive, and see how your characters will react to it. Others find pummeling things the funnest. *shrugs*

Different folks are going to find differing things boring. That is the way of it.

So far, the most fun I have had is spitting at everyone within distance with Krook and trying to get folks to -not- like him, and as Aeshion, the sweetest Diabolia you will ever meet, and the mutest. Folks have to work hard to understand her, but I have never had anyone complain yet, and she offten becomes the center of attention. :)

And that concludes this session of 'Random thoughts from the Moon'.

Well I've tried to setup a few events, but most of them were ignored. For example my birthday party event, or the mitaki memory-loss event. I mean the birthday was especially disappointing because someone was in the tavern saying "who's birthday is it again?" which made me feel like none of my friends were there, but just people there for the heck of it. There was barely any roleplay or anything, just a few people talking about something else and a Klyros running in circles around the room. GM events are payed attention to closer, and at least then I could get something going.

EDIT: About the popular players comment, I actually agree. It seems people who are ingame a lot (coughzorbelscough) get more attention when speaking, or are being based on a bigger spot in the RP. I mean, my character Xidus in the shadow in the hills RP was mostly ignored by the other side. No one knew who I was, but I had played a big part in the RP. No one payed attention to me because I hadn't been ingame a while. Same thing with events. Monk was ingame more than me, and when he made that event he had a lot of friends at his disposal to help him do it, OOC and IC. Me however, I barely know who my friends are, since they're mostly IC. Each of my characters has a personality of their own, but I pretty much have no friends OOC (All I can remember is Narita, Setill, Farren, and Aradia). Since Monk has all these friends, his RP can be supported and a crowd gathered up by a long boring post on the forums.

I've been around a lot, and with many different characters. After experiencing PS roleplay I've liked to roleplay in other games as well. It's a great game, but barely anyone knows me anymore. It seems like it's this way just because I don't go ingame much. If I made a character named Suno, maybe people would actually recognize me, I don't know. But you're right, it seems like more "popular" or 8-hour-a-day game-players get more respect when it comes to events or just simple chat.

My current way out of boredom:

Get new challenges!

Start a new alternative character. Learn how hard it is now to develop him, compared to the days when many bugs could be used (like looting weapons worth a week's loot today). Join a guild that has quests for members who want to be promoted. Make a character with a complicated life situation. Join groups of roleplaying people (and before: find them), or make your own great plot and invite other players.

Do you need more ideas?

It seems people who are ingame a lot (coughzorbelscough) get more attention when speaking, or are being based on a bigger spot in the RP.

Really unnecessary to single me out, especially when your information is very clearly wrong .....

I actually am not in game much anymore. I spend maybe about two three hours, each day for two days out of the week maybe three. Sometimes a little more when I have time and sometimes a little less.

I would be careful how you word things as you seem to be sounding a tad jealous (call me crazy but that is how I read your post, and if I am wrong I apologise ahead of time but I do and will speak my mind if I feel the need to. In this case I feel the need). The shadows roleplay I had a sub story. It was my own babe that I dreamed up. It was on the spot and I am sure it took Proglin by surprised and I didn't know monk at all. I finally got introduced to him through this roleplay. I was the main character in that story I created but never once did I not invite people in. I had never meet pash before ... yet there he took a huge role in curing me. I also never want the spotlight all to myself. I like to share it. There are many players that I find who like to hog the spotlight at times(cough_any_cough_of_cough_Suno_characters_cough) and maybe that is why their stories might not be as successful. In the RP superthread developing in PS now!, I noticed you made more OOC comments then you did taking the time to apply your stories to the thread. I have seen your story writing and have read many of them. What I don't understand ... is why you wouldn't want to have those roleplays/stories told and on the forums after they took place in game. I wonder how much of a role you really did play in that story line, as I never heard of or knew you were roleplaying in it. So tell me is it my fault because I didn't run around and find out what was going on with you and your roleplay? Or was it you who didn't make the public aware by participating in the thread like the rest of us. This was the point of my post before .... it isn't the big names responsible for you to be well known and well informed, it is you. You get treated with respect towards your character by earning it.

Suno you were also in part of my shadows sub story roleplay. You hide outside my bedroom door ... listening in on the roleplay as everyone thought I was dieing. I invited you into the room (trying to include you) and all you did was go off about yourself and your god Vodul and then took off. You didn't take advantage of the situation or try to get involved. A good example of who did is the character Esseda. She traveled to the tavern as soon as she heard the news (informing herself). She offered her help and services (establishing a place in the roleplay). She also tried to figure out what was going on and tried to come up with a solution (helped the story line along). Notice that by the end of the shadows story she was one of the big names in the roleplay. That was because she earned it and took the time to involve herself. (and as far as I know she doesn't play for crazy amounts of hours either.)

For all the reasons I stated above in my last post ... I feel is why I am heard and noticed (Not because I am so called "popular" or spend huge amounts of time in game). I give that back, I hear and notice other people. I support their characters in my stories as they support mine in theirs. I am truly interested in their characters and what goes on in Ylaikum and in their stories. Over all I earned what Zorbels has for a reputation.

Zorbels, you speak my mind. I, too, read Suno's post as jealousy. I know similar reactions on Rilar's "popularity" (i hate that word), but in (PlaneShift-) RP, as I always emphasize, everyone is ones own dungeon master and responsible for the own fun, but also that everyone participating has just as much fun.
Fun however is a wide field. A good RPer is able to make others laugh in one minute, cry in the other, build up a horrible scaring scenery and noone knowing what could happen in the next second, raise other peoples curiousity in order to make them _ask_, directing the attention on specific things.
However, in an RP session theres always one or the other person trying to demonstrate skills, to be in the spotlight. As good RPer you need to give them this opportunity, take a step back, give up the spotlight for a minute. This gesture shows more generousity than anything and is most appreciated. You will gain real respect as RPer only by such gestures.

On the "only as GM you can do good events" I have to respond as GM: not true.
Everything a GM can do can be improvised in RP. It only takes phantasy and effort to develop a workaround. As Rilar, I ran a number of "events" without GM help at all, drawing just as much attention than "official" events. However, it is true that you'll need help to run good events. But there my advise is to get over the jealousy and ask exactly those "popular" persons you ranted about. They probably will be able to help you, if not with ideas, then with their "popularity" (asking more people to help in).

About the boredom:
PS can be the most boring place on earth.. *pokes Ralas with the memory of doing nonsense in the "corner of fools"* and it can be the most challenging, interesting, even exhausting place on earth. I myself needed to take brakes from RP as it become simply too much for me to bare.

As already in another thread said: try to get involved with other peoples RP; if you know someone who is known as good RPer, work out a plotidea and present it to him/her, realise it with help. Take on help, but don't expect it.

@ Suno:

That's exactly what I do and I'm sure you know that. So many different characters, and each one of them I'm just bored with. No matter what I try to do, I think the main reason I'm bored with the game is because of lag, anyway. It's just impossible to play. =/

EDIT: I'm too lazy to quote, but about the jealousy thing: You may be right, but the main point I'm trying to make is that some names are more well known than others. Maybe it's because you participate in more RP's? I don't know, but I'd like an RP that I make, or an RP that I participate in to at least know who I am, instead of mixing me into a heap of new players joining to see what an event's like. That's pretty much what happened in the shadow in the hills event. And actually, Zorbels, a lot of those things did happen. Such as Mitaki's entire story (except for the history) for example. And what I had Xidus feel as the RP progressed. The first two stories, if not just the first, will be something that has not happened ingame, and may just be history that can't be acted out due to it being in the past, or the character's childhood. I can't have them grow up that fast. But the main point is, these things do happen ingame, and anyone who pays attention to my actions ingame would know that.
